Job Duties:
In this role, the RN will be responsible and accountable for direct comprehensive nursing care for the patient from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse will function as an on-shift team member providing direct patient care to meet the needs of patients, families, and co-workers.
About the Unit:
The Innovation Unit, also known as 3AC, is a 44-bed medical-surgical unit that pilots new ideas for the hospital. Nurses will care for a wide range of medical diagnosis and conditions. The Innovation Unit serves as a wonderful opportunity for new graduate LPN and RNs to start nursing careers and is complimented by seasoned nurses who share their expertise.

$21.85 - $32.80Major Responsibilities:- Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, completes activities of daily living, vital sign completion and blood glucose monitoring.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in establishing a plan of care based upon an analysis of health, education and developmental needs and patient/family preferences.
- Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient response to interventions and effectively communicates observations and patient needs to the Registered Nurse.
- Develops delegation skills appropriate to Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants and technical roles on unit.
- Administers medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The level of clinical judgment and proficiency of skill must be evaluated prior to medication administration.
- Manages an increased number of patients and incorporates principles of time management into shift routine.
- Demonstrates an ability to collect and synthesize relevant patient data accurately identifying patient status and needs.
- In emergency situations and under appropriate supervision of a Registered Nurse, participates in activities they have demonstrated knowledge and skill in.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

- Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
- Provides basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
- Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
- Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy - butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, etc., with demonstrated competency and under clinical supervision.
- Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
- Participates in patient centered initiatives, care management, performance and quality improvement activities.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and

Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
Provides basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy - butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, etc., with demonstrated competency and under clinical supervision.
Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
Participates in patient centered initiatives, care management, performance and quality improvement activities.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. 2. Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of are. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient’s status.
3. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
4. Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
5. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
6. Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
7. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participating in professional organizations.
8. In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department.
9.Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information. Also works with clergy to provide spiritual support. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. - Provides radiology reports and/or radiographic images to staff, physicians, patients and/or family upon request. Files, retrieves, and releases health information records and films. Compiles film jackets/discs and completes required forms/documentation.

Job Description:
The Nursing Graduate works under the direct line-of-sight supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent also orients to the RN assignment, excluding independent nursing care. This position may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of the licensed RN.
The Nursing Graduate job can be utilized for up to 12 weeks while employees are in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and are working toward preparing, testing, and passing the State Boards examination (obtaining an RN license). After that 12-week period, or if the Nursing Graduate fails the State Board exam a second time, the employee can no longer remain in the Nurse Graduate job. These employees can apply for any open jobs they qualify for, including jobs requiring a certification the employee currently holds (i.e., CNA, etc.). Failure to either pass boards or to be hired into another job will result in termination.
Registered Nurse graduates must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care (including direct patient care supervised by a licensed RN).

7. Contributes to ONN program and role development, implementation, and evaluation within the healthcare system and community.

9. Functions as the primary nursing contact for care delivered within the physician practice setting.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures a safe and effective working environment; monitors and/or revises the department safety plan and/or any specific accreditation/regulatory required safety guidelines, including infection control principles. Monitors and confirms staff maintain their required credentials that demonstrate competency per accrediting agency or department guidelines as applicable.
- Uses and optimizes information systems to enhance operations; supports entity-specific performance improvement and data management/analysis functions.

- Monitors key clinical operational indicators including quality metrics such as in basket utilization, clinical close rate, etc. Assesses current performance and develops action plans to achieve optimal performance.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists in the development of department budget and ensures that the department operates in a cost effective manner. Manages/audits department expenses within approved budget parameters, ensuring that the department meets the budgeted/flex revenue and/or expense targets on a monthly and annual basis. Develops staffing plans and schedules to meet department/patient care needs that reflect understanding of the importance of cost-effectiveness.
- Implements department strategies to achieve financial target and staffing needs, developing others to do the same, through optimizing productivity, supply/resource efficiency, minimizing incidental overtime and overtime percentage, and other areas according to department specifications.
- Utilizes monitoring and trending data to provide appropriate cost-effective patient care which is in concert with the philosophy of the Houston Methodist. Assures encounters are reviewed, claims created and manages workflow dashboards.
- Monitors charge capture patient encounters and co-payment collections to ensure that appropriate procedures are adhered to and that accurate information is being collected and submitted. Manages petty cash batches and deposits. Reconciles cash daily and keeps appropriate documentation and/or log.
- Assures accurate timekeeping and payroll for all department employees. Identifies and reduces incidental overtime. Manages all reporting and record-keeping functions within their span of control.

- Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve department operations or other department-specific measures by leading unit projects and/or other department/system directed shared governance activities. This is a flexible PRN opportunity with no scheduled weekends or holidays, offering the ability to make a meaningful impact on patients and families during their hospice journey.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive face-to-face hospice recertification visits in patients' homes, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities.
Perform detailed head-to-toe assessments and evaluate disease progression and functional decline.
Review medical records, clinical documentation, and hospice plans of care.
Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation supporting hospice eligibility and recertification requirements.
Identify and clearly articulate changes in condition and decline during the previous benefit period.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team, including:

- Guide the planning, implementation, and delivery of digital health pilots and solutions, partnering with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align on approach, timelines, risks, requirements, testing, training, go-live, stabilization, and post-launch optimization to support adoption and operational performance.
- Conduct external benchmarking, market scans, literature and industry research, and vendor/partner engagement to evaluate emerging capabilities, compare leading practices, inform solution selection, support demos and RFP processes, and help manage deliverables, performance, and issue resolution.
- Develop clear, decision-oriented documentation and implementation artifacts, including research summaries, benchmark findings, recommendations, workflow analyses, requirements, roadmaps, and governance approaches to support adoption, enhancements, delivery planning, and change management.
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess user needs, adoption, experience, outcomes, efficiency, and ROI; synthesize internal findings and external benchmarks into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership and key stakeholders.
- Advise stakeholders on alignment with institutional strategy and ensure solutions are evaluated and implemented in accordance with applicable policies, regulatory requirements, and risk considerations, including privacy, HIPAA, security, clinical safety, and data stewardship.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of primary and secondary research methods used to identify digital health opportunities, including stakeholder interviews, workshop facilitation, workflow observation, process mapping, opportunity mapping, landscape assessment, external benchmarking, and gap analysis; ability to synthesize findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Skill in eliciting, documenting, and managing business, functional, and non-functional requirements; ability to translate requirements into workflows, user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
- Skill in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; ability to define success metrics and evaluate outcomes related to adoption, user experience, operational efficiency, and return on investment.
- Knowledge of end-to-end digital health delivery methodologies, including human-centered design, applied research, prototyping, pilot execution, implementation, post-go-live optimization, change adoption, and benefits realization.
- Knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, vendor landscapes, peer institution practices, and evolving care and operating models; ability to translate external insights into relevant digital health use cases, strategic options, and implementation recommendations.
- Skill in written, visual, and verbal communication; ability to tailor messages for frontline staff, operational stakeholders, and executive audiences.
- Skill in managing complex cross-functional projects and programs from discovery through delivery, including charter development, project planning, scheduling, status reporting, dependency tracking, risk and issue management, vendor coordination, implementation readiness, and adoption support.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple concurrent initiatives with strong follow-through, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Skill in stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, and consensus-building; ability to negotiate scope, timelines, and expectations, and resolve issues through root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving.
- Knowledge of digital health solution readiness requirements, including compliance, accessibility, health literacy, privacy, security, data stewardship, and WCAG standards; skill in using relevant collaboration and delivery tools and methodologies such as Microsoft 365, Smartsheet, Agile, and Lean UX; ability to mentor others and drive continuous process improvement.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business, or related field preferred.
- 8 – 10 years of experience in business and/or healthcare required.
- Proven experience shaping solutions for complex business, clinical, and operational challenges preferred.
- Experience leading workshops to align leaders on outcomes and tradeoffs and running hands‑on user research to test assumptions preferred.
- Experience advising stakeholders on prioritizing and sequencing work, and making realistic decisions based on feasibility, risk, and value preferred.
