SUMMARY:
The School-Based Clinical Therapist provides care coordination to students with behavioral health challenges, outpatient individual therapy to a small group of students best served in the school setting, and education on behavioral health topics to school personnel.
Therapist will coordinate with schools to understand the needs of students and families, the schools’ systems and resources for supporting students, and the barriers to behavioral health care that this position can support. When appropriate, the therapist may provide outpatient individual therapy to children and youth directly. The clinician’s primary responsibilities are to assess a student’s needs, support the student and family in getting connected to appropriate services, and follow-up to ensure that services were received. The overall goal of the program is to establish collaborative and responsive relationships between schools, families, and community providers that promote coordination of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a resource to the school sites in the CCBHC catchment area by providing mental health consultation, referral, and care coordination to address student behavioral and/or emotional needs.
- Meets with local school representatives to understand their needs and identify ways in which the therapist can best assist in supporting the behavioral health needs of the school community.
- Fosters collaboration amongst School Districts and Community Partners by providing information, referrals, and linkages social service and mental health agencies to address student and family needs
- Provides support and consultation for student threat/risk assessments, including conducting suicide risk assessments, participating on threat assessment teams, developing safety/re-entry plans, and providing referrals and linkages to resources, as needed.
- Demonstrates understanding of child and adolescent development.
- Maintains current knowledge of diagnostic and treatment strategies that are effective for specialized populations; uses and seeks out clinical information to improve competency in treating behavioral health problems in assigned population.
- Provides outpatient individual, family, and group therapy using best practice treatment strategies effective for diagnostic needs of children and prescribed in individual treatment plan.
- Completes assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries according to clinical standards and required timelines.
- When requested, participates in the MTSS referral process to assist in coordinating student supports.
- Promotes parent engagement in addressing the social and emotional needs of students.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of and facilitates the development of policies and practices related to suicide prevention and intervention.
- Follows-up with families and schools to ensure that student was connected to appropriate services; assists in establishing care coordination between the school and provider(s).
- Maintains current knowledge of available community resources relevant to population and how to access them as needed.
- Maintains frequent communication and collaborative relationships with client, colleagues, and community providers to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintains performance standards according to professional competencies and fidelity to the evidence-based treatment models.
- Tracks and assesses data on interventions used in school district to evaluate effectiveness of programs.
- Attends supervision, agency and team meetings as scheduled.
- Maintains detailed, accurate, and timely documentation in medical record.
- Enhances professional expertise through educational activities and trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field eligible for mental health licensure.
- Associate-level mental health license (LCSW, LMHC-A, LMFT-A) with RI Department of Health or ability to obtain by time of hire.
- At least 2-years of clinical experience working with targeted population or in a school or mental health setting preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong verbal communication and social relationship skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.
- Analytical skills necessary to evaluate clients’ mental health needs and to formulate and implement a treatment plan

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager (or designee), and within hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the professional registered nurse acts as a patient advocate in the application of the nursing process. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognizes and reports deviations from patient or established norms. Identifies deviations from established norms not related to chief patient’s complaints. Reports patient’s responses to treatment(s), and documents nursing interventions. Provides basic comfort and support according to patient needs. Fosters patient(s) and family participation in achieving optimum level of patient’s functioning and performing activities of daily living. Sets priorities in individual patient’s assignments. Seeks guidance and resources, when necessary, in management of patient care. Identifies and assesses emergency situations. Initiates appropriate response and intervention. Plans for potential needs during emergency situations. Defines nursing diagnosis and expected patient’s outcomes.
May modify nursing plan of care based on diagnosis and/or outcomes. Documents on appropriate nursing assessment forms. Implements nursing interventions and evaluates based on patient’s outcomes. Modifies plan or care, accordingly, including documentation. The Registered Nurse maintains knowledge of contemporary, professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act. Attends training and retraining, as needed, to maintain current knowledge of hospital and patient’s care practices and procedures. Utilizes established protocols and collaborates with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and attainment of desired patient outcomes. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. Maintains safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Demonstrates self-direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Provides functional guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other licensed personnel, as required. May assume shift charge responsibility on an assigned unit. Responsibility includes maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities with equitable assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, associate’s degree in nursing required, Baccalaureate in nursing preferred. Summary:
The Director of Quality and Safety reports to the Brown University Health Vice President of Quality & Safety. Responsible for completion of clerical skills needed for efficient patient flow:
Exhibits appropriate use of medical terms and abbreviations.
Organizes, prioritizes workload based on patient, unit/clinic needs.
Copies charts for admission and disassembles charts for discharge according to hospital guidelines. Files reports in charts accurately and maintains medical record. Faxes chart documents for admitted patients to appropriate unit.
Answers phones and intercom, using phone and intercom etiquette, and notifies appropriate staff.
Utilizes hospital computer systems accurately, to execute orders, retrieve data and generate reports. Reports computer and equipment malfunctions to the help desk.
Accurately uses all existing computer systems (Invision, LifeLinks, MedHost, Bed Board, MAK MAR, Hospital Capacity System (HCS) and/or any new systems necessary to carry out job duties.
Arranges for necessary equipment delivery as needed.
Follows up on diagnostic tests ordered and documents booking in the computer under Date/Time Scheduled Tests including any required preparations and holds trays or makes NPO accordingly.
Orders stationary and office supplies as appropriate. Maintains and stocks the A-Z file.
Faxes completed Authorization for Use of Protected Health Information form to other health care providers; receives faxed information and files in the patient's record. Faxes other forms as needed.
Takes responsibility for educational updates by attending education sessions and accessing the Net Learning website. Meets and maintains competencies measured by annual mandatory competency check and mandatory/safety education.
Reports unsafe situations to the Registered Nurse or to the Clinical Manager.
Promotes safety on the unit.
Adheres to established RIH/Unit standards, policies and procedures (absenteeism, tardiness, badging, mandatory education, fire, safety, infection control and credentialing, HIPAA, and confidentiality guidelines).
Pages physicians and others via the hospital page system, computer alpha paging, and the hospital emergency operator to page codes.
Coordinate Continuity of Care form copies accordingly. Fax to Home Care Services when indicated. Files copies in medical record. Prints copies from Life Links if necessary.
Obtains copies of medical records as indicated.
Performs all aspects of the Secretaryide role accurately, including but not restricted to, patient types codes, discharge disposition codes, observation and inpatient status, patient services charges, calls consults when indicated, updates dietary rounds reports.
Understands and is able to perform appropriate I.S. downtime procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school graduate or its equivalent preferred.
Entry level credentialing of secretarial and nursing assistant skills.
Current Rhode Island registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

SUMMARY:
Reports to the Clinical Manager and under the general direction and supervision of the professional staff, assists in providing care to Emergency Department patients and their families from arrival to departure. Performs a variety of clerical and patient care assistive duties as a member of the Health Care Team.

Observes IV rate of flow and extremities for signs of infiltration and/or phlebitis.
