This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the Pharmacy Department including drug distribution processes, automated dispensing systems, IV systems and processes, quality improvement, performance improvement, staffing and scheduling, technology solutions, human resource development, training, billing and overall management of the department.Responsibilities also include the enforcement of performance standards, developing efficient staffing patterns, participating in interviewing candidates for open positions, training new employees, conducting annual performance appraisals and approving vacation time, personal time, etc.
This position assumes a leadership role in formulating policy and instituting practice models that promote medication safety and pharmaceutical care in all aspects of the medication management process.
Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Pharmacy with all aspects of medication management and clinical services, distributive functions, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements (JCAHO, DPH, FDA, etc.).
Major Responsibilities:
Job duties as a Manager:
- As a member of a Director’s management team, this position is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of strategies and goals for the division.
- Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination in managing the daily operations of departments within the incumbent’s area responsibility.
- Develops, recommends, monitors and manages operating budgets to optimize financial performance.
- Develops and utilizes performance metrics to continually improve quality and operating efficiency.
- Ensures adequate skills training and development among staff. Provides and encourages effective coaching.
Clinical Leadership Responsibilities:
- Conceptualizes, designs, demonstrates, documents in formulating policy and instituting practice models that promote medication safety in all aspects of the medication management process.
- Provides leadership and direction to the pharmacist staff in such a way that all professional activities performed are consistent with hospital, and departmental mission, objectives, and policies.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates treatment guidelines that address cost-effective and appropriate drug therapy.
- Coordinates the development of criteria for safe and effective medication use as well as monitor the compliance with established criteria and other quality improvement programs such as the Medication Use Committee of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P & T).
- Implements clinical trending reports and other quality assurance activities as indicated to ensure appropriate and safe drug utilization; Organizes, design, and conduct drug utilization evaluations.

Required:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree.
- Pharmacist Massachusetts licensure.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in business administration or other management degree.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Strong understanding of systems, technology and IV room processes.
- Strong understanding of state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Excellent customer service and communications skills with the ability to effectively interact and problem solve with managers of other departments.
- Substantial knowledge in project management, performance improvement, risk.
- Management principles, patient safety and planning.
- In depth knowledge of pharmacy distribution systems, automated dispensing, CPOE, I.V. compounders, packagers, bar code applications, supply chain solutions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially related to health care colleagues.
- Skilled at building relationships.
- Highly energetic, motivated, and resourceful with an extremely positive attitude.
- Must have a passion for continually improving processes.
- Proficient with office systems and computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- Two to five years of experience in hospital pharmacy in a supervisory/management role.

Job Duties
- Evaluates all physician orders based on a clinical assessment of the patient which includes but is not limited to allergies, age, renal function, concomitant drug therapy, lab values, approved dosing guidelines, best practice protocols, diagnosis, and physical clinical status.
- Assures the safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of medications including sterile products and investigational drugs measured by QA, medication occurrences, competency assessment and other documentation.
- Manages drug therapy to optimize patient outcomes measured by intervention documentation, ADR assessment, chart reviews, target drug reviews, patient education, and the provision of drug information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge, licensures and certifications through continuing education.
- Manages the operations of the pharmacy in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The Clinical Support Pharmacy Technician assists with all phases of pharmacy services and performs a variety of clinical functions and dispensing tasks in support of the daily workflow of the ULH Specialty Pharmacy. This position supports the Specialty Pharmacy team with implementation and administration of clinical programs, including the management of specialty pharmacy products and program reporting. The Clinical Support Pharmacy Technician will also function as a member of the ACB Outpatient Retail Pharmacy team as the Specialty Pharmacy liaison.
Essential Functions:
CLINICAL
Assists pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to include (but not limited to):
- Conduct medication adherence and refill calls to patients
- Communicate with provider offices and in-network pharmacies regarding patient care and various clinical specialty pharmacy initiatives
- Screen phone calls/orders and alert the pharmacist to patient-specific needs
- Gather clinical information on patients including labs, immunizations, upcoming appointment schedule, etc. as required by the provider’s protocol
- Routinely records medication histories on all patients for completeness and accuracy
- Provide accurate and pertinent clinical documentation in the appropriate pharmacy IT application system

SUMMARY: Reports to Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations. Under the supervision of a pharmacist and direction of a technician supervisor or technician specialist, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will undergo comprehensive training to perform a variety of technical and supportive tasks. The trainee functions as a member of the Pharmacy Team to assist pharmacists in formulating, preparing, and delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures, and federal and state regulations. Day shift.
Responsibilities include sterile compounding for the Inpatient Central Pharmacy at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
Sterile compounding experience is not required. Training is provided.
(8) hour shifts and (10) hour shifts available.
8-hour shifts are Monday - Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm. Occasional need to work 9:30am - 6:00pm (approximately 3-4 days per month).
10-hour shifts are Monday - Friday 5:00am – 3:30pm and 6:00am – 4:30pm. Occasional need to work 7:30am - 6:00pm.
Every 3rd weekend rotation.
