Where You Will Work:
9ST is a 48 bed Adult Moderate Acuity Cardiovascular Surgical unit. Working closely with the CVICU, we provide care to those patients needing specialty services before and after their heart surgery, heart transplant and/or ventricular assist device (VAD). Orientation to our unit is completed in two phases. Phase one focuses on the care of the cardiac surgical patient with phase 2 centering on the more complex needs of the heart transplant, ultrafiltration or VAD patient. Ensuring that our patients always receive care from the most professionally trained nurse we. 9ST is proud of our quality and patient satisfaction scores. Our dedicated team is always open to new nurses who are looking for a challenging but rewarding nursing career.

We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Strong interest and passion for cardiac care
- A commitment to teamwork, communication, and continual professional growth
- 1+ year experience for day shift in acute care nursing

- As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Position requires use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Job Description:
The Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) participates in high-quality, patient-centered care by providing continuous observation and monitoring for high-risk patients. In collaboration with the patient care team, the PSA ensures the patient environment is free of obstacles and minimizes the risk of falls and accidental or intentional self-harm. The PSA may also assist with basic activities of daily living.
Essential Functions
- Maintain continuous line of sight of the patient at all times, including during bathroom use. Observe the patient while eating and drinking and assist as needed.
- Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the patient’s room.
- Accompanies the patient to tests or procedures, remaining with them unless instructed otherwise. If asked to leave, wait outside, and return as soon as the procedure is complete.
- Identifies and promptly reports any changes or concerns in the patient's status to the assigned nurse. Reports patient information and activities during hand-off with nursing present. Reports any expression of ideas or intention to hurt self/others or desire to leave the facility Against Medical Advice (AMA) to the assigned nurse. Communicates with team members to ensure the patient is not left alone.
- Listens attentively if the patient wishes to converse and encourage them to share concerns with the physician or assigned nurse. Avoids giving any advice.
- Follows all Infection Control policies. Completes the Environmental Safety Checklist each shift and during hand-off, ensuring ligature risks are mitigated in coordination with the primary nurse.
- Consults with the nurse partner if the patient needs to be mobilized.
Additional Responsibilities for Patients with Suicidal Ideation:
- Remain with the patient at all times, even if family or visitors are present. Ensure a continuous line of sight and provide constant one-on-one visual observation to immediately intervene if necessary. Ensure the environment has limited risk factors by removing all linen immediately after use and ensuring no extra linens are in the room. Ensure the patient is in a gown with no strings, and remove all patient clothing, shoes, jewelry, and belongings from the room, preferably sending them home with family. Secure any valuables not taken by the family. Do not allow visitors to give any items to the patient or bring large bags into the room; consult nursing if visitors refuse.
- Only allow electric razors, remove any unnecessary electrical cords, and ensure only plastic utensils are used for meals. Observe closely during meals and remove utensils immediately after use. Ensure all plastic trash and linen bags are removed from the room. Ensure windows are not opened and all sharps containers are removed. Remove all gloves and glove boxes. Ensure there are no supplies, equipment, or other devices that are sharp, metal, or plastic and could be used as ligatures or ligature-support devices.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Responsible for identifying and coordinating patient/family care to support terminally ill patients and families in all hospice settings. Frequency of patient / family contacts will be at the discretion of the Case Manager and his/her assessment of need, but will be a minimum of every 15 days. The Case Manager utilizes teaching, assessment, and intervention skills to provide comfort care at end of life and maximize the quality of life for the patients and families.
Educates patients and families regarding disease processes and trajectory, disease management, hospice philosophies, signs and symptoms of decline and end of life. Updates the primary physician as indicated and according to agency, accreditation, state and federal requirements.
Responsible for continuous review of all aspects of every patient of her/his caseload to include appropriate utilization of services and the appropriate hospice level of care criteria are met. Makes referrals to other team members as appropriate.
Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
Leads the interdisciplinary care group (IDG) specific to each patient and family on their caseload. Working within the IDG to develop, revise, and implement the patient’s Plan of Care. Coordinates all services and collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to provide consistent patient care. Arranges for and/or recommends equipment, medical supplies and other necessary items and services as indicated.
Enters, completes and updates documentation in the electronic health record as required according to agency/department standards and policies, accreditation, state and federal guidelines.
Documentation accurately records the patient’s experience with a combination of assessments and narrative .
Provides on-going assessment of patient response to treatments, medications and teaching while making appropriate changes in interventions and follow-up to meet patient needs. Updates and revises POC as indicated with supportive documentation to changes. Communicates problems and changes in condition to physicians, supervisor and other members of the IDG. Enters verbal orders from the physician or APN into the Electronic Health Record.
Supervises and performs Home Health Aide and licensed practical nurse supervisory visits according to agency standards. Instructs paraprofessional staff on a timely basis and in accordance with agency, state and federal regulations.
Facilitates the discharge planning process according to agency standards and utilizes interagency/system and community resources to assure continuity of care after discharge.
WI ONLY: May conduct OASIS assessments for Palliative Care patient and establish and update the plan of care. May conduct hospice initial and comprehensive assessments and establish and update the plan of care. Ensures continued skilled nursing/home bound criteria are met. Initiates appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures.
Utilizes proper body mechanics, assistive devices and safety techniques when performing various patient positioning/repositioning and transporting duties, which require lifting, and pushing/pulling. Orients and mentors new staff as requested.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs prescribed planned course of radiation therapy as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols and in accordance with standards of professional radiation therapy practice. Performs needed assessment, care and treatment planning for patient population.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs radiation therapy treatments by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
3. Operates treatment and treatment planning equipment to include simulation in accordance with departmental policy. Prepares treatments and administers prescribed doses in accordance with established policies. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
4. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies.
5. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety practices. Ensures the safe receipt, administration, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials utilizing ALARA principles.
6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiation oncology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department.
8. Independently performs prescribed radiation therapy procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients. Internal customers: All levels of radiation oncology, nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients, caregivers and family members.

