Functions as a member of the transport team and is responsible for the care of ill and injured patients. Provides patient care while promoting safety and efficiency. Performs under the direct supervision of the Medical Control Physician, either by continuous radio contact or direct consultation. Maintains necessary certifications/licensures, skills, continuing education and complete competency checks as required. Maintains vehicles in a mission ready status.
Essential Functions
- Completes skills check in a timely manner with accuracy.
- Maintains clean environment to include base and maintaining vehicles in a mission ready status. Check, restock and clean at the beginning of the shift and as needed throughout the shift.
- Provides accurate and legible documentation of patient care with attention to detail that accurately reflect assessments and interventions. Ensure that chart is placed in patient's medical record in a timely manner. Review charts on a regular basis with leader/manager
- Provides quality patient care and education in accordance with policies and state regulations as approved by Medical Director and professional standards of care.
- Administers medications and IV solutions safely, correctly and per policy.
- Follows guidelines and procedures independently when Medical Control is not available via radio or direct consultation.
- Assists with other activities which includes but not limited to public relations and marketing activities when needed.
- Follows safety guidelines and procedures; ensures seat belts are worn by crew and passengers.
- Follows vehicle assignments as needed/directed by department. Maintain flexibility with vehicle assignments including the understanding that vehicle assignments are subject to change from a posted schedule based upon the needs of the department.
- Drive in accordance with Atrium Health policy as well as local and state regulations
Physical Requirements
Duties require working, transporting, and driving in all weather conditions to include exposure to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather. Must not have any physical, emotional, or mental impairment to prevent them from riding, driving, or administering patient care in a transport vehicle. This work area may have cramped space and be poorly lit. Noise levels are moderate as associated with working in and around emergency.
Hearing protection is available and required for use around “hot” aircraft. Requires handling of patients that may have infectious diseases, possible exposure to unpleasant conditions and/or handling of contaminated materials or patients. Requires ability to function in high stress situations. Must have critical thinking skills that enable the employee to make rapid, appropriate decisions that ensure the safety of both the crew and patients. Must have ability to concentrate. Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Heavy lifting required, with the assistance of a partner to load/unload patients and carry equipment. Good physical stamina and endurance necessary to perform duties. Employee must maintain fitness standards in accordance with policy. Must have intact sense of sight, hearing, smell and touch with good finger dexterity. Good motor skills and eye/hand coordination required. Requires good personal hygiene and appropriate conduct. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include, but not limited to, speaking proper English in understandable terms.
Education, Experience and Certifications
High school graduate or GED required. Successful completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required. Current SC EMT-P certification required. NC EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic certifications preferred at time of hire; NC EMT-P and National Registry Paramedic required within 90 days of hire and required to be maintained throughout employment. BCLS and ACLS required. PALS, S.T.A.B.L.E. and NRP preferred; Approved trauma certification required within 6 months of employment. Atrium Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment required. One-year active field pre-hospital experience required. Three years total paramedic experience preferred. Annual completion of safety briefings and annual survival training required. Must have a valid driver's license and qualify as insurable by Atrium Health insurance carrier requirements for driving Mobile Medicine vehicles. Must have had a driver's license for a minimum of 2 years. Must have an operational smartphone for use as communication device related to Mobile Medicine operations.

Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices., and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
Major Responsibilities:
Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation which may include use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion and special transferring as indicated.
Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately.
Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN including room set up, orientation to room, removing linen, and proper management of patient belongings. Ensures patient call light is always in reach of patient and answers call-lights promptly.
Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated using approved process for accurate specimen labeling and identification. Maintains competency as required.
Completes various errands as directed including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Maintains and orders stock for nursing area. Cleans equipment and work areas.
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection.
Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
Under the direction of RN and as determined by site/unit requirements, may be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and bladder scans.
Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift. Must be able to: lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. lift up to 20 lbs. over the head. carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to: - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. - perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines. Must have functional vision and hearing. Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids on a continuous basis; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary. Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Position Purpose
The Patient Support Technician functions as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under supervision of the Registered Nurse utilizing principles of Relationship-Based Care, performs direct patient care to a specific group of patients and coordinates activities which relate to the flow of unit processes.

