Position Purpose
The Patient Support Technician functions as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under supervision of the Registered Nurse utilizing principles of Relationship-Based Care, performs direct patient care to a specific group of patients and coordinates activities which relate to the flow of unit processes.
Shifts Available:7:00 pm – 7:00 am
Status available: Full-time
Every Other Weekend and 3 Holidays per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.
Required Qualifications:
Education
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Experience
6 months direct patient care experience within past 5 years.
Completion of one Medical/Surgical clinical rotation in a nursing educational program.
Completion of a "Patient Care Technician" program that requires successful completion of an externship in an acute care facility.
What you will do:
Provides basic bedside care and selected procedures under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Including but not limited to: venipuncture, 12 lead EKG, basic blood glucose collection and monitoring, respiratory care (i.e. Cough and deep breathing, incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup, hand held nebulizer), dressing changes, collection of vital signs, recognition of life-threatening conditions with initial responses and reporting, emptying and measuring drainage equipment.
Performs activities of daily living (ADL) appropriate to the patient's condition under the direction of and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Performs basic nutritional support to patients such as bed set up, assistance with feeding, and collection and documentation of intake and calorie count as appropriate.
Performs other various duties as assigned and needed. These duties may vary depending upon the unit, patient type and need, number and complexity of treatment provided. Additional duties may also include nonclinical duties consistent with meeting the needs of the patient and care team.

Under the direct supervision of the Diet Supervisors, the Dietary Aide performs a variety of food service, dish room duties, and cash handling duties as well as other related activities.Major Responsibilities
• Follows proper hygiene and safety protocols (e.g., hand washing, glove usage, HACCP guidelines).
• Maintains a sanitary and safe work environment.
• Provides courteous customer service and communicates effectively.
• Prepares and delivers food trays accurately and efficiently.
• Operates dishwashing equipment and maintains cleanliness.
• Assists with food production, cafeteria service, and cashiering.
• Completes required training and adheres to departmental standards.
• Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and initiative in daily tasks.

Responsibilities
- You will organize patient care by prioritizing, delegating, delivering and evaluating on an ongoing basis
- You will utilize the knowledge base of nursing education and experience to deliver nursing care using the nursing process according to hospital policies, procedures and protocols
- Collaborate with the nursing team to facilitate overall improvement in quality of care, patient experience and cost reduction
- Foster a learning environment for patients/families, nursing staff and members of the health care team
- Advocate for ethical and holistic care promoting the autonomy, dignity, and health of patients from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or obtained within five (5) years from the initial date of hire; RN with 15+ years of service or internal candidates hired before January 1, 2021 may be considered in satisfaction of this requirement in lieu of an education agreement
- Advanced degree in Nursing (MSN, PhD, DNP, ARNP) preferred
- Registered Nurse license (RN) in Washington State or multi-state licensure endorsement (MSL)
- Current BLS Certification required
- ACLS or NALS or PALS or TNCC or NRP certification, as required by facility or department
- Certification in specialty area preferred
- One (1) year of experience in acute care setting preferred

Night shift is 3p-3a
The Waterloo Birth Center consists of labor & delivery, postpartum care, and a Level III NICU. We are a 23 bed unit, with 19 of those rooms being large LDRP that allow for families to stay in one room for the entire stay. We have a two room OR suites for patients needing a c-section. We are one of a very few integrated neonatal intensive care units in the nation. Our NICU infants remain in the LDRP room with the family. This allows for true family centered care and bonding while both recover after delivery. We are blessed with a team of providers that consist of OBGYN doctors and midwives. We have a below average primary c-section rate and a high VBAC success rate.
As a Level III NICU, we provide care to infants 28+ weeks gestation. We also have a NICU transport team that typically will help transport infants from smaller hospitals to our NICU when a higher level of care is needed.
As a NICU RN at MercyOne, you will provide specialized, evidence-based, and outcome-focused care to critically ill and premature newborns in a dynamic and supportive environment. Using advanced critical thinking and neonatal expertise, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care while supervising and coordinating the NICU nursing team.
You will collaborate with neonatologists, pediatric specialists, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure clear communication and optimal outcomes for vulnerable newborns. By conducting thorough assessments, identifying patient needs, and developing goal-oriented care plans, you will support neonates through critical stages of growth and development. Your ability to monitor and respond to complex conditions, provide family education, and adjust care plans as needed will help ensure the best possible outcomes for every newborn in your care.
Education:
Associate degree required, BSN preferred. No prior experience required. Current Iowa RN license, BLS, Mandatory Reporter. NRP. ALCS

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is the first point of contact at healthcare facilities and assists patients with the administrative aspect of gaining access to medical treatment. What you'll do:
Provides quality patient care by providing technical support to the anesthesia providers and Surgical team. Ensures anesthesia equipment and supplies are in a state of readiness. Primary work areas include (1) Main Operating Room (Russo OR), (2) Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), and support of all other areas where Anesthesia services are provided (e.g. Labor & Delivery, GI Lab, Cath/EP Lab, IR, etc.). All areas are located on one campus so commuting between sites is needed.
Performs laboratory tests in the Anesthesia Blood Gas Lab providing lab results to the anesthesia providers.
Provides technical support to the anesthesia providers and the surgical team.
Following proper procedures in setting up of transducers. Timeliness in providing required equipment. Following proper procedures in stocking, cleaning and disinfection of anesthesia carts and equipment.
Provide supplies and equipment as needed during surgical procedures to the anesthesia provider.
Completes the anesthesia turnover between cases not delaying the start of following procedures.
Assists the anesthesia providers in difficult airways, trauma case and as needed
Provide for patient safety by ensuring that equipment utilized, is correctly set up.
Following guidelines in the processing and set up of endoscopes and endoscopic equipment, and cleaning of equipment following universal standard precaution, wearing PPE.
Cleaning/disinfection of anesthesia equipment correctly between patients.
Cleaning/disinfection of anesthesia equipment in the OR suite at the completion of the OR schedule

- Assists the inter-professional health care team in the development and implementation of protocols to ensure patient safety. Integrates and contributes to professional practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols and leads improvements in patient safety-related processes.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs accurate and timely documentation in medical records, including diagnosis and CPT coding.
- Implements department strategies to achieve financial target and mentors others to do the same through timely documentation of care, decreasing length of stay, optimizing efficiency, and other areas according to department specifications. Projects awareness and understanding of resource allocation based on patient needs and staff experience, knowledge, and skills.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Fosters identification and implementation of innovative solutions to improve patient care or department operations such as the organization’s quality metrics or other department-specific measures by leading and/or participating in department and/or hospital projects/activities or a hospital committee.
- Provides education of information/knowledge in professional activities such as research, presentations, and publications. Expands individual nursing knowledge and coaches staff to grow in knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
