Job Description:
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Department/Position Overview:
This is a 41-bed Level III Trauma ED with 6 beds dedicated to a lock down psychiatric screening and treatment area. We are a stroke certified ED and receive STEMI and psychiatric patients. The ED treats about 150 patients per day with a dedicated radiology suite in the ED for plain film and CT imaging. We have a diverse nursing and ED Tech team.
Education:
ADN required, BSN or higher preferred.
Certification:
Virginia or compact multistate RN (Registered Nurse) license in good standing.
BLS
TNCC preferred
Experience:
RN Experienced in a hospital setting.
RN Experience in the ED highly preferred.

- Requests and retrieves medical records from Health Information Management for retrospective utilization review or quality assurance.
- Delivers routine regulatory notices to patients within the required timeframes, ensuring proper documentation to support the delivery of government-mandated forms or payer communication.
- Performs clerical tasks to support care management services, including preparing and printing reports, scheduling appointments, distributing and communicating requests, retrieving message (phone, fax, email, and mail), and scanning or copying documents as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Ensures that all services provided meet with the facility’s needs and expectations. Devises action plans to correct negative variances. May maintain a competent and motivated staff through proper selection, training, evaluating and termination, as necessary.
2. Establishes, implements and administers departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures; conducts ongoing review of hospital policies, procedures and guidelines to identify infection prevention and control discrepancies and implements revisions as necessary. Provides ongoing assessment of performance, analyzes infection outcome data, and identifies performance improvement opportunities or trends. Conducts high level assessments, gathers information and collaborates with the appropriate process owner(s) to identify opportunities for improvement. Analyzes data for administrative and clinical decision making.
3. Develops and coordinates the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility. Implements the program by formulating, establishing and evaluating policies and procedures relating to patient care infection prevention and control measures throughout the facility that ensure compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, CMS and other county, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
4. Serves as a resource and subject matter expert to staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community for infection prevention and control. Initiates epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infections and single cases of unusual infection. Serves as a subject matter expert for the facility and system related to emerging infections, public health crisis and emergency management.
5. Directs and assists in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection prevention committee, medical staff committees, medical executive committee and the facility’s administration and other committees as needed.
6. Responsibility for infection prevention at large healthcare entities (>100 beds) and contribution to system-level infection prevention activities. Internal customers include all assigned entity administrators, physicians, staff and corporate administrators, leadership team and staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Perform daily/weekly vehicle and rig checks; maintain, restock and clean unit after each run.
- Manage EMS inventory; maintain pagers, radios and other equipment; report discrepancies and maintenance needs.

- Complete patient care documentation after each call and in the Emergency Department as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the Critical Care Paramedic scope of practice, including all clinical procedures, patient care standards, and legal/regulatory requirements governing emergency medical services. This knowledge should encompass state and local protocols, documentation standards, infection control practices, and the ability to apply these principles effectively in both pre-hospital and hospital settings. Additionally, the Critical Care Paramedic should demonstrate proficiency in recognizing limitations of the role and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Graduate of an approved Paramedic course with a current Iowa and/or Illinois Paramedic certification, or an Iowa RN Exemption and/or Illinois PHRN certification, based on role and service area.
- If working in the Genesis Market, need Iowa and Illinois within 120 days of hire or transfer.
- Iowa Critical Care Paramedic endorsement required.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, meeting all organizational motor vehicle safety standards.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) - 100 (preferred).
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) provider (preferred). Advance Medical Life Support (AMLS) provider (preferred). Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within 6 months of hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable. Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent within 1 year of hire.

6. Participate in the development, implementation, supervision, and review of the policies and procedures that encompass radiation therapy equipment.
7. Verify that all external beam radiation therapy equipment meets the manufacturer’s specifications and establish baseline performance values for new or refurbished equipment or for equipment following major repair.
8. Perform routine review of all patient treatment plans which includes a review of patient and dosimetric data as well as beam and machine parameters.
9. Participate in weekly department-wide chart rounds to ensure the fulfillment of the prescription and review any changes in dose, patient setup(s), and simulation.
10. Perform a weekly review of each patient’s record to ensure accuracy of calculations, appropriateness of charting data, and fulfillment of the physician’s written prescription.
11. Perform an end of treatment review of the patient’s entire record to affirm the fulfillment of the initial and/or revised prescription dose.
12. Perform special medical physics consults as ordered by the radiation oncologist(s).
