Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is an important member of the physician's care team and critical for creating a pleasant and seamless patient experience within an ambulatory clinic. This work role is responsible for front desk operations including greeting and checking in customers and visitors, answering calls, copay collection, completing MyChart and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) appointment requests, processing external medical records and helping the physician care team prepare for their daily patient appointments. May assist with checking patients out and scheduling follow up activities as needed.
The hours for this PSR position are Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Pre-Visit SchedulingSchedule internal and external incoming department referrals.
- Schedules in person appointments, telehealth visits, surgeries, procedures and/or ancillary services using Epic Cadence decision trees.
- Maintains extensive knowledge of appointment types, locations, providers, and specialties.
- Works to achieve a coordinated patient itinerary sometimes consisting of multiple appointments.
- Responsible for registration of patient during the scheduling process, including entering demographics, insurance verification, completing the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ), scanning and document preparation, updating documentation and processing of referrals/order/appointment requests.
- Preauthorization of clinic specific visits and procedures as needed.
- Assist patient with MyChart activation and support, including how to complete check-in online prior to the appointment.
- During Visit Standard Check-InResponsible for high volume patient clinic check in/out and phone reception – following health system standards.
- Secures patient signatures for consent and financial forms.
- Follows and completes all standard registration documentation and scanning process in the Health System EMR
- Responsible for collecting all point of service collections due per the EMR generated patient estimate including copay, co-insurance, and deductibles.
- Assist patient with MyChart activation and support.
- Responsible for outpatient clinic direct rooming
- Responsible for supporting patient through self-check-in utilizing MyChart and the EMR
- Post-Visit (Check-out/Follow Up Scheduling)Schedule follow up internal and external diagnostic and therapeutic orders creating a patient itinerary based on provider orders.
- Assist patient with MyChart activation and support.
- Ensure proper front desk coverage until last patient is dismissed from the clinic.
- Standard ResponsibilitiesAttends and participates in department clinic daily huddles and process improvement initiatives.
- Understands patient experience performance expectations for ease of scheduling appointment, degree to which you were informed of delays, likelihood to recommend practice, courtesy of front desk and staff worked together for your care.
- Supports both front desk and scheduling (telephone and MyChart) workflows.
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with providers and the clinical care team.
- Has a working knowledge of patient related policies and procedures as well as an understanding of the University of Kansas Health System services and programs.
- Follows the Health System standard apparel policy.
- Effectively communicates Health System Policies to patients and patient advocates.
- Familiarity with insurance coverage types (HMO, PPO, VA, Medicare)
- Expected to provide coverage at alternate locations to help meet critical staffing level needs, as delegated by management.
- Supports and participates in patient experience initiatives including marking campaigns and event registration
- Responsible for daily maintenance of workspace and following environmental health cleaning guidelines according to Health System policy and procedures.
- Responsible for following personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines according to Health System policy and procedures.
- Expected to complete necessary training and successfully pas 30-60-90-day quality assessments.
- Remains in clinic until last patient is checked out and any follow-up visits are scheduled.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or GED.
- 1 or more years customer service or health care experience
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Preferred Education and Experience
- College coursework completed towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
- Clerical, registration and/or customer service experience within a health care setting.
Preferred Language Skills

Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Hematology and/or Oncology specialty manages health problems and coordinates health care in acute or specialty care settings. These APPs deliver patient care and medical services to individuals, families and groups by utilizing standards of care in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to assess health status, diagnose medical conditions, develop medical plan of care, implement treatments and evaluate patient responses in collaboration with collaborative/sponsoring physician as described in a Collaborative Practice Agreement.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Able to evaluate medical problems of clients in the assigned specialty practice setting and appropriately requests consultation of other specialties when indicated.
- Provides education to patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications pertinent to the patient’s condition.
- Creates diagnostically appropriate treatment plans
- Documents all medical evaluation, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations consistent with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards and evidenced-based standards of care. Maintains documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing.
- Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers and quality standards according to protocols and receives and implements constructive directives.
- May refer complex and high priority cases to collaborating physician with regards to complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems and re-evaluation of chronic conditions.
- Provides medical and emergency interventions appropriate to the client’s needs; prescribes and monitors medications appropriate to the diagnosis; orders and monitors the appropriateness of emergency interventions.
- Maintains collegiality with all members of the inter-disciplinary team.
- Utilizes appropriate chain-of-command and communicates with specialty practice Program Director, APP Director and Medical Director of any clinical issue and contributes to quality improvement or process improvement as necessary.

