The mission of the Denial Management Department is to, “Manage denied insurance claims by analyzing medical records, crafting clinical appeals, and collaborating with payers to secure reimbursement.” This team works within Revenue Cycle to identify denial trends, ensure compliance, and minimize financial losses; requiring expertise in coding, medical necessity, and payer regulations.
A successful RN Denial Management Specialist will need to have a minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience, preferably in Case Management and/or Utilization Review as well as an active RN licensure in state worked.
This is a fully remote position and available if you live in the following states only: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY.
In this remote role, candidates must be self-motivated, possess moderate to strong tech skills and be able to meet daily and weekly productivity metrics. You are required to work at least 75% of your shift within 7AM to 5PM AZT/MST. No holidays or weekends. Business hours are Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts with no weekends or holidays.

This position is responsible for providing support to the organization’s Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program by reviewing clinical information and auditing billings to determine appropriateness of charges in accordance with CMS standards. In addition, this position provides oversight for the company’s retrospective denial management process. This position promotes continual efforts to further the understanding of the complexities of federal, state and commercial regulatory coordination and provides leadership assistance to achieve optimal clinical, operational, financial, and satisfaction outcomes across the system as related to reimbursements.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides clinical expertise and oversight in the determination of the clinical appeals and denial management process resulting in significant savings for the organization. This position is a resource to the company’s RAC team in responding to audit requests and serves to expedite the disposition of claims by reviewing charts and preparing appeals. In addition, this position authorizes the appropriate write off of claims that do not meet criteria for hospitalization. This position serves as primary educator for staff and physicians on regulatory compliance measures and in the use of clinical system criteria.
2. Evaluates and intervenes retrospectively for coverage issues, payor outliers, split billing, disallowed charges, incorrect DRG codes, denial and compliance issues.
3. Quantifies, analyzes, and monitors industry/Medicare trends in order to reduce denials and improve the financial outcomes for the organization. Makes recommendations for improvements based on these trends.
4. Serves as a resource and provides leadership assistance to achieve optimal clinical, operational, financial, and satisfaction outcomes across the system as related to federal, state and commercial reimbursements. Acts as a consultant across the organization to facilities with questions related to proper use of DRG codes.
5. Supports change and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the goals/objectives and process improvement activities across the organization as related to federal, state and commercial reimbursements.
6. Corporate based position with no budgetary responsibility. Internally, this position interacts with physicians, clinicians correct and management across the system. Externally, this position interacts with RAC Auditors and other organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Registered Nurse (R.N.) licensure in the state of practice.
Requires experience in federal, state and commercial reimbursements and in reviewing clinical information typically acquired in three years auditing DRG coding and reimbursements. Requires five or more years of clinical nursing and/or related experience. Experience in evaluation techniques, teaching, hospital operations, reimbursement methods, medical staff relations, and the charging/billing process is required. A working knowledge of utilization management and patient services is required. A working knowledge of Medical and third party payor requirements and reimbursement methodologies is required. Highly developed human relation and communication skills are required. Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and time management skills. Must demonstrate ability to work independently as well as effectively with team members.
Must be proficient in the use of office desktop software programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
BSN preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Estimated Pay Range:
$37.14 - $61.90 / hour

Responsibilities include: caring for patients from diagnosis to treatment of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation treatment, symptom management, palliative (supportive) care, clinical trials, and care of some stem cell patients. A high percentage of our patients have a diagnosis of leukemia, but we care for patients with all types of cancer. We are affiliated with MD Anderson Cancer Center and work closely with them to ensure our patients get the best cancer care possible. Many of our patients have extended stays to complete their course of treatment. This allows us to really get to know each patient and their family members, which helps to form a therapeutic relationship/bond. Our nurses find this aspect of the job very rewarding.

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. 3. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
4. Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
5. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient’s response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.

Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. 8. In addition to basic requirements stipulated by Banner Health, this position will be trained and competencies documented on managing care of stem cell transplant/cellular therapy patients. Including, but not limited to: Overview of stem cell transplant and cellular therapy processes/procedures. Recognition of common transplant and cellular therapy complications. Common preparative regimens and high-dosage therapy administration, management of fevers, prophylactic antibiotics, antiviral and antifungal prophylaxis. GVHD prophylactic and /or treatment regimens, and administration guidelines for medication and blood components. Administration of Cellular Therapy products. Care interventions to manage cellular therapy complications, including, but not limited to: Cytokine release syndrome, tumor lysis syndrome, cardiac dysfunction, respiratory distress, neurologic toxicity, renal and hepatic failure and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
9. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information. Also works with clergy to provide spiritual support. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy nursing preferred, but not required. Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Job Summary
Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is made up of a multidisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Mental Health Professionals, Medical Assistants, and Administrative Staff. Responsibilities include collaborating with Behavioral Health Services leadership, the hospital treatment team, patients & their families to maintain focus on safety and high levels of customer service. SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Communicates to nursing department to notify staff of patient transport which includes reviewing patient passport for completeness and understanding for clarification of handoff, checks patient identification using two-step verification, prepares patient for transport identifying IV bags, Foley catheters, or infusion pumps, etc., needing special handling.
- Maintains adequate supply of transport equipment in lobbies and equipment rooms, as appropriate. Clears equipment left on floors, in hallways and unauthorized areas by moving them to designated equipment storage areas or reporting the equipment to the dispatcher, as appropriate.
- Properly disposes of soiled linen on department and/or nursing unit and removes other items left on equipment such as urinals, bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Removes some equipment no longer needed for the patient care from the transport equipment and places it in the soiled utility room, as appropriate.
- Contributes towards improving department scores for patient satisfaction/experience on unit-based scorecard through peer-to-peer accountability and providing timely transports.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reports observations, conditions and problems of patients to licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes. Provides for the privacy of patients and families, keeping the safety of the patient in mind.
- Disinfects equipment before and after each use, allowing sufficient time for the disinfectant to dry thoroughly.
- Transports and stores oxygen tanks in approved holders. In collaboration with clinical staff as appropriate, ensures that oxygen cylinders selected are appropriate for use to reflect the current airflow status. Completes patient handoff when returning to department.
- Operates all transport equipment in a safe manner. Tags equipment needing extensive repairs, takes damaged equipment out of service and delivers appropriately for repair.
- Reports any potential harm or conflicting information to management for input in Patient Safety Net (PSN). Supports initiatives to prevent conditions such as pressure injuries, patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections. Contributes towards improving quality and safety scores on the unit-based scorecard, through peer-to-peer accountability.

Day to day: MRI position is essential to ensuring safe, high-quality patient care within the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) department. This role bridges clinical nursing expertise with the specialized demands of a complex imaging environment, supporting both patient safety and operational efficiency.
Patient Safety Screening :
Conducting thorough **pre-procedure safety screenings** to identify contraindications such as implanted devices, pacemakers, metallic foreign bodies, and other MRI-incompatible items. Reviewing and validating patient medical histories and screening questionnaires in collaboration with the MRI technologist. Identifying patients at elevated clinical risk and escalating concerns appropriately prior to imaging.
Collaboration with MRI Technologist:
The RN – MRI works in close partnership with the MRI technologist to ensure seamless, safe, and efficient patient care by:
Supporting **workflow coordination** to optimize patient throughput and minimize delays.
Communicating clinical findings and patient status updates in real time.
Serving as a clinical resource for the technologist when patient conditions require nursing assessment or intervention .
Patient Monitoring:
Continuous clinical oversight is required throughout MRI procedures, particularly for sedated, contrast-receiving, or medically complex patients. The RN – MRI provides:
Hemodynamic and physiological monitoring** before, during, and after imaging procedures.
Administration and monitoring of IV contrast agents, sedation, or anxiolytic medications as ordered.
Rapid recognition and response to adverse reactions, including contrast reactions or changes in patient condition.
Documentation of clinical assessments and interventions in accordance with nursing standards.
Patient Transport:
Safe patient transport is a critical component of the MRI workflow. The RN – MRI ensures:
Safe transfer and transport** of patients to and from the MRI suite, including those arriving from inpatient units, the Emergency Department, or ICU settings. Verification that all transport equipment (IV pumps, oxygen delivery devices, monitoring equipment) is **MRI-safe** prior to entering the scan room. This position performs prescribed specialized radiographic procedures as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Medical Radiologic Technical Board of Examiners (MRTBE). This position ensures optimal care/treatment to all patient populations that are cared for in an operative setting.
The incumbent utilizes specialized training within specific surgical settings and possesses dynamic ability to adapt quickly and professionally, with minimal direction, in accordance with ALARA (“as low as (is) reasonably achievable”) guidelines.
Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares for surgical procedures by setting up the imaging cart (if applicable) in accordance with each OR procedure, check laterality, uploads all patient information, ensures equipment is functioning as expected, and communicates with OR team regarding special imaging needs. Plans for upcoming surgical case needs by being included in OR team planning and all communications regarding specific case needs.
2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions, fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
3. Performs prescribed radiographic procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols, as well as under the guidelines of the accrediting agency ARRT and any applicable state licensing agencies. Understands the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
4. Performs imaging exams with specialty equipment such as Hybrid OR, O-Arm, C-Arms, Mini C-Arms (peds, ortho), Flat plates for any other studies wanted (KUB’s, etc. for retained foreign bodies). Ensures Imaging C-Arm, fixed or mobile, are fully cleaned following each case and in accordance with infection prevention standards.
5. Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
6. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Proactively communicates with the surgical team, if and when, there are equipment issues of any kind so that schedules may be swiftly modified and the impact to patients and the surgical team is minimized.
7. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety policies and holds any person within the OR suite to the same radiation safety policies prior to ionizing radiation being emitted. Educates physicians, resident physicians and medical students on the importance of radiation safety and the importance of dosimetry while inside an active operative setting. Reports any identified radiation safety risks to the Radiation Safety Officer immediately.
8. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
9. Facilitates educational and onboarding support for new intra-operative technologists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Requires national certification American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable. BLS certification is required.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with two years of related experience.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, ability to analyze data and solve problems.
