Caregivers in this role will become skilled at performing venipuncture, capillary sticks and other basic phlebotomy skills before advancing into a Phlebotomist I position within Intermountain Health. (Phlebotomist I job description available upon request).
Phlebotomist Student will attend a four-week course, including two weeks in the classroom and two-week externship. Students will be taught specific care and interventions for all patient populations and will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care for all age groups during their externship. Before completing the certification course, students will successfully complete a minimum of 125 venipunctures, 10 capillary sticks, and four blood culture collections.

All phlebotomy caregivers adhere to patient identification and specimen labeling policies and procedures with 100% accuracy. Caregivers completing this phlebotomy course will be at the forefront of patient care and enforce the standards for laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
