Assesses, accessions, and processes patient specimens in preparation for testing in the various sections of Laboratory Medicine.
- Safely handles potentially infectious blood, body fluids, body tissues, and other patient specimens in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Assesses suitability and acceptability of patient specimens.
- Rejects unacceptable specimens according to established protocols.
- Matches order information with specimen information to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
- Accessions and results according to procedure via appropriate computer application.
- Correctly assigns billing numbers, location codes, and physician numbers.
- Verifies physician orders when test requests are unclear.
- Prepares specimens as appropriate including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling.
- Delivers prepared specimens to appropriate testing area in a timely manner.
- Applies laboratory programs to store specimens and to locate, retrieve, and process specimens for additional testing as requested.
- Maintains computer logs, quality control, disinfection procedures, and departmental assigned duties.
- Manages phone inquiries and provides information regarding specimen collection, transport, and patient results as appropriate.
- Assists in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Navigates and accesses multiple computer applications as needed.
- Assists with packaging ordering and referral of specimens to reference laboratories in compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation and commercial carrier regulations as required.
- Troubleshoots missing specimens and other preanalytical errors including courier log review, specimen archives.
- Maintains equipment, participates in established preventative maintenance program, and alerts supervisor of any equipment problems.
- Assists in proper handling, storage, and maintenance of supplies, notifies supervisor when inventory is low.
- Completes departmental continuing education requirements.
- As appropriate, performs testing processes within scope of laboratory assistant duties. Completes related training and maintains competency to perform assigned testing processes.
- As appropriate, participates in professional development programs and leads one related improvement initiative per year.
- Successfully completes initial and periodic competency assessments for all assigned job functions.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary measurements and recording chief complaint; documents pain scores as appropriate. Reports condition of patient which may be indicative of change in the patient's condition to the clinician.
2. Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures which could include taking patients’ blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate/pulse, taking temperature, as well as performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation and EKG’s. Acts as chaperon as needed. Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed. Responsible for prioritization of patient flow through clinical process.
3. Coordinates and manages patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling of patients for clinic, hospital and other ancillary medical treatments and tests. Responsible for communicating test results to patient. Acts as a resource to clinician in order to provide optimal patient care. May administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
4. Provides clerical support with patient/client notifications and documentation to include but not limited to complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit. Provides complete and accurate information necessary for billing related to the patient encounter in a timely fashion.
5. Maintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas. Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures. Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines in handling of hazardous substances. Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance for prompt repairs.
6. Orders supplies as directed, stocks patient care areas. Medication ordering and tasks related to all medications (e.g. expired medications/equipment and recalls).
7. Develops and maintains effective communication mechanism with all external and internal customers. Exemplifies service orientation and the team concept in all contacts.
8. This position will complete all necessary on-boarding/orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed.
9. This position works under the direct supervision of the providers. This position interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Also interacts with physician’s offices in order to report, ask for or clarify information. Prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Active Medical Assistant Certification is required. Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use. BLS certification required. Major Responsibilities:

Provides and/or fabricates assistive devices and/or splints to enhance patient's functional independence. Monitors and evaluates outcomes and appropriately adjusts individualized treatment plan based on patient's response and provides status updates to physicians and other teammates. Identifies factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort and attends to these needs.
Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, transition planning within the continuum of care and ordering equipment as indicated/appropriate. Completes all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards with appropriate co- signatures, including patient evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries as appropriate. We have an amazing team that is passionate about providing excellent care for neonates and their family. Skills include lactation support, neurodevelopmental care, CPAP, ventilators, chest tubes, extended dwell IV lines, surfactant administration, delivery attendance with neonatal resuscitation.
Full time, 36 hours a week, nights, self-scheduling every 8 weeks. There is weekend and holiday requirements.

Intermountain Health is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our highly respected Cardiothoracic Surgery program based at Intermountain Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. This is an exceptional opportunity to work alongside three Cardiothoracic Surgeons and a collaborative team of advanced practice providers while practicing at the top of your license in a comprehensive surgical role.
From first assisting in complex cardiac and thoracic procedures to managing patients across the ICU, telemetry units, clinic, and postoperative settings, you'll play a vital role in delivering outstanding surgical outcomes and patient experiences.
Clinical Practice Details
- You would practice at our CT Surgery clinic and Intermountain Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, CO
- Rotating schedule with 4 total PAs, including 24-hour call coverage and weekend rounding
- Occasional call and rounding at St. Joseph Hospital, a sister facility in Denver
- First assist in cardiac/thoracic surgeries; minimal vascular case load including dialysis access
- On average, one case per day
- MUSThave proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting
- Place foley catheters and invasive lines
- Team responsibilities include ICU/ telemetry rounding, discharges and first assist coverage for all cases
- Clinic coverage for post-op patients

Compensation:
- Our compensation consists of a base salary plus call pay (Q4 call). The salary is calculated on years of experience and can range from $140,000 - $193,000.
- Additionally, we are offering a $25,000 sign on bonus as well as relocation, if applicable (up to $7500).
- You would also receive up to $4,000annually to take CME plus an additional 5 days of time over PTO.

