Nebraska Medicine is seeking an individual to join our Access Services team in a front-line, patient-facing role. In this position, you will have a meaningful impact on patients and visitors and often serve as the first impression of Nebraska Medicine.
Position Highlights:
• Work in high-volume, fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
• Interact with patients face-to-face and at bedside
• Accurately handle sensitive financial and insurance information in real time
• Maintain professionalism in stressful or emotionally charged situations
• Float and cross-train across departments as needed
Schedule:
• Full-Time (36 hours/week)
• Saturday, 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM and Sunday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• Benefits Eligible
Training Schedule:
• Full-time for the first 3 weeks: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
• Training is required, non-negotiable, and must be completed before transitioning to the regular schedule. Please only apply if you are able to fully commit.

Duties: Sr Patient Access Associate
Ensure patients and customers are greeted in a professional, timely and efficient manner and accounts are created accurately and efficiently in order to optimize cash flow for organization while exceeding customer expectations and complying with all state and federal regulations and laws throughout the processes of scheduling confirmation, pre-registration/pre admission, registration/admission, insurance verification, receipting of payments, and patient way finding/escorting. Coverage for position is required 24 hours a day 7 days a week with needs in various areas of the organization, including the emergency department. Face to face and bedside patient contact required.
Required Qualifications: Sr Patient Access Associate
• Minimum of two years customer service experience required.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Ability to work in a proactive self-directed manner required.
• Multi-tasking and problem solving abilities required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with aptitude for detail-oriented work required.
• Demonstrates the ability to form and maintain working relationships within the organization to foster a team environment required.
• Ability to type 35 wpm with 95% accuracy rating required.
•Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire or transfer date required required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later). Basic Life Support (BLS) within six months of hire or transfer date required (cost will be funded by department).
Preferred Qualifications: Sr Patient Access Associate
• Experience in health care, collections, registration, or revenue cycle preferred.
• Associate's degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred.
• Experience in health care revenue cycle functions including insurance or registration preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel preferred.
• Depending on the position available, fluency in Spanish preferred.

Job Duties:
In this role, the RN will be responsible and accountable for direct comprehensive nursing care for the patient from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse will function as an on-shift team member providing direct patient care to meet the needs of patients, families, and co-workers.
About the Unit:
The 2nd floor Intermediate Unit is a 34-bed unit specializing in Progressive Care (PCU) or intermediate nursing. With nurse-to-patient ratios (4:1), our team provides high-quality care to adult patients with complex medical needs. Our unit is composed both experienced and new graduate nurses; we work as an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient centric care. Our team continues building our reputation as a unit everyone wants to be a part of because of teamwork, clinical expertise, and a supportive environment.
Qualifications:
Current Indiana or compact state RN license.
BLS for healthcare provider required.
ACLS for Healthcare provider required (obtained within 6 months of hire).

- Maintains all programs to ensure compliance to accreditation standards and regulatory agency requirements. Conducts record review for performance improvement, peer review, patient safety, risk managements and other projects. - Facilitates timely and effective resolutions of patient care process issues. Uses performance improvement methodologies in the development of performance improvement/patient safety initiatives and coordinates teams as needed to drive change towards desired outcomes. - Facilitates a multi-disciplinary approach to improve clinical process and outcomes. - Supports improvement efforts for potential or actual quality of care issues including participation/facilitation of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), Critical Incident Review (CIR) or event review as needed. Supports leadership and staff with the development and implementation of process changes. Conducts evaluation of effectiveness of initiatives and presents findings as needed. Facilitates systems’ design to hardwire patient safety processes.

