Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Patient Registration Representative is responsible for Inpatient/ Outpatient registrations for the Health System. Obtains proper patient identification, demographics and financial information to adequately register and secure the patient encounter. Responsible for POS collections as required. Maintains a constant focus on providing excellent customer service to patients/ families and a professional image.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Monitors schedule daily for patients arriving at the department for the day if applicable.
- Responsible for admitting/registering scheduled and non-scheduled or emergent patients for the assigned department.
- Conducts bedside admission on patients who are direct admits to the unit as needed.
- Obtains identification to assure accuracy of demographic and insurance information. Enter information in computer system with correct spelling of patient name and diagnosis, date of birth, social security number, employer, guarantor and correct medical record number.
- Greets patient and/or relative. Interviews and obtains or rechecks pertinent information.
- As required, collects co-payments or deposits as appropriate for service being rendered.
- Responsible to balance cash drawer as part of the end of the day process.
- Explains facility policies and ensures patient and/or relative understands and signs the consent for treatment, and insurance forms at the appropriate time. Clear and accurate documentation should be entered on the appropriate forms and keyed into the computer system.
- Complies with Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance rules and regulations.
- Completes MSPQ as required for admission.
- Attends and participates in staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge.
- Responsible for the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in the safe following all requirements as described in the department policy as needed.
- Provide coverage as requested in all areas of Admitting following established guidelines.
- Knowledgeable of administrative policies, department procedures, third party coverage and required admission and insurance documents.
- Responsible for other duties or projects, which are assigned by Management. These may include special projects, telephone coverage, filing, scanning, copying and other duties as instructed.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
Histotechnologist are members of the laboratory team who prepare tissue specimens for evaluation by preparing glass stained slides of human tissue for microscopic examination. A Pathologist then uses these complex techniques to establish and confirm a patient diagnosis. The tasks performed by the Histotechnologist require patience, mechanical ability and a strong knowledge of the biological sciences. There are five intricate steps which include: 1) Grossing/Fixation, 2) Processing, 3) Embedding, 4)Sectioning and 5) Staining; each an integral part of the histotechnologists' job. Additional duties may include Immunohistochemistry and Digital Imaging.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Orient tissue samples during embedding process, performs microtomy, stains tissue samples, and performs manual and automated histochemical stains; may perform Immunohistochemical analysis and digital imaging.
- Maintains, operates, troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation.
- Has the ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, tissue processors, automatic stainers, cryostats and coverslippers.
- Disposes of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and other potentially hazardous materials, according to policy and strictly adheres to safety and infection control procedures.
- Has knowledge of specimen requirements for surgical pathology processing and analysis, and understands when to direct questions to the appropriate pathologist or supervisor.
- Must apply critical thinking skills and prioritize work appropriately
- Demonstrates technical competence with LIS, EMR, and PC.
- Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Participates in proficiency testing and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
- Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures.
- Participates in inspection readiness.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of all supplies.
- Accurately prepares, labels, and stores reagents, controls, and specimens for analysis.
- Completes continuing education and submits appropriate documentation where applicable. Participates in training new employees.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate and completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program OR
- Associates Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry and 1 full year of recent experience in histopathology as defined by ASCP to include fixation, embedding/microtomy, staining, and laboratory operations.
- Technical/Professional Training/ Degree in Histotechnology
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Biologic science, chemistry, physical science or medical technology
Required Licensure and Certification
- Histotechnologist (HTL) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) registration (or eligible with the requirement to pass the boards within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days OR
- Histotechnician (HT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) registration (or eligible with the requirement to pass the boards within 6 months of hire.

Physician - Neurological Spine SurgeonThe University of Kansas Health System Olathe Campus and the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center seek an academic spine surgeon to join their expanding team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive surgical care for patients with a broad range of spinal conditions. The Olathe campus offers dedicated spine services within a multidisciplinary environment, allowing neurosurgeons to collaborate closely with orthopedic spine surgeons, neurologists, pain management specialists, rehabilitation providers, radiologists and other specialists.
Job Duties Outlined:
- Actively participate in the teaching of Neurosurgery to clinical staff, medical students and residents including didactic lectures, shadowing experiences, inclusion on service activities, or involvement in research activities
- Dedicate 90% of time to active clinical practice in the Neurosurgery Department
- Serve on Neurosurgery departmental committees
- Other duties as assigned

Creates chart folders, performs chart requisition from Medical Records for past patients. When necessary, places needed insurance authorization forms in chart (i.e. Ortho Net, Children's Mercy). Initiates front office/therapist checklist in chart and identifies insurance information (visit restrictions, co-pay and treatment authorization information).
- Completes the Rehab Aide Checklist for the COP, DB1, GAR, SFC, and SMP clinics, performing all Joint Commission and departmental duties according to the schedule outlined on the checklist.
- Faxes patient reports to physician offices (using Medical Records Printing (MRP) in Cerner) and insurers (traditional fax) in a timely manner.
- Contacts Workman's Comp providers and/or insurance companies to secure approval for additional visits or procedures. Determines what is necessary for securing approval and/or authorization for continued therapy visits and if the physician's office needs to call the insurer for a new pre-certification. Completes the necessary steps outlined by the insurer to secure the visits or procedures requested by the therapist.

The Specimen Referral Technician is responsible for providing information to providers on molecular and genetic (somatic and germline) testing to include, but not limited to; what genetic tests are available and where the genetic testing is performed. Additionally, due to the specifications of the testing, the Specimen Referral Technician working in the clinical department is responsible for processing genetic kits which may include separation of RNA from blood samples. This position is responsible for logging and entering results for the neonatal state screen testing performed at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The Specimen Referral Technician working in surgical pathology is responsible for transcription of outside case data, managing and prioritizing orders, both electronic and paper, receiving samples in the Pathology IT system, managing orders and ultimately scanning results. This position must also retrieve pathology blocks, slides and reports and package for shipping upon request. The Specimen Referral Technician position requires in depth knowledge of billing compliance, specimen requirements for all referral lab tests, as well as specimen integrity requirements for transport. This position is responsible for ordering testing online for specialty labs that are not interfaced with our laboratory information system (LIS) and entering results or transcription for referral test results that are not interfaced with the LIS. - Retrieves specimens from the OR, when necessary. The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is an important member of the physician's care team and critical for creating a pleasant and seamless patient experience within an ambulatory clinic.
