Competently performs routine and specialized radiology procedures to produce quality images to physicians and other health care providers for the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of injury or disease. Works independently, exercising sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to execute safe and precise procedures to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring, and effective communication. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. May also be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or may help orient other staff to the department.Job Description:
EDUCATION:
- Other: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program provided prior to start date
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
- ARRT-American Register of Radiologic Technologist and evidence of application for CRT/DRT provided prior to start date
- OR CRT/DRT-Certified Radiologic Technologist (from state where work is being performed) provided prior to start date
- ARRT-American Register of Radiologic Technologist provided prior to start date
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Upon Hire
- RHF-Radiology Fluoroscopy within 180 Days of hire if required at the affiliate
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- General knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including some experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies.'
- Capable of performing routine radiographic examinations as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
- Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
- Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
- Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
- Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

$30,000 sign on bonus for eligible applicants!!Radiologic Technologists are responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. A Radiologic Technologist performs a full scope of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures and acquires and analyzes data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.
Radiologic Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. Radiologic Technologists prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.
Job Duties:
- Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
- Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
- Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
- Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
- Assisting the licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiologic procedures.
- Performing diagnostic radiographic and noninterpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, including those procedures performed outside of the Radiology Department (i.e., Operating room, Endoscopy, ICU, etc.).
- Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
- Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties., including all procedures in the Operating Room.
- Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Interacts and communicates effectively with members of the coding team and HIM, physicians, CDMP nurses, IT, Quality Operations, Case Management, Patient Access and Business Office.
- Participates and provides good feedback during coding section meetings, coding education in-services, and coder/CDMP meetings. Takes initiative to assist others and shares knowledge with the coding group and business partners on official coding guidelines.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responds promptly to internal and external customer coding/DRG requests. Responds promptly to Business Office requests to code or review coded accounts for accuracy. Identifies and anticipates customer requirements, expectations, and needs. Provides assistance to the leadership team or other coders with coding of the accounts or answering questions from other coders relating to coding and work flows.
- Initiates queries with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses and/or procedures as appropriate, utilizing the established physician query process. Provides assistance to Clinical Documentation Management Program (CDMP) with appropriate MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment, sequencing of diagnoses and procedures, and coding and documentation training.
- Assists with quality assurance (peer) reviews to ensure data integrity and accuracy of coding, identifies opportunities for improvements, and makes recommendations for optimal enhancements.
- Assists Case Management and Patient Access Departments in providing appropriate CPT codes for pre-admission and pre-certification requirements including the inpatient only process. Assists in the development of documentation protocols for physicians. Represents the coding area in Hospital meeting/events when necessary (e.g., Performance Improvement Committees).
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains and achieves the highest standards of coding quality by assigning accurate ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes utilizing an electronic encoder application in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory body guidelines.
- Performs accurate, optimal DRG and APC assignment, in accordance with nationally established rules and guidelines based upon documentation within the medical record.
- Reviews discharge disposition entered by nursing and corrects if necessary in order to achieve the highest quality of entered data.
- Assigns and enters physician identification number and procedure date correctly in the medical record abstracting system. Reviews medical record documentation and abstracts data into the encoder and Electronic Health Record (EHR) abstracting system to determine principal or final diagnosis, co-morbid conditions and complications, secondary conditions and procedures.
- Assists with quality reviews of outpatient or inpatient accounts and/or training of new coders. Complies with the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to official guidelines.
- Aggregates data from reviews and compiles reports for HIM management.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes time effectively. Consistently codes and abstracts at departmental standards of productivity while ensuring accuracy of coding. Ensures work flows and worklists are reviewed or monitored in order to identify old uncoded accounts or problem accounts.
- Assists in making sure coding bill hold goal is met. Maintains coding timeframes within acceptable guidelines by ensuring all work items assigned to the coding queues and worklists are processed in a timely manner.

Oncology 6 RP Unit Overview
The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management.
Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.
Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC®.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred
Certification/Licensure Requirements
Registered Nurse license required
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire
Experience Requirements
18 months RN experience required
Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.
