Job Description:
Performs a variety of food and guest service duties under general supervision. This position includes the following roles, which will vary by facility need: patient meal tray assembly and delivery, cashier, food assembly, food serving, and cleaning.
Position Details
- Part Time, 24 hours per week
- Pay Rate:Based on Experience ($17.68 - $22.99)
- Availability Needed: Sunday-Saturday for 3 8 hour shifts between 6am-10:30pm
- Required:Weekend shift assignments
- Benefits Eligible: No
Essential Functions
- Delivers and presents trays to patients using the standard process.
- Performs food preparation functions according to system standards (following standard recipe, assembling ingredients) for example, prepares salads, sandwiches, vegetables, and fruit.
- Follows standardized practices relating to Nutrition Services (e.g. dining experience, meal delivery, maintaining required stock levels)
- Performs housekeeping functions including cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, floor care, and equipment (oven, fryer, hoods).
- Performs accurate cash/credit transactions according to system standards and independently resolves basic customer service issues.

Qualifications
- Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification is required by first day of work (required)
- One or more year of experience in customer service, food service or patient service (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to work with modified diets (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
- Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work at a grill or in a refrigerator and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.

This job acts as a leader in the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses and Scope & Standards of Practice. Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Memorial Hermann Life Flight is a critical care air medical transport service based in Houston, Texas. We serve the community within a 150-mile radius of the Texas Medical Center with helicopters and worldwide using fixed-wing transport.
We are the only hospital-based air ambulance serving Houston and surrounding communities. Founded in 1976 by James Red Duke the service operates around the clock – weather permitting – 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Crews perform more than 3,000 missions each year, making the John S. Essential Functions
- Provides courteous and professional connections with patients over the phone, in person or via secure messaging. Resolves patient needs skills to ensure a superior customer experience by identifying and resolving patient needs related to patient intake and care.
- Documents all phone calls accurately and completely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Schedules patient appointments for visits, procedures, diagnostic tests, referrals, and/or consultations.
- Registers patients over the phone or in person by confirming, entering, and/or updating all required demographic data on patient and guarantor on the registration system. Follows procedures when identifying patients.
- Obtains copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures on all required forms. May verify information on appropriate accounts to determine insurance coordination of benefits, may include pre-certification/prior authorization .
- Assists patients in completing necessary forms to meet regulatory and billing needs prior to receiving clinical care. Scans necessary paperwork and educates patient on financial assistance. Proactively requests payments from patients on current and past medical services. Receives and processes those payments following appropriate procedures for handling payments.
- Stays current on role/responsibilities, updates etc. which may include reviewing monthly email/newsletter, ambulatory epic dashboard, patient access, work ques, attend clinic/service line meetings, review emails each shift, etc. to ensure the highest standard of performance is achieved.
Minimum Qualifications
- Six months of customer service experience involving interactions with customers.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
- Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
- Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
Preferred Qualifications

Job Summary:
Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience. Job Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members.

Essential Functions

- Stays current on role/responsibilities, updates etc. which may include reviewing monthly email/newsletter, ambulatory epic dashboard, patient access, work ques, attend clinic/service line meetings, review emails each shift, etc. to ensure the highest standard of performance is achieved.
Minimum Qualifications
- Six months of customer service experience involving interactions with customers.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
- Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $24.83 - $35.71 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.

- Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in even challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. Is alert, observant, and ethical. Complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations. Maintains Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including but not limited to: inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patient valuables management, and thorough contraband searches. Assists team members, patients and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help. Ensures traffic control, monitors conduct of visitors on premises, and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Responds to service calls, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents. Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervenes in accordance with training to situations that have a potential for injury.
- Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and completes timely and accurate reports. Addresses and escalates complaints to the appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation.
- Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all department and units. Delivers security awareness education to team members to leverage their assistance in the overall security of the site.
- Liaisons with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
- May serve as a precept for newly hired officers, providing feedback and assisting in maintaining competencies for all officers.
- Maintains current department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of critical restraints, etc.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Security Officer healthcare certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) needs to be obtained within 2 years, an
- Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is required in order to carry a taser at work and
- A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles, and
Education Required:
- High School Graduate.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area that includes experiences in responding to emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients, visitors, staff and/or property.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor in dealings with employees, visitors, and patients, even if they are verbally aggressive persons.
- Demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to use a computer to document work such (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
- Ability to work a flexible scheduling including off-shifts, weekends and holiday, as necessary.
- Ability to meet and maintain current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, etc.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday and must lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to push/pull with 35 lbs of force.
- Temperature in working environment (when outside) may vary between - 10 to 90 degrees due to seasonal changes.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

JOB SUMMARY: GREETS, INSTRUCTS AND SCHEDULES PATIENTS, REGISTERS PATIENTS INTO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND DETERMINES THEIR INSURANCE BENEFITS. SERVES AS A LIAISON BETWEEN PATIENT AND CLINICAL SUPPORT STAFF.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS LIST MAY NOT INCLUDE ALL OF THE DUTIES ASSIGNED.)
1. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
2. Greets patients in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
3. Checks-in patients, verifies and updates demographic and insurance information to the medical record. Assists patients with ambulatory difficulties. Follows office scheduling policies. Collects payments and enters charges into computer system.
4. Registers new patients into computer system and verifies all patients’ addresses, telephone numbers and insurance information.
5. Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and conveys information to appropriate parties. Proficiency with medical office technology systems.
6. Maintains work area and reception area in neat and orderly manner.
7. Advises Practice Manager of problems and concerns in the Front Office and helps in problem solving.
8. Attends educational and staff meetings as scheduled.
9. Determine and input daily balance of charges and receipts as assigned by the Office Manager.
Follows established policies and procedures; adheres to OSHA Regulations. Must be able to work with other staff members to foster a team approach to the highest quality of patient care and staff cooperation. Must be able to support the clinic efficiency and cohesion.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of front office procedures and medical terminology. Excellent grammar and spelling skills. Knowledge in operation of medical office technology systems. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
EDUCATION
High school education or equivalent
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Strong communication skills with consistent incorporation of judgement and discretion.
2. Working knowledge of medical terminology and coding preferred.
Previous two years in a front office using medical management software preferred.
4. Previous typing or data entry at 40 wpm experience.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending and stooping required. Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds of boxes of paper. Requires manual dexterity to operate office technology. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, policies, and computer terminals. Requires hearing within normal range for telephone use.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment and requires both desk and counter work. Frequent contact with employees and outside agencies. Continual patient contact may involve dealing with angry and upset people.
