The Dental Assistant supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patient, instruments, and materials, and passing instruments and materials; performs all procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act.
*Essential Duties, functions, & Responsibilities *
* Assists chair-side with pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, fully anticipating the Dentist’s need for various instruments, materials, and services.
* Documents examination information and treatment performed.
* Orders supplies and keeps Dental Office properly stocked at all times.
* Keeps all instruments sharpened and properly cleaned or sterilized.
* Takes alginate impressions for study models, pours and trims models, fabricates custom trays and bite rims.
* Applies and removes rubber dams, removes sutures, applies desensitizing agent, places surgical gauze following extractions and applies and removes periodontal dressing.
* Exposes intra-oral and extra-oral radiographs.
* Performs oral prophylaxis and applies topical fluoride treatments.
* Measures and records blood pressure and health history.
* Maintains a variety of reports related to dental activities.
* Follows occupational safety and infection control guidelines for Dental Office personnel.
* Clean, sterilizes and disinfects dental instruments and equipment, which includes running and recording weekly sterilization tests as stated in the QI Infection Control Standards.
* Relays post-treatment instructions to patients, motivates and instructs patients in proper brushing and flossing techniques, care of orthodontic appliances and common causes of tooth decay.
* Rotates with Dental Assistant at Tower dental station.
* Orders MSDS sheets with each new product; reviews them and binds them in the MSDS reference binder.
* Establishes a network of sales representatives, supply companies and dental laboratories.
* Assists in identifying high-risk groups and initiating preventive planning needs; assists in developing and implementing community dental prevention programs, such as National Children’s Dental Health-month and the Health Fair.
* Compiles and reports programmatic data and surveys required by the RTC, IHS and dental program to include annual, monthly, preventive, fluoride, and school reports.
* Answers correspondence to dental suppliers, doctors and patients as instructed by the Dentist.
* Assists with scheduling patient appointments and patient services.
* Participates in Quality Improvement activities; attends general staff meetings, dental staff meetings and Bemidji Area Dental meetings, as well as continuing education seminars to maintain licensure.
* Apply pit and tissue sealants and directed by Dentist.
* Remove excess cement from teeth using rotary instrument.
* Perform Orthodontic treatments as directed by the Dentist.
* As an employee of the Bois Forte Reservation, will follow the Bois Forte Procurement Policy and any other applicable procurement requirements when obtaining goods and/or services for the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.

*MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS*
Experience:
· Two years working in a dental office setting with experience in accessing, evaluating, and taking appropriate measures to assist, teach and follow-up on preventative dental care.
*Education:*
· Successful completion of an Accredited Dental Assisting teaching institution program.
License/Certification:
· State of Minnesota Board of Dentistry Dental Assistant License.
· CPR Certification.
*Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications: *

The Nurse Practitioner provides diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic health services to patients and family members at the Bois Forte and Vermilion Clinics; with the ability to function as an independent practitioner. *Essential Duties, functions, & Responsibilities*
* Secure a health and developmental history from the patient or parent and perform a detailed physical exam; records findings and makes critical evaluations. Performs or requests special screening and developmental tests and diagnostic tests and procedure and interprets the results.
* Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems. Make decisions concerning medical care needs of patients which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consultation, and referral when appropriate.
* Provide direct and independent medical care in the presence of illness or disability in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress, and enhance coping ability.
* Provide surveillance or medical practices applied to stabilize chronically ill persons; adjust treatments within established standing orders recognizing when to refer the patient to the physician or other health team members.

· Ability to use critical thinking skills, function independently and make complex decisions based on standards of care, policies and procedures, critical pathways, and nursing, home healthcare and palliative care practices and procedures.
· Knowledge of regulatory agencies documentation requirements and ability to accurately and completely document clinical data.
· Knowledge of disease processes in order to recognize their effects, side effects and complications. This includes knowledge of the appropriate therapeutic intervention along with the ability to perform complex care based on the specific needs of the patient.
· Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations, including the implementation of life saving procedures. This includes knowledge of BLS, ACLS, CPR, and PALS. · Knowledge of human behavior in order to provide counseling, guidance and health instruction in order to create and maintain a positive experience for both patients and their families. · Knowledge of the pharmacology of various medications (both legal and illegal substances), their therapeutic effects, side effects and adverse reactions. · Knowledge of durable medical equipment and other medically necessary equipment for home use including, but not limited to wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, oxygen equipment, lift chairs, Hoyer lifts, etc. · Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures relating to wound care and infection control. · Ability to prioritize activities and organize time effectively. · Ability to provide good customer service with a patient-centric approach.
· Excellent interpersonal skills in handling interactions with hospital staff, other agencies, groups, and patients and families; capable of working with and actively participating with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
· Must be aware of laws of confidentiality and HIPAA. · Basic operation of a workstation (turning on/off, knowledge of basic functions and components) and general office equipment. Use/storage/maintenance of multiple usernames and passwords. Computer-related problem-solving skills through the use of available training and help desk. · Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), internet software and appropriate storage of electronic files. · Ability to perform other duties as assigned. · A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
Pay: $110,968.00 - $147,971.20 per year
