Supports and participates in the overall operation of the pharmacy technicians, including staffing and work assignments of the technicians. Serves as the liaison between the department and staff, information systems, physicians, patients, family, and other site staff. Performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Exercises sound judgment and has developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety. May also be responsible for performing specific tasks and/or orient other staff to the department.Job Description:
EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program
- OR Met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
CERIFICATION & LICENSURE:

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
- 4 years recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications.
- Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission, Title XXII, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the formulation and preparation of medications by:Reviewing practitioner medication orders and preparing medications for review and dispensing by a pharmacist.Performing general operations of electronic drug dispensing system (EDDS; e.g. Omnicell,) used in the inventory control and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related supplies, including maintaining, assigning, refilling and removing medication, including controlled substances, and generating and interpreting reports to perform above.Maintaining operating room medication inventory, including controlled substances.Preparing intravenous admixtures including chemotherapy, critical care infusions, and pediatric infusions utilizing aseptic techniques in a controlled environment according to computer-generated and/or pharmacist approved formulation record, including proper manipulation, labeling and expiration dating. Working in United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) 797 clean room environment and in accordance with procedures of the same.Preparing and repackaging non-sterile pharmaceutical products according to computer-generated and/or pharmacist approved formulation record, including proper technique, labeling, and expiration dating. Working in accordance with USP 795 procedures. Performs controlled substance discrepancy resolution in conjunction with other licensed health care professionals. Participates in controlled substances inventory management in the Pharmacy and the hospital. Delivers medications to clinic, procedural, treatment, operating room, and patient care areasi.Retrieves medication orders. Repackages and labels medications for distribution in accordance with pharmacist approved Packaging and Labeling Records. Prepares various emergency medication kits for pharmacist review and distribution to patient care areas. Performs routine procurement and inventory management of medications including ordering and receipt of chemotherapy and other pharmaceutical supplies. Completes necessary paperwork for controlled substance procurement and verifies receipt of such. Processes medication requisitions for departments and laboratories for pharmacist verification. Reconciles patient and department medication charges. Performs routine preventive maintenance to all equipment according to standards for same. Assists in maintaining related Pharmacy records and files, performing equipment calibration and maintenance. Assists in maintaining the Pharmacy and medication supply areas in a neat and orderly fashion ensuring medications are stored under proper conditions for light, temperature, sanitation, and segregation. Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities and medication safety initiatives of the Pharmacy and the hospital. Utilizes approved process for reporting actual, prevented and near miss medication errors. Answers the telephone and triages as appropriate. Interacts with internal and external customers in accordance with hospital Customer Service Standards. Assists in orientation and training of other pharmacy technicians and interns. POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the pharmacist in preparing medications for dispensing. Does not dispense any medication that isn’t double checked by a registered pharmacist. Is directly responsible for running the pharmacy robot and maintaining stock in automated dispensing cabinets. Draws up doses in the IV class 10,000 clean room utilizing a class 100 laminar flow hood and aseptic technique. Performs pharmacy stock QA inspections on all nursing units. Makes delivery/pickup rounds to unit and departments and performs computer order entry functions. Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisors/pharmacists. Provides customer service by processing paper, electronic and phone requests for medications.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
High School diploma required. Some previous pharmacy related or hospital clinical background preferred. Preference will be given to nationally certified pharmacy technicians.

This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Becomes proficient in preparing compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and chemotherapeutic agents within compliance with USP regulations. Effectively uses pharmacy computer systems to investigate and respond to missing medication requests. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. May educate and train peer Pharmacy Technicians, Technician Externs, Technician Trainees, and volunteers.Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.
2. Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Investigates discrepancies and troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology.

Understands and adheres to all applicable USP compounding guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently performs calibrations of equipment and accurately measures components for compounding. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications compounded and repackaged per policy.

Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. 8. Becomes proficient in performing compounding and labeling of intravenous non-hazardous compounds using proper sterile and aseptic technique as appropriate to the site of care. Understands the different product lines in sterile populations (adult, pediatric, and neonate). Completes all required environmental cleaning procedures. Documents all required tasks and other information per policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems. This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Becomes proficient in preparing compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and chemotherapeutic agents within compliance with USP regulations. 2. Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Investigates discrepancies and troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. We are recruiting a pharmacist to serve as shared overnight coverage for the emergency department and hospital wide emergency response, in addition to operations and clinical workflows within the inpatient pharmacy. Position Purpose:
The Patient Care Pharmacist, within the scope of the Ohio Pharmacist Practice Act, will provide timely, accurate, cost effective, and patient-centric pharmaceutical care.
What You Will Do:
Coordinates the preparation, distribution, and dispensing of medication as appropriate in compliance with state and federal regulations and laws, accreditation standards, and departmental policies and procedures; directs and assists pharmacy support staff.
Maintains personal compliance and assists in maintenance of departmental compliance with continuous regulatory readiness. Also maintains records related to the transactions of the pharmacy, to achieve adequate control and accountability for all drugs, including controlled substances.
Assists in the management of pharmacy inventory by providing information to pharmacy purchasing, removing expired contaminated or deteriorated stock when detected, helping maintain perpetual inventories, and processing non-formulary requests.
Interprets, evaluates and verifies all medication orders.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team in order to assure optimal and cost effective drug therapy. This includes adjusting drug dosing and schedules, recommending the most efficacious therapy, practicing stewardship in antibiotics, performing drug consults and monitoring, and detecting possible adverse drug reactions, food/drug interactions, drug/drug interactions, and allergic cross reactivity.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy required
Licensure / Certification: Current license to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Ohio.
Experience: PGY1 residency or three years of institutional pharmacy experience in an advanced clinical setting is preferred
Effective Communication Skills
Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize and manage pharmaceutical care, including delegating tasks to and providing direction to other members of the pharmacy team
