The Nursing Supervisor works directly with the Manager and other members of the leadership team providing supervisory coverage to the nursing unit and other patient care areas. The Supervisor works to develop nursing staff including education, competency, performance evaluation and correction, and resolution of issues related to patient safety and customer service. The Supervisor must be knowledgeable regarding hospital and nursing policies and procedures and be able to practice independent judgement.Additional Job Description:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Obtain Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within two (2) years of hire.
2. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
4. State criminal background check, and federal, if applicable, as required for state department of health (e.g. PA DOH, OH DOH, MD DOH, WV DHHR) regulated areas based on physical work location.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Two (2) years nursing experience
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Manages personnel to ensure the availability of an appropriately credentialed, clinically competent, well-developed cohesive work force to meet patient care needs.
2. Advises the Director/Manager on the hiring, retention, interviewing and recruitment of staff.
3. Functions as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving, individual and group goal orientation, appropriate delegation of departmental activities and fostering team building through individual coaching and counseling, regular attendance at staff meetings, annual performance appraisals, and active participation in the activities of the department.
4. Performs on-going written goal setting, peer review, and performance reviews according to hospital policy. Provides on-going feedback to employees concerning job performance. Coaches and counsels employees, under the direction of the Director/Manager.
5. Using available data, makes appropriate clinical decisions regarding complex, predictable and unpredictable situations affecting patient care, medical-legal issues, bed coordination, unit staffing, etc.
6. Assists staff in nursing and other departments to resolve problems that impact the delivery of patient care during the off-shifts. Collaborates with the Charge Nurse and Unit Manager as necessary. Keeps the House Supervisor and Director/Manager informed regarding the situation and its outcome as appropriate.
7. Assesses the immediate staffing needs based on consultation with the charge nurses and/or House Supervisor
8. Engages in fiscal activities in order to ensure the availability of supplies, equipment, and human resources to meet patient care needs in a timely cost effective manner.
9. Assures the most economical utilization of time, materials and resources through the review of workflow and staffing patterns in order to achieve optimal productivity and to provide cost effective staffing patterns that ensure appropriate utilization of staff and skill mix to provide patient care.
10. Maintains effective communication with Medical staff, patients, staff and other departments as necessary to assure identification of problems and provide problem resolution in support of the hospital’s mission of quality patient care delivery.
11. Through daily shift rounds, assesses patient/family satisfaction issues and takes appropriate action to resolve.
12. Supports and assists with service recovery initiative involving patients, families, and all other customers.
13. Assures the adherence of all standards and policies as set forth by WVUH and the accrediting bodies for the purposes of licensure, regulation and accreditation.
14. Assists Director/Manager in timely follow-up of incident/event manager reports.
15. In conjunction with the Clinical Preceptor, facilitates the professional development of personnel. Oversees and participates in the orientation, training, and continuing education of the staff (departmental and interdepartmental) and other health related personnel.
16. Directs and monitors the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students and orientees. Assures continuous personal and professional growth of staff through attendance at workshops, seminars, giving in-services, and monitoring staff orientation plans as applicable.
17. Improves and maintains management skills by participating in self-development activities such as seminars, workshops, classes and literature review.
18. Participates in outreach activities in the community in order to educate and/or promote good relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms.
2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.
3. Visual acuity must be within normal range.
4. Hearing within normal range is required (i.e. to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.)

- Demonstrates knowledge in various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each and can conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation.
- Administers therapeutic procedures, understanding the purpose and benefits, and possible effects associated with each. Performs diagnostic procedures as outlined in policy.
- Initiates, monitors and maintains mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilators and is aware of the critical care duties and effects of such therapy.
- Independently evaluates current therapies using appropriate judgment and protocols, making proper recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs.
- Documents therapy and results as required by hospital, department and regulatory agencies. Communicates information to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
- Initiates, conducts and modifies respiratory care techniques in an emergency setting. Performs and evaluates blood sampling analysis with a thorough understanding of the values, and the importance and treatment of abnormal results.
- Works independently in all patient care areas and assists co-workers with patient care whenever possible. Is proficient in the electronic medical records and its interface with the Respiratory Care Department.
- Follows departmental safety guidelines. Completes all regulatory requirements. Completes annual proficiency evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. Currently licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner/Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State in which they work. Basic Life Support for healthcare providers thru the American Heart Association required. Advanced certification per facility/department.
Education Required:
- Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy required. Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy required (or equivalent experience may be considered). BA/BS or higher preferred.
Experience Required:
- For Free-Standing Emergency Department: 2 years critical care experience required or a bachelor’s or higher in Respiratory Therapy with 1-year critical care experience. For all other areas, new graduates with RRT credentials or experienced Respiratory Therapists with RRT credentials are eligible for this job code.
- This is Clinical Ladder position: Advancement complies with the requirements of the Respiratory Therapist Clinical Ladder. Experience, approved certification, and education as outlined in Respiratory Therapist Clinical Ladder.

- Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
Demonstrate ability to provide comprehensive management of end-stage organ diseases and oversee the patient's journey through the transplant process.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to facilitate living donation/transplantation and will utilize that knowledge to coordinate the care of the living donor for evaluation and live donation. Identifies appropriate live donor candidate upon referral and interacts with appropriate staff.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to coordinate the care of the transplant recipient in the outpatient setting to achieve optimal physical, social and emotional rehabilitation. Identifies and responds to recipient/family/legal guardian’s educational, psychosocial and economic needs in post-transplant phase. Reinforces post-operative teaching if applicable. Collects and reviews data pertinent to recipient’s health and organ function. Communicates lab data and diagnostic results to transplant physician/healthcare provider. Implements changes in drug/treatment therapy as ordered by physician(s) and/or health care provider. Arranges for consultations, diagnostic procedures and hospitalization when indicated. Reinforces and facilitates need for well care (i.e., periodic mammography, pap smears and colonoscopy). Ensures recipient is screened annually for malignancy. Communicates with the regulatory bodies and collects the appropriate data necessary for decision-making regarding organ acceptance/rejection for transplant. Shares necessary information about the donor organ, including ABO compatibility, with the transplant surgeon/physician. Reviews potential recipient’s current medical status to determine eligibility for transplant. Assesses need for and obtains results of final cytotoxic cross match. Facilitates admission or transfer of patient to the transplant. Arranges any preoperative procedures required (i.e., dialysis). Notifies transplant team of pending surgical procedure. Identifies and responds to the psychosocial and economic needs of the transplant candidate/family/legal guardian during evaluation. Demonstrates knowledge of, and compliance with, policies and listing requirements. Informs and educates patient/family/legal guardian at time of listing. Ensures patient and referring physician are informed in writing of transplant listing, denial or postponement. Provides and maintains comprehensive documentation of evaluation process and makes appropriate referrals to specialists.
Interprets serological results of the potential transplant candidate and their implications for transplant. Obtains recipient blood type, tissue typing and cytotoxic antibodies according to transplant center protocol. Identifies possible co-morbidities in the transplant candidate and evaluates as indicated. Identifies absolute and relative contraindications to transplantation. Ensures patient understands risk and benefit of immunizations required prior to transplantation.

Job Description:
The Nursing Graduate works under the direct line-of-sight supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent also orients to the RN assignment, excluding independent nursing care. This position may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of the licensed RN.
The Nursing Graduate job can be utilized for up to 12 weeks while employees are in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and are working toward preparing, testing, and passing the State Boards examination (obtaining an RN license). After that 12-week period, or if the Nursing Graduate fails the State Board exam a second time, the employee can no longer remain in the Nurse Graduate job. These employees can apply for any open jobs they qualify for, including jobs requiring a certification the employee currently holds (i.e., CNA, etc.). Failure to either pass boards or to be hired into another job will result in termination.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
3. Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
4. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable in accordance with established policies if applicable.
5. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.
6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to the radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
8. Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program.
National Certification required from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT(R) or ARRT(NM)) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB (CNMT)).
State Licensure required for AZ, WY, NV; includes Radiography or Nuclear Medicine and CT license prior to hire (not required in Colorado).
Advanced Certification in Computed Tomography required within 18 months of hire from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT(CT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board – NMTCB (CT).
Certification for BLS is required.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with two years of experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Estimated Pay Range:
$32.09 - $53.48 / hour
