Vanderbilt Health is seeking an experienced and collaborative Clinical Pharmacy Manager to provide leadership for pharmacists supporting critical care and emergency medicine. This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy leader who is passionate about advancing medication safety, developing high-performing teams, and influencing patient care.
In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for a team of Clinical Pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacist Specialists, and Clinical Team Leads. You will play a critical role in supporting the people and processes that ensure exceptional patient outcomes across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support a team of 10-15 clinical pharmacy professionals, including Clinical Pharmacists, Clinical Team Leads, and Clinical Pharmacist Specialists.
- Drive initiatives related to medication safety, quality improvement, formulary management, and clinical best practices.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, professional development, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other interdisciplinary partners to optimize medication use and patient outcomes.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management to direct reports.
- Support clinical pharmacy services across critical care and emergency medicine providing 24/7 care.
- Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, patient care delivery, and operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to the growth and expansion of clinical pharmacy services as the institution continues to expand its critical care capacity.
What We're Looking For
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
- PGY2 residency training in Critical Care preferred.
- Candidates with a PGY1 residency and critical care or emergency medicine practice experience coupled with leadership experience will also be considered.
- 2 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including leadership responsibilities is required. 3-5 years is preferred.
- Previous experience managing direct reports.
- Experience as a Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Team Lead, Residency Program Director, or similar leadership role is highly valued.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, mentoring clinicians, and driving practice improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Obtains authorization numbers from insurance companies, reviews all prior authorization requests for medical necessity, and determines appropriate benefit coverage for all general and oncology infusion clinics supported by the Pharmacy Business office.Major Responsibilities:
- Completes prior authorization review for all general and oncology infusions; researching medical necessity in reference to patient diagnosis and treatment plan utilizing appropriate compendiums and insurer policies.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.
2. Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Investigates discrepancies and troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology.

Interacts primarily with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal customers, patients and physicians.

5. Compounds non-sterile medication products. Understands and appropriately follows all product worksheets/recipes for documentation and check processes. Understands and adheres to all applicable USP compounding guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently performs calibrations of equipment and accurately measures components for compounding. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications compounded and repackaged per policy.
6. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies, laws, and regulations. Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, and equipment maintenance activities as required.
7. Ensures the proper use of garbing and compounding techniques in accordance with policies and has knowledge of basic principles within USP <797> and USP<800>, laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding. Performs compounding and labeling of intravenous compounds and hazardous agents to include chemotherapy using proper sterile and aseptic technique as appropriate to the site of care. Understands the different product lines in sterile compounding (patient specific and non-patient specific batch) and the differences between the various populations (Adult, Pediatric, Neonate). Baptist Health is looking for a remote System Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (Pharmacist) to join our Central Pharmacy team!
- Collaborates with the System Manager of Antimicrobial Stewardship, Infectious Diseases physicians, ambulatory leadership, care management, infusion services, and other interdisciplinary stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain evidence-based OPAT/COpAT services throughout the health system.
- Assists with development and standardization of OPAT/COpAT workflows, clinical pathways, documentation standards, and monitoring processes across inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Facilitates safe transitions of care for patients discharged on antimicrobial therapy through coordination with inpatient teams, ambulatory infusion centers, home infusion agencies, dialysis centers, skilled nursing facilities, and home health providers.
- Reviews antimicrobial regimens, laboratory monitoring plans, vascular access considerations, culture data, and duration of therapy recommendations to ensure safe and effective outpatient antimicrobial management.
- Monitors patients receiving OPAT/COpAT for therapeutic effectiveness, adverse drug events, laboratory abnormalities, drug interactions, adherence concerns, and line-related complications.

- Collaborates with infectious diseases providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to promote evidence-based antimicrobial utilization across OPAT/COpAT populations.

Position Highlights
- This position is in an office setting and is responsible for taking incoming calls, data entry, processing orders, sending refill reminders, communicating with providers, and working with various computer systems.
- Strong attention to detail is essential for success in this role.
- Must have a TN Pharmacy Technician License within 90 days of hire.
- This position is located onsite.
- Hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.
- Retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.

Technical Capabilities
• Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Novice): Demonstrates working knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the department and work areas. Maintains current understanding of rules and regulations and facilitates processes that support the application of various rules and regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of process improvement, quality assurance and/or programs. Understands the principles upon which the rules and regulations are based. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement and supports compliance with a federal, state and local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures.
•Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully review, prepare, dispense and distribute prescribed medications. Where applicable, this includes being proficient in the general principles and techniques of asepsis utilized to compound sterile preparations (CSPs) to minimize the risk of contamination.
•Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Fundamental Awareness): Has demonstrated a basic understanding of computers or has successfully completed training for applications that are used to support medication use processes.
•Drug Inventory & Records Management (Novice): Possesses fundamental proficiency working with drug inventory and records management. Demonstrates ability to maintain appropriate inventory levels of medications. Able to collect, organize and/or maintain evaluations of pharmacy or patient related information.

Hours: Friday and Saturday Nights; 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM or 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
- IV admixture including drug calculations, sterile compounding, chemo and non-chemo admixing, and compliance with USP 797 standards.
- Hospital drug distribution, including accurately filling floor stock and Pyxis stock, fill lists and restocking.
- Delivering medications and IVs to the nursing units.
- Unit dose packaging of oral and IV medications.
- Work under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be a team player.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Florida.
- Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician, or willing to become certified within the first 90 days.