The Ambulatory Clinic RN Care Coordinator is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert who provides ethical, evidence-based, safe and compassionate nursing care. The Ambulatory Clinic RN Care Coordinator focuses on patient safety and the quality of nursing care by identifying and clarifying patient needs, performing clinic related patient care, conducting health education, promoting patient advocacy, coordinating healthcare services, and evaluating patient outcomes. The RN Care Coordinator will provide support to their assigned physicians by communicating with the patient/family/caregiver and relaying the information to the physician. They will provide support and nursing care services during the physician's clinic sessions and ensuring the patient/family/caregiver understands the plan of care. They will verify all orders placed during the clinic session have been completed and the physician has been notified of the results.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Responsible for management of patient flow, triage, and direct patient care.
- Liaison of communication between front desk staff, nursing staff, physicians, and clinic manager
- Manage the care of the patient population by developing expected patient outcomes, defining appropriate resource utilization, and working with the provider to set patient goals.
- Provide nursing support/coordination to the practice to optimize patient outcomes and to improve patient’s quality of life through clinical and educational programs and/or support services.
- Support patient self-management of disease.
- Coordinate continuity of patient care with patients and families following hospital admission, discharge, and ER visits.
- Manage high risk patient care, including management of patients with multiple co-morbidities or high risk for readmission to a hospital setting, including a registry.
- Develop relationships with patients and competently uses assessment skills to identify physical, psychosocial, financial, and environmental health care needs of the patient.
- Educate the patient and appropriate ancillary personnel about the health care needs, safety issues and benefits which include patient education.

- Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Records tests and examination results and then follows up with patient. Posts tests and examination results.
- Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

Physician - Head and Neck Surgical Oncology/Microvascular Reconstructive SurgeonThe Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a full-time fellowship-trained, board certified/board eligible Head and Neck Surgical Oncology/Microvascular Reconstructive Surgeon at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, to provide surgical and non-surgical management of patients with benign and malignant neoplasms of salivary origin, advanced cutaneous malignancies, head and neck mucosal neoplasms and thyroid/parathyroid disorders. This individual will join a clinically and academically productive Head and Neck Surgical Oncology division of four surgeons, two outpatient and one inpatient APP and five head and neck nurse navigators, all affiliated with The University of Kansas Cancer Center which is Comprehensive NCI-Designated facility. Practice sites will include The University of Kansas Health System, as well as our affiliated sites of the Kansas City VA, and University Health Medical Center, all in Kansas City. The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City is an academic and regional referral center. Patients come from all over the Midwest Region for advanced diagnosis and innovative treatments.
Preference will be given to those individuals who have strong clinical and surgical experience including transoral robotic surgery of the head and neck as well as microvascular reconstruction and an interest in research, educating residents, medical students and fellows and scholarly activities. There are a considerable number of clinical trials and funded translational research within the division, and the Department has the resources and infrastructure to support a candidate who currently holds or has the potential for securing competitive external funding.