Scope
The Medical Director - Gynecology, St. George Regional Hospital is a hospital administrative leadership role with regional and enterprise participation expectations as appropriate. Job Description:
Creates and manages provider’s surgery schedules, including in office procedure schedules and equipment. Essential Functions
- Creates and manages provider’s surgery/hospital procedure schedules. Maintains any changes, cancellations, rescheduling and/or clinical follow up on these schedules. Uses Provider power plans to ensure all necessary orders are proposed, signed off and sent for hospital orders.
- Obtains authorization for surgeries/hospital procedures by researching coverage and obtain prior auth for them. Verifies eligibility and benefits. Coordinates referral for patients that will go out of network. Point of contact for surgery authorization questions. Obtain proper CPT code from provider for authorization.
- Proposes iCentra requirements to create a pre-surgical FIN# and to create required surgical scheduling card for the Hospital scheduler to pull the case information, where applicable.
- Coordinate with the provider to ensures all necessary surgical/procedure equipment is requested for any special item that needs to be pulled from Hospital supplies or special equipment that needs to be brought in by surgical supply Reps. Coordinates any necessary Hospital items with nursing staff at the Hospital. Calls in surgical/procedure order for Providers the Hospital surgery/procedure scheduler day before cases.
- Meets with surgery/procedure patients to explain the process. This includes pre-op labs, tests, or any pre-requisite that needs prior attention. Coordinates with Providers and Medical Staff any red flag pre-operative health concerns for patient safety.
- Scan and Document process in patient charts and relay cost estimations. Investigate billing disputes for surgery/procedure.

Emergency Dept Unit Clerk FT 7a-7pThe ED Unit Clerks serve as the department facilitators, aiding in all processes outside of direct patient care to ensure patient care can happen correctly and efficiently. This is achieved by working very closely with the ED Charge Nurse and the ED Flow Coordinator to help manage the department and patient flow within the department. The ED Unit Clerk is responsible for all clerical duties within the department; including answering a 13-line phone system, all encounter scanning, copying, and faxing. The ED Unit Clerk works directly with the physicians within their assigned team to facilitate and assist in various tasks to aid in patient care, such as, paging and contacting other physicians, obtaining medical records, and arranging transportation to various radiology departments. The ED Unit Clerks are solely responsible for monitoring the 13-bed Patient Safety Surveillance monitoring system, and for arranging all EMS transportation out of the Emergency Department. Facilitates all patient radiology transfers/transports by keeping in contact via phone with CT, MRI, X-Ray, and Ultrasound.
• Solely responsible for the paging and contacting of any and all physicians on call for every consulting and emergent medical service that BMH offers 24 hours per day. Utilizes SmartWeb and Emergin paging systems, as well as ITSM and Conveyant phone databases.
• ED Unit Clerks are responsible for calling and initiating hospital call downs for the ED. This includes tier 1 and tier 2 trauma calls, AMIs, and Strokes, as well as calling down Code Black Level 1 and 2 for the hospital.
• Monitors and operates the 13 bed camera Patient Safety Surveillance program for patients who require extra visual and auditory monitoring.
• Responsible for scanning all encounter level documents into patient charts for emergency room physicians, nurses, and ED Techs. Also provide encounter scanning for Case Management/MSW, for all law enforcement documentation and subpoena information, and for the ED Pharmacy Department. This ensures the proper documentation is compiled for patients, creating the most accurate and complete medical record.
• Arrange and facilitate all patient EMS transfers out of the ED including transfers to nursing facilities, home to patients’ current residence, to KNI for imaging not offered at Bronson, and to KPEP for those patients who qualify. ED Unit Clerks are the only ED employees trained to use the Bronson Transfer Tracking Application.
• Facilitates and monitors the ED’s admission process. Responsibilities range from ensuring the ED Physician pages the correct admitting provider, to broadcasting to the team when the patient has a clean and ready inpatient hospital bed assignment. This helps ED staff expedite moving patients to inpatient status in a timely manner in order to reach SBAR and GEMBA goals, as well as provide the best possible care to patients.
• Facilitates ordering priority 1 blood and initiates massive transfusion protocols with the blood bank. ED Unit Clerks also do the “running” for massive transfusions, which entails retrieving the products from the blood bank and delivering back to the ED.
• Responsible for obtaining medical records from any and all outside hospitals for continuation of patient care for ED Physicians. Collects and encounter scans all requested records into the patients chart.
• Create a daily Physician call schedule for all consulting and emergent services offered by BMH. This involves maintaining and collecting all on-call schedules for all relevant offices and medical groups in the Kalamazoo/BMH area.

Function as a Patient Safety Assistant for suicide precautions only, which includes,
- Safe patient handling required.
- Responsibilities include observation and reporting patient activities and behaviors and appropriate response intervention to assure patient safety. The Patient Safety Assistant will demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patient/patient family and other healthcare providers, and practice confidentiality and safety procedures as defined by agency. The Patient Safety Assistant provide services in accordance with policy and procedure manuals. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Education

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Knowledge of venipuncture procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule.
Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
