Job Description:
A Medical assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs. A Medical Assistant will be responsible for communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
This position will start out at Provo Family Medicine for 4-6 months before transitioning to the Utah Valley Float Pool
Travel is required to clinics across Utah County, Park City, and Heber when in the Float Pool

As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:
- Providing Patient Care: Under the direction of the Clinician, providing care to patients by assisting the provider to gather information that is relative to the patient’s visit and condition.
- Effective Communication: Communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
- Team Collaboration: Working with cross functional teams to collaborate on patient care. Attention to detail and follow-through are key components in helping to provide the care that is needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or one year of Medical Assistant Experience or a current RN/LPN license
- Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date
- Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
- Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
- Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
- Utah Only:If certified with less than one year of MA experience, caregivers may attend a yearlong MA residency program
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
- Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
- Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

About the Role
As a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Critical Care Medicine, you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience. You will be an integral member of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team caring for complex, critically ill patients in a 32‑bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The RN Hospital Care Manager I delivers comprehensive care management services to designated patients, leveraging clinical expertise for screenings, assessments, and evaluations. This role involves developing and implementing patient-centered care plans with shared goals and tailored interventions. The Care Manager collaborates seamlessly with patients, families/caregivers, healthcare providers, payers, community-based providers, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient, effective, and patient-focused care management. Minimum Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice.

Job Duties:
Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities, depending on the need of the unit. • Answers telephone promptly and assist caller with obtaining items needed
• Assembles supplies and places into case carts for scheduled and non-scheduled procedures
• Makes rounds throughout the hospital to deliver sterile and non-sterile instrumentation, supplies and equipment, and to pick-up contaminated or credit instrumentation, supplies and equipment
• Delivers scheduled case carts to the Surgery Department

Education: Master’s Degree from a Nationally Accredited Physician Assistant Program or Accredited Advanced Practicing Nursing Program required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license from the State of Texas required
- Current PA certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants or APRN by an approved national certifying body required
- Eligibility for DEA licensure
- Basic Cardiac Life Certification or Advanced Cardiac Life Certification required
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Five (5) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider required
- Leadership experience preferred.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Clinical Oversight and Leadership
- Provides operational oversight and supervision of APP operations, staffing, planning, budgeting, and resource management of designated area.
- Ensures clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review of APPs with physician leaders.
- Provides or arranges for onboarding and orientation of newly hired APPs.
- Develops and monitors APP compliance with education and training requirements.
- Assists physician leadership to develop, lead, and implement service line integration and provider expansion efforts related to APPs.
- Functions as a clinical advanced practice provider, as licensed, in a proportion appropriate for the team and approved by department/hospital leadership.
Administrative
- Acts as a liaison between designated area and System to align structure, competencies, and staffing models.
- Reviews and assesses clinical needs and proposes restructure or the creation of clinical services in both planning and budgeting process.
- Assists in the development and administration of policies and procedures.
- Provides oversight of regulatory agency preparedness and resources.
- Reviews billing activity of clinical APPs for the purposes of compliance and distribution of effort in comparison to budgeted activity.
- Participates in the hiring, evaluation, mentoring and management of performance of APPs, including annual performance evaluations.
- Investigates and resolves operational issues.
- Serves as liaison between physician and APP.
- Coordinates quality improvement and process improvement projects.
- Serves as a representative on committees at the hospital/ambulatory level.
- Participates in monthly and ad hoc APP leadership meet
Regulatory
- Assures that APPs function in accordance with federal and state regulatory standards and institutional policies and procedures.
- Participates in Medical Staff Services initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Advocates and is informed of practice models that allow clinicians to practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice.
- Stays current with regional and national discussions that affect APP practice.
- Works with hospital leadership to optimize billing and reimbursement models for APP practice.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Position Summary and Purpose
Performs clerical duties on the unit under the direction of the Licensed Nursing Personnel. Applies proper and professional communication skills between personnel within the department and to other departments in relationship to patient care. Presents a personable and professional attitude to physicians, patients, families, visitors, and co-workers. Provides clinical patient care support in a caring, safe, efficient manner, under the direction of an RN. Performs other functions including phlebotomy, EKG lead placement, and respiratory functions. Essential Functions:
• Transcribes and computes physician orders, department orders and messages accurately. Writes legibly and transcribes orders accurately
• Assembles patient medical records and maintains proper order of records within the chart
• Sets up admission charts and disassembles discharged and transferred charts, checking for completeness
• Handles desk communications properly and promptly, including responding immediately to intercom, pages and routing of messages to appropriate person
• Replaces forms as necessary in patient medical records
• Routes requests for patient information to nurse promptly and accurately
• Communicates physician orders to responsible nurse.
• Collects required unit data
• Measures and documents intake and output, heights and weights, and vital signs
• Applies, monitors, and documents restraint usage
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens
• Performs and documents point-of-care testing
• Performs and documents patient mobility and exercise, and comfort, rest, and sleep care needs
• Performs and documents patient hygiene, grooming, and dressing, skin and nail care, dietary, and toileting and elimination needs
Other Functions:
• Organizes equipment and supplies
• Completes bedmaking and cleaning assignments on the unit
• Performs and documents perineal care, and applies unsterile hot/cold packs/compresses, bandages, and elastic stockings
• Safely and correctly operates equipment (i.e. beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, hypo/hyperthermia unit, mechanical lifts, bed scales)
• Presents a pleasant, courteous, effective manner with telephone conversations and interactions with others
• Orders stock; maintains and enters charged items at the end of the shift according to procedure
• Orients new personnel in desk orientation
• Assists with admitting, physical examination, transferring, and discharging patients
• Transports patients, lab work, specimens, and blood
• Adheres to Universal precaution, infection control, OSHA, and other regulatory policies and procedures. Maintains safe work practices and follows facility safety procedures