The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the OR staff has correct, fully functional, sterile instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The SPD Tech will display resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism while adhering to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation per Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Associates of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), and CDC guidelines.
Essential Functions:
• Answers telephone promptly and assist caller with obtaining items needed
• Assembles supplies and places into case carts for scheduled and non-scheduled procedures
• Makes rounds throughout the hospital to deliver sterile and non-sterile instrumentation, supplies and equipment, and to pick-up contaminated or credit instrumentation, supplies and equipment
• Delivers scheduled case carts to the Surgery Department
• Inventories and delivers back-up case carts to the Surgery Department and required areas
• Maintains responsibility for returned instrumentation and supplies (if applicable) that is unused, and the integrity of packaging has not been compromised
• Performs cleaning and decontamination duties, working quickly and safely and thoroughly addresses all instrumentation taking into account any unique cleaning demands
• Inspects, assembles, and packages all decontaminated reusable instruments and sets ensuring for cleanliness and functionality of all instrumentation

Job Summary:
A Patient Care Tech (PCT) at ProMedica plays a vital role in the health and safety of our patients every day. From caring for patients to performing clerical services, a PCT helps all members of the ProMedica health care team while complying with standards, procedures, and policies. A PCT is a genuine ambassador for ProMedica as they interact with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
The PCT assists the patient care team with exams, procedures, obtaining patient data and other processes related to direct patient care. The PCT also ensures an appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available and functioning properly.
In this role, you will perform tasks related to scheduling procedures, coordinating admission as well as discharge and transfer processes. PCTs answer phones, take messages, and direct calls. You will also pick up and deliver specimens, documents, and other items to contribute to operational efficiency.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Assists patients with or provides personal hygiene care and other routine services patients requiring assistance such as bathing, dressing, shaving, offering, and removing bed pans, and so forth.
- Serves patients with food trays and snacks and removes trays. Assists feeding patients if necessary.
- May obtain and record patient’s vital signs including temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure readings, patient’s intake and output glucometer checks, patient weights, and other routine pertinent information. Observes patients’ conditions and medical equipment or apparatus reporting all unusual conditions or reactions to the appropriate nursing personnel. May assist nurses and physicians with patient examinations. Initiates and discontinues telemetry monitoring while maintaining a knowledge of the telemetry transmitter (i.e., changing patches, changing batteries).
- Performs rounding in assigned rooms every other hour on patient to determine need for restroom, position change, possessions, and need for additional nursing care. Tidies patients’ rooms, changes bed linens, empties medical apparatus of patient discharges, and performs routine cleaning tasks on the nursing unit, as necessary.
- Assists in admitting patients to the nursing unit, obtaining necessary or specialized supplies or equipment, explaining hospital routines, policies and so forth. Ambulates or assists in the ambulation of patients; assists in lifting patients in order to transfer them to and from wheelchair or wheeled beds; assists patients in walking; and transports patients to other areas of the hospital.
- Assists and maintains participation in performance improvement and customer service improvement activities for patient care. Attends department meetings. Assists with the orientation of new personnel.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Skills: The ability to perform routine patient care functions such as baths, taking temperatures, pulse and respiration and blood pressure. One to four weeks of on-the-job training at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital in order to become familiar with job responsibilities and duties, the work area, and policies and procedures. Must be able to follow routine written and/or verbal instructions. Must have interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with patients of the following ages: Pediatric (8-12 years); adolescent (13-17 years); adult (18-64 years); and geriatric (64 years and above); physicians, other hospital personnel as needed to promote quality patient care. The ambulatory clinic licensed practical nurse (LPN) utilizes the nursing process to coordinate an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. - Assisting with scheduling of tests and treatments. Arranging referrals to a specialist and obtaining pre-authorizations when directed to by the provider.

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, the Patient Care Technician I performs a variety of patient care activities. Receives workplace education and training to assist members of the healthcare team in the care of patients.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ weights and heights.
8. Performs EKG’s, Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Performs other selected unit specific procedures, such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
10. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient, obtaining equipment and supplies, helping to position patient, providing the patient with emotional support, and cleaning up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
11. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
12. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
13. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
14. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment as needed.
15. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
16. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.

Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
Hand dexterity, hearing and vision ability to take direction from a patient or provider, adjust equipment, observe and describe patient observations. Must be able to lift, up to 50 pounds.
Work is of heavy demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.

PCA II -
Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.
As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
