SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager (or designee), and within hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the professional registered nurse acts as a patient advocate in the application of the nursing process. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognizes and reports deviations from patient or established norms. Identifies deviations from established norms not related to chief patient’s complaints.
Reports patient’s responses to treatment(s), and documents nursing interventions.
Provides basic comfort and support according to patient needs. Fosters patient(s) and family participation in achieving optimum level of patient’s functioning and performing activities of daily living.
Sets priorities in individual patient’s assignments. Seeks guidance and resources, when necessary, in management of patient care.
Identifies and assesses emergency situations.
Initiates appropriate response and intervention. Plans for potential needs during emergency situations.
Defines nursing diagnosis and expected patient’s outcomes.
May modify nursing plan of care based on diagnosis and/or outcomes.
Documents on appropriate nursing assessment forms.
Implements nursing interventions and evaluates based on patient’s outcomes. Modifies plan or care accordingly, including documentation.
The Registered Nurse maintains knowledge of contemporary, professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act.
Attends training and retraining, as needed, to maintain current knowledge of hospital and patient’s care practices and procedures.
Utilizes established protocols and collaborates with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and attainment of desired patient outcomes.
Participates in quality improvement processes and risk management activities.
Attends unit-based, or hospital meetings to facilitate patient care management.
Functions in a cooperative and productive manner in the work environment.
Integrates complete physical assessment with nursing assessment, and records reviews in developing a comprehensive and individualized plan of care.
Follows all documentation guidelines per policy and procedure.
Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
Maintains safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Demonstrates self-direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Provides functional guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other licensed personnel, as required.
May assume shift charge responsibility on an assigned unit. Responsibility includes maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities with equitable assignments.
Makes bed and patient assignments, and assigns primary patients to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate of a school of nursing, Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred, with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses. Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process. Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation upon hire.
EXPERIENCE:
Registered nurses should develop general proficiency as a staff nurse within three months of employment. For specialty units, general nursing experience, appropriate to the specialty, is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged standing and walking. Exposed to all patient elements. May be required to lift/turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending, squatting, stooping.

SUMMARY
In each of our hospitals, the Behavioral Health Attendant role exists to maintain a safe environment for the patients to whom the Observer is assigned to constantly monitor without distraction.
Patients requiring observers are those who are considered high-risk either to themselves or others.
The Behavioral Health Attendant is required to maintain an unobstructed view of the patient at all times, including when the patient is in the bathroom and when accompanying the patient to any testing.
The Behavioral Health Attendant monitors the safety of the patient and reports any changes to the Registered Nurse overseeing the patient's care.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain constant observation of the patient, facing the patient at all times.
- Do not leave the patient unattended, including when visitors are present.
- Do not leave the assignment without RN approval and relief.
- Receive, review, and discuss the RN's report detailing any special needs or monitoring requirements.
- Immediately report any observed changes in the patient's behavior or condition to the duty nurse via the intercom system or other available communication methods.
- Inform the RN of any patient complaints related to their health.
- Call the appropriate code if needed.
- Perform patient assistance activities related to ambulation and mobilization safely, including, but not limited to, assisting patients out of and returning to their bed/chair primarily for bathroom needs (if monitoring only one patient).
- Regularly conduct room safety sweeps per policy and ensure potentially hazardous items are removed whenever possible.
- Monitor applied restraints to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Assist in dressing and undressing the patient as needed and secure clothes and belongings according to company standards to ensure patient safety.
- Maintain a professional and safe appearance, including not wearing any items around the neck that could be used as a weapon.
- Document all observations on the patient safety sheet as instructed and within designated timeframes.
- Ensure patient confidentiality at all times and refrain from discussing patient information with anyone other than the assigned nurse and physician.
- Communicate in a professional and empathetic manner with patients by listening to and acknowledging complaints and referring such complaints to the RN.
- Refer any complaints that cannot be resolved at the point of care to the patient advocate.
- Refrain from conversations with patients regarding their medical condition or plan of care.
- Greet the patient and introduce yourself at the beginning of each assignment.
- Remain solely dedicated to observing the patient throughout the shift.
- Do not bring personal items such as phones, food, books, or magazines into the room.
- Maintain infection prevention standards during all activities.
- Maintain personal and professional boundaries at all times, including refraining from sharing personal information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- No experience necessary; on-the-job training is provided. Previous experience in a hospital or nursing home setting is a plus.
- Good oral and written communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to accurately document pertinent information by writing or typing.
- Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care to safely and efficiently care for patients and interact with them.
EDUCATION
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- American Heart BLS certification required
- Completion of training within the first week of hire and prior to any patient observation assignments.
- Successful completion of the Care of the Aggressive Patient training provided by the facility upon hire.
- Completion of unit orientation for each unit to which the employee will be assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION:

BLS certification required; ACLS/PALS certification and AHA instructor certification(s) preferred. NPD specialty or other professional certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:

SUMMARY:
Reports to Departmental Administrative Manager, Chair or Chief of the Department. Plans, develops, monitors and coordinates the academic departmental research administrative activities for the department. Works with senior departmental leadership to ensure departmental resources are available for research and collaborates with the Office of Research Administration in space planning, human resource planning and departmental budget planning. Works closely with academic departmental leadership in the development of departmental policies, procedures and education with regard to research in the department. This position offers flexibility to work fully remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as point person and facilitates smooth coordination, communication, and problem resolution between research administration, faculty, divisional and/or departmental leaders, and other hospital and university departments.Coordinates research efforts in the recruitment of new faculty and staff. This may include advising new faculty on transfer procedures, including relocation of equipment and financial arrangements. Is responsible for coordination of facility management staff, new recruits and support departments in the establishment and construction of space for the recruitment program.Leads and coordinates special research-related projects, such as major grant proposals, investigator incentive programs, departmental and divisional reports and statistics. Coordinates transfers of research funding for the purpose of proper reimbursement and allocation of physician salaries on research accounts.Provides direct assistance, guidance, and resources information to departmental faculty seeking funding for research endeavors. Assumes or may assume responsibility for handling complex proposals. Reviews project applications in consideration of project budget, application instructions, sponsor rules and unique requirements, and provisions for recovery of indirect costs. Recommends and negotiates changes to appropriate applications with principal investigators or department administration and/or involved individuals at the other institutions which do not compromise the institution, department or investigators. Verifies all necessary approvals, including Human Subjects, to ensure that guidelines are met. Forwards completed applications to research administration for final approval.Assists in managing the department post-award aspect of projects, which requires sensitivity to the needs of individual investigators, knowledge of sponsor, institutional and departmental requirements, ability to interpret those requirements and competency in addressing the in-house systems (research administration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, finance, purchasing, human resources, payroll and pharmacy). Determines which principal investigator (PI) or administrator may need closer monitoring to prevent activity which could affect the institution negatively. Works closely with the Office of Research Administration to create and execute special monitoring plans for specific projects. May intervene to point out available resources or alternative procedures as appropriate. Develops departmental resources and procedures with regard to the special requirements of clinical trials.In conjunction with the academic department’s goals, develops the departmental research budget. Collaborates closely with the appropriate faculty practice administrator or hospital administrator for the appropriate reimbursement of physician salaries for research. Monitors such budget throughout the fiscal year to ensure appropriate expenditures.As appropriate, coordinates human resource and payroll issues for the department. Interacts with research administration and human resource department regarding new positions, recruiting, hiring of students, job changes, salary reviews and other related policies and procedures to assist Principal Investigators and departmental leadership. May serve as the departmental approver for time and attendance.Creates reports for departmental administration regarding funding levels, grant submission and award activities. Maintains confidential and comprehensive records of salary expenses and other disbursements, recommending adjustments where necessary. Reviews and monitors policy and procedure adherence for purchase orders, travel requests, petty cash vouchers, requisitions for payment including all equipment, maintenance agreements, contracts and subscriptions, assisting where necessary.Reviews, and with assigned signature authority, approves or rejects expenditures for specific projects, including purchase requisitions, check requests, expense vouchers, travel advances, and capital expenditures.Ensures that department is compliant in time and effort reporting. Monitors employee change forms for research faculty and staff within the department. Assures that funds are available and notifies PI and leadership when adjustments become necessary. Coordinates with the Office of Research Administration on problem issues as appropriate and to execute salary split changes and salary transfers as need.Participates in training and education regarding regulatory issues in research to help ensure compliance for the investigator and department. May assist Principal Investigators with IRBACUC submissions, including guidance on electronics submissions of protocols.Maintains strong daily association with research administration, including collaboration on final reports and some accounting adjustments. This also includes resolution of problem accounts with principal investigators, sponsors, or administrators. Reviews and determines direct cost transfers are allocated to appropriate account and are allowable. Prepares necessary journal vouchers for submission to research administration.Maintains current knowledge of institutional and sponsor requirements, procedures and areas of interest through active communication with the Office of Research Administration and sponsors and professional societies. Maintains awareness of new or changed regulations.Selects, evaluates and trains subordinate administrative staff.Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, finance or other related discipline.Masters’ degree preferred.EXPERIENCE:Five or more years of progressively more responsible experience in a researchcademic environment to include federal and non-federal funding, clinical trials, grant application processes, and regulations set by local, federal, hospital, and independent agencies.Excellent verbal and written skills are essential.The ability to interact with persons from diverse backgrounds such as MD’s, PhD’s, research and administrative staff.Thorough knowledge of microcomputers, peripheral equipment and networks.Thorough knowledge of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Windows.Ability to learn specific research access programs.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:May provide direct supervision for personnel assigned to the department’s program.Normal office environment.This position offers flexibility to work fully remote.

SUMMARY:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primary responsibilities include the susceptibility testing of unique, synthetic fragment-linked beta lactams in support of the grant. Disk diffusion assays and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) micro-broth dilution assays will be initially used to evaluate compounds with Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms.
- Compiles and shares all susceptibility data including agar plate images, zones of inhibition, and MIC values with the Investigator and Collaborator’s laboratory in a timely manner.
- Attends weekly laboratory meetings to discuss ongoing work progress.
- Explores additional experiments that may offer more in-depth impacts of the compounds that may include specific penicillin-binding protein experiments with bacterial membrane proteins using Bocillin FL.
- May perform Western Blot Analysis to confirm protein expression of synthetic genes used for analysis of the impact of amino acid mutations in penicillin binding proteins on susceptibility to antibiotics. Preparation of biological samples for Western blots including protein concentration analysis and familiarity with running SDS-PAGE gels.
- Familiar with SnapGene or similar cloning, primer design and sequence analysis software.
- Maintain stocks of laboratory materials, supplies and reagents plus equipment upkeep for experimental use and research.
- Perform annual Chemical Inventory and Air Pollution Inventory updates for Environmental Health and Safety Dept.
- Use of autoclave, Chemidoc Imager, plate reader, and NanoDrop equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree .Requires a working knowledge of statistics, computer programming and research methodology.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years of research experience. Data entry skills and PC experience required.

Schedules venipunctures or capillary blood punctures according to priority and type of test, such as timed studies. Utilizes computer-generated collection labels and references Pathology Handbook as necessary to ensure collection of specimens is in accordance with established procedures, i.e., specimens are collected in proper containers and meet special collection requirements as appropriate. Duties are performed according to hospital policy and observance of universal precautions.
Verifies identity of patient following established procedures and proper patient preparation prior to venipuncture such as fasting or special diet.
Obtains blood samples from patient according to venipuncture or capillary puncture technique. Alerts nursing staff or supervisor to any deviations from puncture or adverse patient condition.

The pediatric administrative support coordinator directly reports to the Director of Business Affairs, Administrative manager or his/her designee with functional reporting relationship to physician leader of multiple departments. Performs a variety of administrative functions to support departmental and hospital operations for pediatric areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

SUMMARY:
The Director of Perianesthesia Care Services will oversee the integration and management of the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) for Rhode Island Hospital & The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital Hold & Prep, and Rhode Island Hospital Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) departments under a unified structure. This leadership role will ensure the seamless delivery of care across these three critical phases of the perioperative process, improving patient outcomes, enhancing clinical workflows, and promoting staff collaboration. The Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining clinical pathways, streamlining communication, and continuously optimizing patient care and operational efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Management Provide strategic leadership and direction for the combined PAT, Hold & Prep, and PACU departments.
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of clinical managers, nurses, and support staff across all three departments.
Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and best practices across all areas of responsibility.
Serve as the primary liaison between departments and executive leadership to ensure alignment with hospital goals.

Staff Development and Training Oversee cross-training initiatives for staff across the PAT, Hold & Prep, and PACU departments to enhance flexibility and improve team collaboration.

Performance and Quality Improvement Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) such as patient wait times, patient satisfaction, complication rates, staff efficiency, case cancellations, and recovery times.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight Ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory standards, including but not limited to those set by The Joint Commission, OSHA, and local/state health authorities.
Manage accreditation processes for the perioperative services departments and maintain readiness for inspections and audits.
Daily Management Responsibilities: Staff Coordination: Oversee daily staffing needs, ensuring that shifts are properly filled and that staff levels are appropriate for patient volume.
Patient Flow Management: Monitor patient flow from pre-admission through recovery, ensuring timely transitions and minimizing wait times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognizes and reports deviations from patient or established norms. Identifies deviations from established norms not related to patient’s chief complaints. Reports patient’s responses to treatment(s), and documents nursing interventions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
