Summary:
Provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Additional Job Information:
Complexity of Work: Department specific credentials- ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate required for those RNs administering chemotherapy.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for ICU, ED, PACU, Endo, Tele, OB, MHN Pre-Op and Specialty Procedural areas.PALS required for Pediatric areas with the exception of NICU.Certification in Fetal Monitoring through National Credential Center or through AWOHNN (Intermediate or Advanced) for L&D RNsNewly licensed RNs have 6 months to obtain ACLS and/or PALS, and Fetal Monitoring if L&DIf RN is coming from a non-pediatric background, it is required to obtain PALS within 30 days of taking the position.Note: For added clarification, see Mandatory Education Requirements Grid. Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e., chief complaint, allergies, and/or medications). Monitors and completes Clinical Integration/ Quality Improvement measures with notification to clinician for opportunities within their scope.
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions/infection control guidelines.
- Assists the Physician/ Advanced Practice Professional (APP) with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers routine medications, under Physician/ APP orders or medical group approved standing orders/protocols, which may include but are not limited to immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.

Essential Functions
- Schedules and coordinates surgical cases with corresponding ancillary tests and arrangements by recognizing the differences between various types of procedures and differences between patients' needs within the same procedure.
- Recommends surgery times and dates to physicians to assure that adequate space and time is allowed for completion of the surgery based on knowledge of the procedure. Maintains a thorough understanding of the logistical requirements of each procedure and the individual needs of each physician.
- Assures that the scheduling of each surgical case is conducted and scheduled properly in the appropriate area based on knowledge of the facilities available in each room and within the guidelines established by each area and within their established timeframe.
- Prepares necessary patient reports for physicians and the department based on knowledge of the procedures performed.
- Maintains knowledge of all necessary computer programs used in the scheduling process that may include Cycare, Clinipac, McCormick-Dodge OR Scheduler, and other related systems.
- Reviews future schedules based on physicians' schedules to best utilize available operating rooms and makes recommendations to surgeons based on this information.
- Processes and reviews incoming and outgoing surgery-related documents and forms.
- Provides guidance to patients regarding the logistics of surgery; assists patients with insurance submissions, preliminary financial arrangements, and pre-certification with insurance companies. This position performs all cleaning of patient rooms and/or assigned areas. Works as a member of the environmental service team to ensure the safety, health, and high morale of patients, visitors and staff by helping to provide a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment with minimal interference to others.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs a variety of assigned cleaning tasks, including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming and polishing according to departmental policy and procedures. Must plan the completion of these tasks daily.
2. Empties hampers and transports of soiled linen. Empties trash containers and removes all trash. Empties all medical waste containers, including sharps.
3. Inventories, restocks and replenish supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, hand soap, etcetera, located in all assigned areas of the facility.
4. Maintains cleanliness of departmental equipment and notifies appropriate personnel as repairs become necessary. Protects equipment from damage by proper use; properly logs out and in equipment that has been used.
5. May perform special projects such as: windows washing, wall washing, removing heavily soiled items or furnishings.
6. Responds to questions and requests from patients, staff and visitors. Meets or exceeds goals for customer service satisfaction.
7. Under regular supervision, this position has responsibility at an assigned facility/area only.