Prepares room and equipment properly for each treatment. Performs imaging (CBCT, KV, MV, Active Motion Management) as ordered, to position patient. Analyzes results, identifies issues and takes appropriate action including repositioning patient and repeating procedure to deliver therapy according to treatment plan. Staff: 10 Full time APPs on the team. Collegial team environment. Well supported by attending physicians with at least two (usually three) faculty physicians in the ED.
Role: “True Emergency Medicine” – Classic and cutting edge EM work with APPs fully integrated in the care teams.
Training: New graduates are welcome and supported with a robust onboarding program. Paired 1x1 with an experienced APP for the first 3 months.
Licensure: Must have NC PA/NP license (NPs must be ENP boarded or eligible), BLS, ACLS before starting. Must obtain ATLS after starting eventually.
Schedule: Day and evening shifts are primarily 8 hr shifts with one12 hr shift. (7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-5p, 3p-11p, 11:30a-11:30p)
- No overnights currently, but that is subject to change.

Performs a variety of laboratory and diagnostic procedures in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Coagulation and Phlebotomy on specimens obtained on clinic patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. - Works independently, organizing to maximize department efficiency. Completes testing within the Laboratory TAT expectations. Takes appropriate action when necessary.
- Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to Laboratory test procedures for specimen identification, handling, processing, and storing.
- Performs instrument start-up, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as required with proper documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action.
- Performs, evaluates, and documents all required Quality Control. Takes appropriate corrective action.
- Correctly performs tests, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits with proper documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action.
- Answers phone promptly and courteously. Answers pneumatic tube system promptly.

- Performs a variety of repair and installation duties in and around the buildings of the facility of the plumbing systems such as water and sewer, steam, air, piped medical gas, vacuum and fire protection.
- Performs Preventative Maintenance on associated plumbing system components and documents accordingly to department procedures.
- Assists outside contractors with plumbing system outages during major utility repairs and/or new construction.
- Assists other Facilities Management staff with troubleshooting/repairing equipment as it relates to the Facility infrastructure.
