Position Purpose
As a Pharmacy Technician you will work in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care under the direction of a licensed clinical professional in a clinic or practice environment. A Pharmacy Technician usually spends the day on their feet finding medications, counting, calculating, packaging, and labeling prescriptions.
What you will do:
- Physicians orders are evaluated accurately for input into the pharmacy computer system
for all disease states and patient age groups. - Incompatibility data, drug interaction data, and drug allergy information is thoroughly reviewed for each order processed.
- Adverse drug reactions reported are accurate and thorough.
- Orders input is timely and consistent with workload demands.
- All medications and intravenous solutions dispensed are checked for accuracy and completeness.
- All dispensed pharmaceuticals are accurately weighed, measured, admixed, and labeled properly.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have National Pharmacy Technician Certification or in Lieu of this Certification a Licensed Pharmacist Intern is required.
- Must be registered with the State of FL as a Pharmacy Technician
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years additional education and/or experience.

Our Specialty Pharmacy Technicians support Banner Family Pharmacy - Specialty Care in downtown Phoenix, AZ. Our specialty care department is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients and their caregivers by assisting with financial assistance and prior authorizations. As a Specialty Pharmacy Technician, you will have the opportunity to work in an outpatient Retail Specialty Pharmacy, handling all aspects of Pharmacy practice, including patient-facing retail duties, with an emphasis on Specialty medications and Disease states. These duties might include, but are not limited to, data entry, filling prescriptions, insurance billing, and point of sale operation. Previous experience in specialty pharmacy is preferred.
We are looking for a Specialty Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Banner Medical Institute Pharmacy located at 1441 N 12th Street in Phoenix, AZ! This is a full time position, 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday on Day Shift, hours of 8:30AM - 5PM. The Pharmacy is closed on weekends and federal holidays.

Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for the management of the Banner formulary, development of standardized system wide clinical pharmacy services, and management of adverse drug event preventions. Clinical Pharmacy Services provides collaborative drug therapy management and educational interventions in patient care to optimize medication therapy, improve outcomes, promote wellness, and disease prevention. As a division, Banner Pharmacy services provides excellent patient care across our entire continuum through convenient access, improved medication outcomes and innovative pharmacy practices.POSITION SUMMARY
This position will assist the specialty pharmacist with preparation, compounding and dispensing of medications, non-clinical specialty assessments, order processing, and delivery setup for patients receiving prescription services from the Specialty Pharmacy. Assisting the specialty pharmacists with claims processing, inventory management, and all necessary reporting requirements to maintain URAC Specialty Pharmacy Accreditations and access to a network of limited distribution drugs.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1.Enroll selected patients in specialty pharmacy services. Communicate with patient and utilize electronic medical record to gather all relevant medical, demographic, and insurance information and input patient into Specialty Pharmacy software platform.
2.Work in a call center environment and communicate effectively with patients over the phone to overcome financial barriers to treatment. Communicate complex billing issues to patients in a manner easily understood.
3.Provide adherence management and adherence improvement services to patients of the Specialty Pharmacy.
4. Assist, provide, and maintain records for accreditation, licensure, manufacturer limited distribution agreements, payer contracts, and REMS programs as required.
5. Assist with expanding scope and continuous quality improvement initiatives across specialty pharmacy services.
6. Work collaboratively with specialty pharmacists and Fulfillment Center team to ensure an excellent patient experience.
7. Prepare, dispense, and compound appropriate amount of medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, and accurately deliver medication to the patient.
8. Follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and perform other work assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice. Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Minimum of one year of pharmacy technician experience required. Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required. Strong customer service focus, superior problem-solving abilities required. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator required.
BSS Registry Team members and Travelers are not eligible to drive on behalf of Banner and are not required to possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible for coverage under the company’s auto insurance policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred. Proficiency and experience with third party claims adjudication and claims rejection reconciliation preferred. Proficiency and experience with non-sterile, sterile and hazardous drug compounding preferred. Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient - Part-time
Responsible for medication management for the pharmacy, nursing units and operating rooms including but not limited to ordering, receiving, sorting, distributing medications. Troubleshoot equipment issues and provide excellent customer service and patient care in accordance with assigned duties. Create and utilize medication usage reports to analyze data for effective inventory control. Manage incoming telephone calls from inpatient units, and triage calls appropriately utilizing excellent customer service skills. Receive orders, select proper drug, and prepare dosage form and strength. Practice sterile compounding for immediate usage as well as non-sterile compounding of oral liquids and topicals. Perform electronic medication history inquiries and patient/family interviews for medication reconciliation. Calculate patient's IV infusion due times, reorder as needed and collaborate with providers, physicians, and pharmacists recommending medication concentrations.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 18 years of age required.
High school education or equivalent required.
Licensed Nebraska pharmacy intern or registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.
If registered as a Pharmacy Technician, certification within twelve months of registration date required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior pharmacy technician or hospital setting experience preferred.
Medical terminology and knowledge of top 200 medications prescribed preferred.Proficient knowledge of computers, automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell), calculators, electronic medical record (EPIC), various computerized and mechanical devices necessary for product preparation and dispensing (e.g., scales, strip packager, magnetic stirrer, etc.) preferred.
Experience with non-sterile compounding preferred.
Experience with phones, pagers, fax machines, handheld scanners, etc. preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required. ACPE I.V Certification with completion of 40-hour course in I.V. admixture preferred.
Pharmacy Sterile Product certification through accredited program is required if incumbent compounds sterile products.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Three (3) years of pharmacy experience required, preferably in a hospital pharmacy; employees hired on or prior to January 28th, 2022 are grandfathered in with 2 years of experience.
Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
Pharmacy Technician II requires proficiency and routine activity in a minimum of three (3) skills from List I or a minimum of one (1) skill from List II that's being performed as the primary role of the job

Principal Accountabilities
Selects prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list. Delivers medications to the patient care areas.
Stocks and monitors drug inventory levels, ensuring adequate and up-to-date supplies.
Inspects and maintains emergency medication trays.
Packages and labels unit dose oral liquids/tablets, and maintains pre-pack records.
Responds to oral requests for medications from nursing personnel and other departments.
Posts and codes patient pharmaceutical charges and credits into automated system, and returns credited medication to inventory. Reviews patient billing records for accuracy.
Prepares intravenous antimicrobials, large volume parenterals, adult and neonatal TPN solutions, epidurals and intravenous antineoplastics.
Documents Quality Improvement activities for the I.V. Room, e.g. hood cleaning, refrigeration temperature log, aseptic technique, etc.
Follows processes to ensure all medications are compliant to technology safety checks.
Prepares sterile products in an accurate and aseptic manner when appropriate.
Attends to customers as a liaison and gathers a medication history if applicable.
Properly manage pharmaceutical waste.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient Description:
Responsible for medication management for the pharmacy, nursing units and operating rooms including but not limited to ordering, receiving, sorting, distributing medications. Troubleshoot equipment issues and provide excellent customer service and patient care in accordance with assigned duties. Create and utilize medication usage reports to analyze data for effective inventory control. Manage incoming telephone calls from inpatient units, and triage calls appropriately utilizing excellent customer service skills. Receive orders, select proper drug, and prepare dosage form and strength. Practice sterile compounding for immediate usage as well as non-sterile compounding of oral liquids and topicals. Perform electronic medication history inquiries and patient/family interviews for medication reconciliation. Calculate patient's IV infusion due times, reorder as needed and collaborate with providers, physicians, and pharmacists recommending medication concentrations.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 18 years of age required.
High school education or equivalent required.
Licensed Nebraska pharmacy intern or registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.
If registered as a Pharmacy Technician, certification within twelve months of registration date required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior pharmacy technician or hospital setting experience preferred.

This position is responsible for billing and reconciliation of patient charges for medications and IV solutions for inpatients and outpatients. This includes meeting established deadlines for completion of all phases of billing and reconciliation. Reviews patient charts to identify and correct billing issues associated with high cost single charges or high cost total patient charges. Uses the company’s Charge Description Master (CDM) to review billings and charges associated with medications for internal billing auditors. Routinely interacts with a variety of hospital departments. Serves as clerical and administrative resource for the department with duties that may include reception, scheduling, filing, and coordination of department activities.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Reviews patient records, dedicated reports, and physician/provider notes to obtain information about medication usage. Uses a standard listing of charge codes and/or an automated system to validate medication charges. Documents according to standards set by the department and regulatory agencies.
2. Serves as a resource to hospital personnel and pharmacy staff in resolving billing questions related to medications. Acts as a resource in regard to appropriate billable units for medications for pharmacy personnel or internal auditors. Uses prior experience, diversified procedures and general instructions and procedures to solve a variety of problems.
3. Monitors and evaluates system reports to prevent erroneous billing practices. Audits daily error reports in the medication billing system and makes corrections when issues are identified. Matches, corrects, and codes charges that do not transmit to the billing system. Identifies and resolves problems with the medication billing system, as well as assists in the development and implementation of programs to improve and enhance service quality.
4. Verifies and inputs patient charges into the applicable billing systems. Processes charges for non-formulary medications, EMS replenishment, specialty area charges that are not already automated, and patient assistance billing. This may involve compiling data from multiple sources into meaningful information and then transferring that into the appropriate systems.
5. Analyzes financial reports generated by the technology systems for the pharmacy department. Presents reports to management and assists with the resolution of issues identified.
6. Provides clerical and administrative support to department leadership and staff as requested. This may include recording and distributing meeting minutes, project involvement, scheduling meetings and interviews, greeting and screening department visitors, answering phone calls, and other similar duties as needed.
7. Assumes the duties of the Acute Pharmacy Technician when needed and as appropriate. These duties may include, but not be limited to preparing, charging and crediting medications, restocking automated dispensing technology and compounding specialty medications, and intravenous medications to include hazardous medications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience in working with automated technology systems in related to pharmacy distribution. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Automated dispensing systems. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