What you will do:
- Provides basic bedside care and selected procedures under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Including but not limited to: venipuncture, 12 lead EKG, basic blood glucose collection and monitoring, respiratory care (i.e. Cough and deep breathing, incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup, hand held nebulizer), dressing changes, collection of vital signs, recognition of life-threatening conditions with initial responses and reporting, emptying and measuring drainage equipment.
- Performs activities of daily living (ADL) appropriate to the patient's condition under the direction of and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Performs basic nutritional support to patients such as bed set up, assistance with feeding, and collection and documentation of intake and calorie count as appropriate.
- Performs other various duties as assigned and needed. These duties may vary depending upon the unit, patient type and need, number and complexity of treatment provided. Additional duties may also include nonclinical duties consistent with meeting the needs of the patient and care team.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

- Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation which may include use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion and special transferring as indicated.
- Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately.
- Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN including room set up, orientation to room, removing linen, and proper management of patient belongings. Ensures patient call light is always in reach of patient and answers call-lights promptly.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated using approved process for accurate specimen labeling and identification. Maintains competency as required.
- Completes various errands as directed including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Maintains and orders stock for nursing area. Cleans equipment and work areas.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection.
- Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
- Under the direction of RN and as determined by site/unit requirements, may be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and bladder scans.
- Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. - High School Graduate
- at least 1 year of CNA experience in an acute or procedural setting

12. Monitors new patients for knowledge of room service, gives menu and explains as needed.
13. Rapport is established and maintained with nursing staff as evidenced by positive feedback and comments regarding communication with NCA.
14. Functions as a team with Clinical Dietitians. Respects Dietitian’s prime responsibility for patient nutritional care and responds appropriately.
15. Communicates clearly with tray line and production personnel regarding patient special requests (follow-ups on any unusual requests) to meet patient needs.
16. Meets sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies, health department regulations and HAACP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) in maintaining cleanliness of nutrition centers on the units.
17. Patient trays are collected and returned to the kitchen within a reasonable timeframe.
18. While waiting for trays, assists the room service assembly line as needed, wrap silverware or help in dishroom.
19. Follows procedures for phone and iPad use.
20. Other duties may be assigned. May include duties normally done by a dietetic assistant.
21. Daily deadlines – must have menus completed by certain times and deliver meals on time.

Position Summary

- Due to current processing delays at the Department of Health (approximately four [4] months), the credential is not required to be obtained within ninety (90) days, provided that the application was submitted in a timely and complete manner. Works as a team member of Special Events Emergency Team to deliver optimal patient care in the prehospital setting at customer venues. Provides assessment and appropriate interventions according to North Carolina OEMS guidelines and established hospital policy. Must be thoroughly familiar and able to perform interventions at level of training with all equipment and supplies at all prehospital workstations, including ambulance unit.
Essential Functions
- Provides direct patient care at the Emergency Medical Technician Defibrillation level according to the special events protocols, as well as NC OEMS guidelines.
- Functions as a support role to the paramedic or nurse during transport of patients from venue sites. Assist with packaging, loading, and providing care to the patient at the EMT-D level as directed.
- Drives the vehicles according to special events policy as well as state and local law. Ensure the safety of all passengers at all times.
- Ensures that the entire vehicle is cleaned and restocked after each event and/or patient transport.
- Reports any safety hazards to the lead paramedic or Assistant Director. If using a MCA ambulance, report any safety hazards to the MCA charge person as soon as possible.
- Documents patient condition and all treatment provided while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Maintains necessary certifications, skills, required continuing education, and mandatory in services.
Physical Requirements
Must have good physical stamina, endurance and body which would not be adversely affected by having to lift, carry, and balance at times in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Motor coordination is necessary because of uneven terrain. Both the patient's and the team member's well being must not be jeopardized. Hearing must be in normal range as well as near visual acuity to be able to take accurate vital signs and to detect any deterioration in the patients condition. Normal eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity to give injections, medications and intravenous therapy. Must have good oral communication skills to take patient history, give instruction and communicate with physician about patient care.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Current NC EMT certification required. BCLS required. Current Drivers License required. National EMT registry preferred. 1 to 2 years experience with a 911 service as an EMT required.

Summary:
