SUMMARY: Position is Home Based. Under the direction of IBT Coordinator and Clinical Director, the Behavior Health Specialist I (BHS I) is responsible for the care and safety of assigned children. As a member of the ABA treatment team, responsible for implementation, observation, and documentation of this program under the direction of Clinical Director. Provides direct care ABA services to children, ages 2-8+ years. They must have the ability to remain calm during a crisis situation as evidenced by the ability to make quick rational decisions and prioritize immediate patient care needs to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety. Employees in this position must also be able to participate in the physical management of patients which can include, but is not limited to, awareness and demonstration of safe body positioning at all times, awareness and coordination to block and deflect possible aggression, and the ability to physically hold struggling patients, using approved methods only, to maintain safety for extended periods of time. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules venipunctures or capillary blood punctures according to priority and type of test, such as timed studies. Utilizes computer-generated collection labels and references Pathology Handbook as necessary to ensure collection of specimens is in accordance with established procedures, i.e., specimens are collected in proper containers and meet special collection requirements as appropriate. Duties are performed according to hospital policy and observance of universal precautions.
Verifies identity of patient following established procedures and proper patient preparation prior to venipuncture such as fasting or special diet.
Obtains blood samples from patient according to venipuncture or capillary puncture technique. Alerts nursing staff or supervisor to any deviations from puncture or adverse patient condition.
Obtains samples for specialized tests (thyroid Releasing hormone, therapeutic drug monitoring, and D-Xylose tolerance). Verifies volume and timing of dosage. May monitor patient as assigned to observe reactions, including Diaphoresis, sleeping, etc.
Performs coagulation tests on outpatients such as bleeding times.
Labels, wraps and transports samples according to type and urgency of sample. Maintains records on sample procurement.

Supervise the activities of Information Desk, Patient Check-In Areas (Fain and Main OR), and Family Liason Services. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the absence of the Manager assumes responsibility for the Information Desk, Patient Check-In Desks (Fain and Main OR) and Family Liason Services to ensureconsistent coverage and performance , maintain adequate staffing and supplies, and timely response to unusual operational problems.
Supports and assists the Manager to develop and maintain departmental goals and objectives, work plans and methods, organization and staffing, performance standards and competencies.
Ensures that all policies, procedures, and regulations that pertain to all service areas are consistently implemented as written.
Creates schedules and assigns duties to provide appropriate coverage across all service areas.
Evaluates employees’ performance and competency on a continuous basis and makes recommendations for merit pay increases, promotions, and other employee relations actions.
Monitors and documents employees’ attendance and hours worked.
Interviews employment candidates and makes hiring recommendations to department director.
Prepares reports and statistics in a complete, timely and accurate manner.
Maintains effective and open communication with employees by:
- Coaching staff and assisting staff with difficult tasks.
- Leading and motivating employees to peak team performance.

EDUCATION:
Work requires high school education or equivalent with demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as the ability to provide instructions, motivate staff, and maintain records.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum four years of progressively more responsible guest service experience, including proven ability in a supervisory capacity.
Proficiency with computer operations including word processing and spreadsheet software.

Supervises approximately 23 employees across full-time, part-time, and per diem roles supporting the Information Desk, Patient Check-In areas (Fain and Main OR) and Family Liaison Services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Works independently as an embedded member of a clinic team alongside providers, nurses, pharmacists, and support personnel. Maintains and supports pharmacy interdepartmental relationships to ensure seamless transitions of patient care from clinic to pharmacy.Participates in the growth of the Brown University Health Pharmacy patient population through recruitment of ambulatory care patients. Educates patients and families on the features and values of Brown University Health Pharmacy services, including the Brown University Health Pharmacy Specialty Drug Patient Management Program (SDPMP).Protects and maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines. Collects patient personal information necessary for filling prescriptions, performing benefits investigations, completing prior authorizations and financial assistance applications. Enters pertinent patient data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and appropriate pharmacy applications to support organizational initiatives and ensure timely patient care. Navigates the EHR to effectively answer questions and provide documentation as needed for prior authorizations and financial assistance applications.Encourages patient retention through the development of individual relationships with assigned patients. Proactively contacts patients in-person, via phone, or other supervisor-approved modality to assess patient need for medication, including estimations of patient adherence such as medication supply on hand. Proactively identifies and resolves potential operational risks to patient adherence such as securing refill prescriptions and/or renewing prior authorizations and financial assistance. Serves as communication link for patients to the patient’s pharmacy and the clinic care team and coordinates therapy delivery from the patient’s pharmacy to the patient. Proactively identifies patients with clinical needs such as questions concerning medications and drug interactions and refers such patients to a pharmacist.Conducts a benefits investigation for all patients new to Navigator services and identifies coverage details that the patient or patient’s representative is unable to provide. Interfaces with insurance companies to facilitate patient access to therapy. As a member of the clinic care team, successfully completes prior authorizations, including coordinating submission of appeals, up to and, including peer-to-peer conversations as needed. Accurately quotes anticipated medication costs to patients.Secures therapy related financial assistance for patients whenever possible including, but not limited to, manufacturer assistance programs and nationally recognized foundations. Refers patients to medication manufacturer assistance programs and/or aids with application to said programs when applicable. Refers patients to the Brown University Health Medication Access Program team as applicable.Secures medication refills, prior authorization renewals, and financial assistance renewals proactively. Assists pharmacists in identifying ancillary supplies necessary for select medications, including but not limited to sharps containers, needles/syringes, alcohol swabs, and bandages that may not have been prescribed for the patient.Supports accreditation maintenance, and payor and medication access through the documentation of required data points related to patient care and operations.Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities. Assists in identifying improvement opportunities and in the development of new processes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