Required Qualifications:
- MD, DO or equivalent degree
- Completion of ACGME-accredited residency training in Otolaryngology

- Makes rounds on patients and answer call lights immediately, using excellent customer service techniques. Promptly reports any unusual incidents and/or any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to the appropriate persons.
- Obtains and documents: vital signs, orthostatic vital signs, urine dip testing, and blood glucose monitoring, reporting all changes to appropriate RN. Accurately collects/labels all specimens, and transports to Lab, as indicated. May document valuables for patients being admitted.
- When phlebotomy training is completed, demonstrates working knowledge and skills for phlebotomy, including the accurate labeling of specimens. Assists in maintaining necessary supplies, blood tubes from Lab.
- Understands the First Net tracking board icons and their associated tasks are essential for efficient patient care/patient flow. Demonstrates accurate prioritization skills for: stat/now orders, answering/placing phone calls, recognizing/reporting critical lab values and other test results, recognizing emergent patient needs, etc. Understands management/follow-up is essential to be sure testing ordered reaches the patient.
- Demonstrates the ability to print/maintain hardcopies of inpatient orders. Maintains competency of order entry, computer downtime procedure, and future orders. Practices excellent telephone etiquette and skills when responding to all phone calls.

The Social Work Case Manager identifies, monitors, and reports opportunities for quality and performance improvement to the appropriate department. The Social Work Case Manager takes an active role in performance improvement activities as it relates to their area of assignment.

This Job Profile is for Unaccredited Fellows.
The selected trainee will join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Kansas Health System as a full time Fellow. The trainee will join a robust team of 19 residents, maternal-fetal medicine and gynecologic oncology fellows and over thirty faculty to provide evidence-based quality care. As a member of the Specialist Division, it is expected that the Academic Specialist fellow will learn core educational techniques, work with educational specialists in the department to provide didactic, case-based learning and simulation to the Ob/Gyn residents and medical students. The fellows will also participate in the Academic Excellence Development Program through faculty affairs. The fellow will continue to build upon the knowledge and skills obtained during residency. They will manage patients that acutely present to the emergency room as well as a wide range of gynecological problems. They will continue to develop more advanced technical skills. The fellow will continue to build leadership and teaching skills as a practicing attending on a service. Fellows develop competence in operative delivery, complicated vaginal repair including 3rd and 4th degree lacerations and technically difficult surgical procedures. They will develop clinical judgment and skills needed for independent practice. The fellow will serve as the practicing attending and be responsible for the direction and training of the residents and medical students. The fellow is 80% learner and 20% independent practitioner. Faculty will provide care on labor and delivery that would include supervision of residents and students as well as consultation to certified nurse midwives. The ambulatory practice includes care in outpatient private clinics. The fellowship provides a competitive benefits package. Appointment is full-time into a one-year fellowship.

Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Occupational Therapist works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. They perform an individualized evaluation, design goal-directed customized interventions to improve the person’s ability to perform daily activities, and periodically review the patient’s performance to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan. This position supports acute care hospital setting and inpatient rehabilitation unit.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Evaluates selected diagnoses accurately using basic techniques in acute care and rehabilitation.
- Asks for clarification of orders from physicians, and requests consult from other OTs as needed.
- Considers all aspects of the patient’s needs including the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural.
- Develops and implements treatment plans using appropriate problem solving skills, and clinical reasoning.
- Documents evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes in a clear and concise manner, consistent with department policies and KOTA/AOTA.
- Provides educational programs for the OT department, other disciplines, including orientation for nursing and medical students.
- May provide teaching for OT ED labs as requested, with assistance as needed.
- Supervises Level I students independently. Supervises Level II students after one year of clinical experience, with assistance from the Student Coordinator as needed.
- Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts (40 hours/biannually).
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Follows all departmental procedures.
- Demonstrates good rapport with patients and professionalism with other professionals, patients, and visitors.
- Provides supervision for COTA’s with patient evaluation information and treatment development and implementation, as well as supervision for HCA.

Patient diagnoses range anywhere from COPD exacerbations, pancreatitis, non-healing wounds, pulmonary emboli, etc. The top two patient diagnoses on the unit are heart failure exacerbations and sepsis.
***This full-time position is Monday-Friday, 3pm-11pm. NO WEEKENDS

- Assisting with scheduling of tests and treatments. Arranging referrals to a specialist and obtaining pre-authorizations when directed to by the provider.
