- Engages in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.
- Monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence care outcomes.
- Upholds and promotes a culture of safety.
- Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
- May administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
- Pursues professional development, completes required education, and maintains certifications.
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practices ethical decision-making, respects interdisciplinary roles, and contributes to integrated, unbiased patient care.
- Appropriate delegation to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel (i.e., nurse aides, credentialed medical assistants, etc.).
- Maintains accurate, timely EHR documentation.
- May be required to float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
Certification / Registration / License
- Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty.
- Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where the RN is providing client nursing services
Note: Licensed nurses practicing via telehealth/telenursing/virtual modalities are required to be licensed or hold the privilege to practice in the state(s) where the client(s) is/are located. Licensed nurses are responsible and accountable for knowing, understanding, and practicing in compliance with the laws, rules, regulations, and standards of practice of the state(s) where the client(s) is/are located.
Experience
Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
- Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.

- Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. Is alert, observant, and ethical. Complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations. Maintains Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including but not limited to inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patient valuables management, and thorough contraband searches. Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help. Ensures traffic control, monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Responds to service calls, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents.
- Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation, utilizing use of force when necessary (e.g. conducted electrical weapon (CEW), handcuffing.)
- Performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats.
- Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervenes in accordance with training to situations that have a potential for injury.
- Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Health property and completes timely and accurate reports. Addresses and escalates complaints to the appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation.
- Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all departments and units. Delivers security awareness education to team members to leverage their assistance in the overall security of the site.
- Liaisons with federal, state, and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
- Maintains current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, hemorrhage control (e.g. “STOP the BLEED”), CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (e.g. TASER), to include training on any/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identified in training academy and the Annual Training Plan.
- Assists with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement, valet parking assist, and vehicular assistance.
- Utilizes Interview and Interrogation tactics to uncover information about incidents that have occurred.
- Completes patrolling with a community-oriented approach.
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years of appointment to this role. Recertification is not required.
- For North Carolina teammates, an Armed Guard License issued by NC Private Protective Services maintained through training and competency assessments.
- For Illinois teammates: Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) issued by the Illinois State Police.
- For Wisconsin teammates: Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ)
- For Illinois teammates, must meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and able to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel within 90 days of hire.

Summary:
Performs sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Responsibilities:
Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes images and identifies issues with the quality of images. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure if clinically appropriate.
When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.

This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Effectively uses pharmacy computer systems to investigate and respond to missing medication requests. 13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.

Maintains clean and aseptic conditions in assigned area by vacuuming, scouring, dust mopping, high dusting, making beds, removing trash/linen, washing walls and ceilings.
Using vacuum and materials effectively in daily work.
Use detergents, germicides or other supplies as recommended and follow recommended handling/mixing procedures.
Maintains a clean and neat station, cart, closet and equipment.
Reports needed equipment repairs to the Supervisor.
Logs activities throughout work shift as required paperwork at the end of shift.
Collects soiled linen or distributes clean linen, as needed.
Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.

CONSTANT:
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks to perform cleaning duties.
Standing: With some freedom to alternate between standing and walking.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward at the waist while cleaning, emptying trashcans.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; i.e., vacuuming, dusting, mopping.
Handling: Working primarily with the whole hand while scouring, dusting, obtaining supplies and handling equipment.
FREQUENT:
Pushing, Pulling: To move supply cart with minimal sustained force.
Lifting: To move hideaway beds, cots, box trash, trash bags, linen bags frequently up to 20 lbs. And occasionally in excess of 50 lbs.
Climbing: Up to five flights of stairs, often while wet-mopping, use of ladders.
Kneeling or Crouching: With the freedom to choose which posture.
OCCASIONAL:
Talking: Expressing ideas by means of the spoken word to convey instructions to other workers, either in person or by phone.
Hearing: Ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication with other workers, either in person, by phone, using a beeper or responding to the hospital paging system.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized.
Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move) frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.
VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:
Normal visual acuity is required to maintain accuracy and neatness of work.
INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to maintain satisfactory job performance and a high standard of both courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors despite the stress of a hospital work environment.
Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
Must be able to set and organize one's own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

Description:
This 16-bed intensive care unit provides care to surgical patients and neurosurgical and medical patients with complex needs that require critical care modalities and interventions, and epilepsy monitoring.
All intensive care units are staffed with Intensivists, Registered Nurses, and Health Unit Coordinators. Staff receive support from multidisciplinary team including but not limited to stroke coordinator and neurosurgery team.
SICU/NCCU is an AACN recognized Beacon Unit.
General Summary:
Using the Quality Caring Model, demonstrates acceptable performance and applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of routine patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates fundamental patient/family information to health care team. Identifies and communicates variances from patient goals. Responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care utilizing the nursing process.

What you will need
Required:
