Job Description:
The Child Life Assistant Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families, and other healthcare team members and facilitates age-appropriate activities to help make the healthcare experience easier for patients and families. Under the direction of a child life specialist, the child life assistant provides activities in a play setting that reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. This role is designed as a career path toward other child development roles and most Child Life Assistants are working towards child life certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals while earning a degree and certifications.
Posting Specifics
- Entry Rate:Based on experience
- Shift Details: PRN (as needed by the department). Supporting open shifts for a child life assistant. A minimum of six shifts per month, including one weekend or evening shift.
- Located at Primary Children's Hospital - Lehi Campus
- Additional Details: Main areas of coverage would support our in-patient playroom and teen room, and our outpatient Kids Clubhouse.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working with healthy children or children in a medical or hospital setting
- Knowledge of child development
- Computer experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases or similar applications
- Able to work independently and be organized
- Ability to work in a stressful environment related to patient needs including acute, chronic, and complex disease, and grief and bereavement
- Maintains appropriate boundaries with patients and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree
- Working towards child life certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals
- Work experience as a child life assistant.
- Completion of child life pre-internship/practicum
- Completion of a 600-hour child life internship.
- Spanish speaking
Essential Functions
- Accurately assesses and prioritizes developmental needs of the pediatric patient and family and updates child life specialist when patient needs are outside scope of practice.
- Develops, implements, advertises, and evaluates developmentally appropriate play/recreational activities and directs parents, students, and volunteers in providing developmentally appropriate toys to patients and families in play space.
- Screens and transports patients to play areas, completes appropriate check-in guidelines and policies to ensure child safety and assists in coordinating special events, holidays, and special visitors.
- Maintains a clean, safe environment in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards.
- Monitors and provides a supportive child-friendly environment in play spaces; supervises, orients, and trains students and volunteers as needed.
- Assists with ordering, receiving, organizing, and distributing supplies.
- Supervises and independently leads the facility “Kids Clubhouse,” coordinating the work of the volunteers in those spaces.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and assess issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations to maintain safety
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy to patients, employees, and the community in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Baptist Health.
Job Duties:
Establishes and implements a standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and treat those patients requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Maintains pertinent patient data necessary to recommend, prescribe, or modify therapeutic diets as needed to meet the nutritional needs of the patients.
Develops and provides nutrition education/counseling to patients, patient family, and patient caretakers.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited University or College approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or registry eligible (must obtain within 6 months of hire)
Licensed Dietitian in the state of Kentucky (must obtain within 3 months of hire or within 3 months of obtaining credentials)

- Serves as subject matter expert for assigned entity(s) (Hospital, Physician Organization, Research Institute, Academic Institute, HM Foundation, MOB, for Clinical and Financial reporting systems. Serves as role model and mentor to more junior team members. Supports training and onboarding of new team members.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists department administrator, faculty members or department, hospital leadership and entity leadership in managing the departmental budget.
- Extracts actual and budget financial accounting General Ledger (G/L) data or financial data from appropriate sources to report and reconcile with appropriate leadership. Generates accurate and timely reports.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews revenue projections, budget revisions, etc., for physician practice, academic department or assigned hospital or entity department(s)
- Develops, monitors and reports key system operational indicators and recommends improvements. Highlights performance issues, identifies problems and researches solutions. Makes recommendations to management for improvement.
- Follows all internal audit requirements for appropriate system applications.
- Utilizes/enhances tools to improve the accuracy of financial analytics and enhance revenue opportunities. Submits invoices and follow-up with industry partners as needed. In addition, prepares necessary journal entries for coordinator effort and Principal Investigator (PI) oversight as appropriate.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs one or more of the following: • Supports and develops auditing, reporting and contract modeling tools as needed for identification and analysis of rate and/or fee schedule auditing, financial performance and contract performance as well as modeling and analysis of potential opportunities. • Maintains monthly dashboard of key indicators and external benchmarks as defined by management. Prepares and maintains revenue models. Compiles information needed for organization profit and loss statement as required. • Reviews contracts, calculates provider productivity bonuses/compensation models as appropriate. • Assists in preparation of gift, grant and contract budget proposals as needed. Assists in the oversight of department’s financial files for all grant and donor funding. • Ensures/verifies that all faculty, staff and research personnel are charged to the appropriate funding source via submission of a salary re-allocation form as appropriate.
- Utililzes resources effectively and efficiently, demonstrating financial stewardship. Manages own time effectively and prioritizes work to achieve maximum results in a timely manner.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains and monitors procedures and Standards of Practice (SOP’s) for reconciliation process. Maintain working knowledge of hospital and physician compensation methodologies and affecting government regulations, as applicable. Identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations to management. Seeks out opportunities to grow knowledge of cost accounting system, clinical trials management systems or others and their relationship to other financial and non-financial systems. Shares knowledge and learnings with team.

Summary:
Under minimal supervision, understands and provides technical knowledge and the ability to test, repair and maintain high-end/complex medical devices. Works in cross departmental teams to identify opportunities for improvement in practice and policy.Trains and mentors Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) I and II staff.Writes, reviews, and executes testing procedures on medical devices, ensuring compliance to codes and following manufacturer’s instructions. Performs troubleshooting and repair, calling for special service when needed.Serve as project manager for moderate to high complexity projects.Repairs and maintains high-level/complex medical devices by adjusting, calibrating, testing and documenting equipment performance.
