Job Purpose
- The Patient Care Technician under the direction of the professional staff, assists with patient care to provide support to the patient, nursing unit and professional staff.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required
- 1 year experience as a nursing assistant in a comparable healthcare facility Or
- Graduate from a certified nursing assistant program Or
- Certified Medical Assistant program Or
- Nursing student who documents completion of the first semester of a Nursing Program Or
- Documented military experience as a medic/corpsman Or
- Foreign Nursing graduate not currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the U.S Or
- EMT Certification/Paramedic License

Performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to manage patient registration and patient financial obligation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

2. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Obtains demographic/billing/insurance information from patient/family/legal guardian and enters into the registration/billing systems for service and claim processing and scans insurance cards & photo identification. Provides to the patient, information concerning insurance, payment of bills and hospital procedures.
2. May complete managed care responsibilities in regard to obtaining pre-certification and authorizations.
3. Prepares WVU Medicine standard consent form, notice of privacy practice and/or other necessary paperwork related to registration and presents to patient/family/legal guardian for signatures. Obtains electronic signature for consent to treat and patient financial obligations.
4. Collects deposits/co-payments/deductibles/patient liability payments when applicable, provides patient receipt and documents payment in the registration/billing systems.
5. Prepares armband for patient identification.
6. Balances daily receipts and cash drawer for patient payments as needed. Follows up on accounts as indicated by system flags (courtesy dismissal/comments/red stickers).
7. May initiate various screenings and obtains all pertinent information for coverage and completes appropriate paperwork.
8. Performs medical necessity checks and completes Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.
9. Schedules, reschedules, or cancels patients in accordance with hospital workflows.
10. Checks for order completeness and validate order against scheduled service.

Our 21‑bed Emergency Department provides fast‑paced, comprehensive emergency care for patients of all ages, treating a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions with an average daily volume of around 100 patients. Nurses maintain a 4:1 assignment, supported by nursing assistants at 10:1, with typical patient stays of 4–6 hours. We’re seeking nurses who can think quickly, work efficiently, and thrive in a highly collaborative, team‑focused environment. A strong sense of initiative, adaptability, and the ability to respond calmly under pressure are essential; experience is preferred, but motivated new graduates who want a challenge are welcome. Our ED is known for exceptional collaboration with providers, strong peer support, and a fun, energetic team culture—making it a great place to grow, learn, and build confidence in emergency care.
We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Technician I (ET I) supports basic, diagnostic and/or therapeutic endoscopic procedures at rural, community, large and trauma facilities. This entry-level role ensures safe and effective care during procedures such as Colonoscopy, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Tracheostomy/Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Placement, Enteroscopy, basic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT), Food Impaction Removal, Bravo Capsule Placement, and EndoFLIP. Interventions may include polypectomy, biopsy, dilation, cauterization, variceal banding, stent placement, overtube use, foreign body removal, and Hemospray application for GI bleeding.
The ET I may be required to take independent call and assist with urgent or emergent cases.
This role contributes to system-wide Surgical Services initiatives and actively participates in the Endoscopy Team Safety Plan.

The Assessment Clinician II evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment, seeks justification for admission, and coordinates level of care expectations with physicians, Assessment Referral Center, personnel, patient care units, and external agencies and develop relationships with community partners by consistently providing quality services. The Assessment Clinician II conducts insurance pre-certifications for individuals evaluated and may provide assessment services for various patient populations including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Essential Functions:
- Evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment and seeks justification for admission
- Conducts evaluations at local hospitals, UofL Peace Hospital and other community agencies and facilities

- Determines provisional diagnosis and discusses treatment recommendations with patient, family, and medical providers

1. Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair; report problems to the supervisor.
2. Cleans all assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment, following established procedures.
3. Removes trash from all assigned areas.
4. Replenishes paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations of assigned areas to assure adequate supply.
5. Makes beds, following established cleaning procedures in all patient discharge rooms and on-call rooms as assigned.
6. Maintains assigned equipment in clean, working condition, reporting problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
7. Moves equipment, furniture, boxes, wash walls, spot carpets, etc. as assigned.
8. Follows all safety and sanitation regulations.

1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures proper patient identification and maintains patient safety, privacy, confidentiality and follows guidelines under HIPAA.
• Obtains and records vital signs, pain screens, weights and heights accurately into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).Reports changes and/or abnormalities in vital signs; findings that are outside of defined parameters; and changes in patient’s conditions to the nursing/medical staff in a timely manner.
• Obtains specimens (urine, stool, sputum, etc.) and ensures accurate labeling in presence of patient.Instructs patients/family members in collecting specimens.
• Performs phlebotomy and EKG as applicable and is competent in the two patient identifier practice.
• May precept with specific training.
• Assists with disease center specific procedural needs as applicable.
• Transports patients, medical records, specimens, blood components, equipment and supplies in accordance with Institute policy.
• Ensures that all patients on schedule are accounted for and communicate with providers/patients and colleagues as to approximate wait times.
• May be required to assist with research specific patient data entry as required.
• Assures that all clinical areas have an adequate stock of medical supplies, equipment, and forms.
• Assist with medical record preparation.
• Properly cleans and maintains equipment and patient care environment.
• Maintains a working knowledge of current computer systems used in clinical areas.
• Understands and utilizes the telephone/pager systems, including text paging staff, call system and emergency response system.
• Provides proactive instruction and time expectations to patient and family.

o In some cases, Nurse Students in an accredited Bachelor’s program with at least 2 completed clinical rotations may be considered.
