Job Description:
Phlebotomist II is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement in an experienced manner.
Hours: PRN
Essential Functions
- Phlebotomist II is responsible for accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment. This position functions as part of a dynamic and engaging team with a workload that ranges from fast-paced hospital settings and high/low volume clinics. Caregivers in this role will have valuable experience and knowledge that brings a higher level of expertise to laboratory services’ phlebotomy.
- The Phlebotomist II performs specimen collection using many different techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections. These caregivers collect specimens from patients of various acuities, such as Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient – including newborns, patients in intensive care, and all other areas of the hospital. They are at the forefront of patient care and adhere to and enforce the standards for laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
- Adherence to personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, including but not limited to gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
- Intermountain Caregivers in this role will communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrate empathy during every interaction. They will also have opportunities for growth and developing skills such as:
- Patient or client registrations
- Participation in CODE response teams
- Training as a clinical coach or preceptor
- Specimen Processing – send out testing, resulting or referral testing
- Participation in special projects

- This position requires organizational skills, as well as the ability to navigate multiple computer systems, work well as a member of a team, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Candidates applying for a phlebotomy role are resilient and can manage stressful situations professionally.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma, Preferred.
- Twelve months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor, Preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

3. Prepares WVU Medicine standard consent form, notice of privacy practice and/or other necessary paperwork related to registration and presents to patient/family/legal guardian for signatures. Obtains electronic signature for consent to treat and patient financial obligations.
4. Collects deposits/co-payments/deductibles/patient liability payments when applicable, provides patient receipt and documents payment in the registration/billing systems.
5. Prepares armband for patient identification.
6. Balances daily receipts and cash drawer for patient payments as needed. Follows up on accounts as indicated by system flags (courtesy dismissal/comments/red stickers).
7. May initiate various screenings and obtains all pertinent information for coverage and completes appropriate paperwork.
8. Performs medical necessity checks and completes Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) provides high-quality, patient-centered care as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. POSITION SUMMARY: The Advance Practice Professional (APP) is an individual with clinical skills and medical skills, with an expertise in telemedicine. The APP completes comprehensive patient health evaluations (including biological, social and psychological assessments, co-morbid conditions, overall disposition, and guardian(s)); in collaboration with the appropriate clinical/faculty team. The APP assesses, and coordinates the educational and psychosocial needs of the patient and caretakers via telemedicine technology, taking into account the privacy of the patient as it relates to the parent(s), guardians, and the designated caregivers. The APP develops and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, and coordinates discharge planning/and or follow-up (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students and performs diagnostic procedures and therapeutic procedures.
Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to.
Note: Provides onsite clinical services to patients at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and supports affiliated system hospitals through telemedicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing.
2.National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
3.Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
4.American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the
department.
EXPERIENCE:
1.Telemedicine experience preferred.
2.Eligible new graduates will be considered.

9.Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for patients, which includes teaching, discharge planning and necessary referral to other members of the health care team as necessary.
10.Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
11.Identifies unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.

Position Qualifications:

About the Department
Our Infusion Clinic provides a variety of treatments to both Oncology and Non-Oncology patients. For our Oncology patients, these treatments include chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, IV hydration, blood products, Injections, Iron, phlebotomies, Bone Marrow Biopsies, and other infusion therapies related to supportive care for these patients. These treatments are provided to both our Hematology-Oncology Patients and our Gynecology Oncology Patients. Many of these patients may be on a Clinical Research trial or receiving combined modality treatment with Radiation Therapy.
We also support many other specialties such as Rheumatology, Neurology, OB, Huron Gastro, Primary Care providers, etc and the specialized care required for these patients.
Our Infusion Clinic is supported by our Infusion Nurses, Medical Assistants, Infusion Schedulers, Nurse Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and Infusion Manager.
Our Infusion Nurses receive their Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification through ONS (Oncology Nursing Society). We provide training and education for both the novice and experienced Infusion Nurse. We also provide yearly recertification for our Chemotherapy Certified Nurses.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa.

Job Description Summary:
The pool nurse is a registered professional who plans and renders nursing care according to the physical of the patient. The expectation is that the nurse will deliver appropriate care based on the admission level of patient within his/her assignment. He/she gives direct patient care and maintains clinical records reflecting the patient’s condition, medication, treatment, examination, and progress according to the Delaware Nursing Practice Act and St. Francis Healthcare's policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Adheres to hospital nursing practice standards, demonstrates appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Completes a Nursing Assessment form on each patient within 24 hours.
- Identifies patient needs based on objective data and follows through with appropriate documentation.
- Implements appropriate Nursing actions to each patient that needs to be identified.
- Makes decisions that reflect both knowledge of facts and sound judgment.
- Discusses with and includes patient and/or family significant other about planned patient care and expected outcomes and documents same.
- Identifies and appropriately utilizes multidisciplinary approach to facilitate delivery of patient care.
- Instructs and documents patient in follow-up care/activities in preparation for transfer/discharge.
- Evaluates the patient’s/significant other’s understanding of instructions.
- Gives written instructions and materials to patients and families.
- Participates in discharge rounds.
- Reviews preventative health measures to patient and family. Documents understanding of instructions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- ASN Required, BSN Preferred, from an accredited school of nursing
- Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Delaware
- BLS required; Must obtain ACLS within 3 months of hire (for PCU)
- Previous acute care nursing experience required
