Education Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing is required for baccalaureate program.
- Doctorate degree in Nursing required for master’s program.
- Evidence of degree must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Two years teaching experience at baccalaureate level preferred.
- Per state law nurse faculty must have 2 years clinical experience. For master’s program experience teaching at the master’s level preferred and/or experiential expertise in content area.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice is required.

Major Responsibilities:
- Assists licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
- Accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
- Assists with medication distribution tasks.
- Screens phone calls and routes as needed using proper telephone and voicemail etiquette.
- Assists in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
- Complete documentation required for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances, where applicable.
- Perform nonsterile compounding following proper USP standards, where applicable.
- Perform sterile IV admixture, as defined at the entity level, using proper aseptic technique, where applicable.
- Inspects all assigned medication storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
- Completes and documents medication admission histories, as applicable at the facility level.
- Seeks additional duties when required work is done and accepts other duties as assigned.
- May participate in quality improvement initiatives to assure the excellence of departmental services.
- May assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders in orientation to the policies, procedures, and workflows involved in pharmacy operations as applicable at entity level.
- Abides by all organization policies and procedures and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Supports area leaders regarding goals and work assignments.
- Obtaining and recording initial patient demographic and other required information, data entry of required information into the pharmacy system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation purposes, and cashiering.
- Develop competence in third-party billing functions.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- May obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations for patients under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, where applicable.
- Responsible for operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and other essential medical supplies as required by the designated department.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Certification / Registration / License:
- Registration or licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements.
- North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration as a pharmacy technician required within 30 days of hire.
- Must receive certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) within 18 months from start date, or sooner if in more stringent in state.
Nice to Have (Not Required):
- Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl and reach above shoulders.
- Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of approximately 50 pounds and lifting 35 pounds of material.
- Must have functional vision, touch and hearing.
- Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively.
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease for which appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is utilized to minimize exposure.

Job Description:
The Surgical Services Support Technician is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from the operating room (OR) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This role includes organizing and restocking equipment, cleaning surgical suites, assisting with room turnover, maintaining sterile technique, supporting OR and anesthesia caregiver requests, and transporting specimens and blood following safe verification policies.
The Surgical Services Support Technician is expected to be able to assist with prompt case turnovers prioritizing a clean and organized OR, SDS, PACU, or patient environment. Essential duties include working closely with the surgical team and adapting to dynamic situations. The technician may also need to respond to code situations and assist as required. Promoting the health organization’s mission, vision, and values is also a key expectation.
Expanded duties may include scrubbing into procedures and assisting by holding extremities, retractors, cameras, suction, or organs. Caregivers in this role are trained in Basic Aseptic Technique.
Essential Functions
- Transports patients safely to and from the OR holding area, PACU or patient rooms, utilizing proper patient handling techniques, and assists with lifting positioning, and transferring patients as needed.
- Consults with the anesthesiologist and registered nurse (RN) to determine equipment, setup, and supply needs prior to procedures. In time, anticipates procedural requirements and proactively prepares the room with the necessary equipment and supplies.
- Processes post-surgical case carts by safely discarding sharps, emptying suction canisters, redistributing unused supplies, and sending carts to the Sterile Processing Department for reprocessing.
- Sets up fluid warmers, invasive lines, and sterile supplies for anesthesia procedures, when assigned.
- Ensures timely turnover of operating rooms by cleaning all surfaces, removing trash and soiled linen, mopping beneath the OR bed, and preparing the room thoroughly for the next surgical case.
- Transports blood products and specimens to and from the blood bank, OR, SDS, PACU, and laboratory/pathology departments, ensuring strict adherence to all verification and safety protocols.
- When assigned, stocks supplies such as masks and surgical attire in the OR, as well as dietary and storeroom supplies in SDS and PACU, or other supplies as directed by the facility.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the facility, which may include verifying and logging warmer temperatures, checking eyewash stations, maintaining the utility room, and other support tasks as needed.
- Maintains proper traffic patterns and adheres to sanitation protocols for surgical and anesthesia instruments and equipment.
- Expanded duties may include completing training in Basic Aseptic Technique, learning to scrub, gown, and glove independently, and attentively supporting the surgeon as directed, in accordance with the scope of practice for support personnel.

The Nursing Graduate works under the direct line-of-sight supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent also orients to the RN assignment, excluding independent nursing care. This position may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of the licensed RN.

Responsible for communicating test results to patient. Acts as a resource to clinician in order to provide optimal patient care. May administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
4. Provides clerical support with patient/client notifications and documentation to include but not limited to complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit. Provides complete and accurate information necessary for billing related to the patient encounter in a timely fashion.
5. Maintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas. Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures. Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines in handling of hazardous substances. Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance for prompt repairs.
6. Orders supplies as directed, stocks patient care areas. Medication ordering and tasks related to all medications (e.g. expired medications/equipment and recalls).
7. Develops and maintains effective communication mechanism with all external and internal customers. Exemplifies service orientation and the team concept in all contacts.
8. This position will complete all necessary on-boarding/orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed.
9. This position works under the direct supervision of the providers. This position interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Also interacts with physician’s offices in order to report, ask for or clarify information. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Provides care for the physical needs of patients when conducting the cardiac echo studies. Educates patients who require inpatient or outpatient echo exams by providing explanations of purpose and techniques used during the exam. Proactively identifies issues and how to address them for optimum outcomes.
- Provides direct assistance to physicians and other health care team members during cardiac echo studies including, patient preparation before procedures and performs proper sterile techniques as indicated in support of the procedure.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Identifies and recognizes cardiac structures accurately, including: calculate valve area, pressure gradients and ejection fraction when performing echo studies. Confirms the quality of the study is concise and clear to optimize best images for the patient care team and interpreting physician.
- Identifies abnormal findings when performing exams or processing data and takes corrective action or communicates immediately, when appropriate, to proper personnel for the best results.
- Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with infection control procedures. Complies with job, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
- Ensures all patient care equipment has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
