This job acts as a leader in the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses and Scope & Standards of Practice. Effectively delegates, directs and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; exhibits sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and religious diversity in all interactions; maintains involvement in activities aimed toward the achievement of unit and the department’s strategic goals and objectives and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice and supports the company's philosophy of nursing.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education
Required - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Work Experience
Required - None.
Certifications
Required - Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Preferred - Certification in clinical specialty area.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. Job Duties:
Performs and reports various analyses from multiple specimen sources. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR;
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR;
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team.As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
The Patient Care Tech III (PCT III) brings an additional skill set to the table. PCTs that are performing unit secretary duties, telemetry monitoring, remote video monitoring, or are working in the Emergency Department, ICU, Dialysis, Spine Procedure Room, Endoscopy, Neurointerventional Radiology, Angiography, and Radiology Short Stay, and Harrington Telemetry Certified & Step-Down Unit are eligible for this level.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
11. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
12. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
13. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
14. Answers telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette. Takes and relays messages. Utilizes intra-department communication systems, such as pagers and intercom.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
The PCT III must fit into one of these specialties:
Unit Secretary
Functions as unit secretary assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months. Has administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, maintaining logs, organizing patient care charts for admission/discharge/transfer and maintenance of medical records. Enters data or retrieves medical information from the electronic medical record systems.
Remote Video Monitoring
Continuously observes multiple patients utilizing the remote video monitoring system.
Emergency Department, Step Down Unit, ICU, Dialysis, Spine Procedure Room, Endoscopy, Neurointerventional Radiology, Angiography, and Radiology Short Stay.
Telemetry Certified & Step-Down Unit - Harrington
PCT IIIs are cross trained in phlebotomy and telemetry competencies, as well as the unit clerk position. PCT IIIs will also be assigned to areas of higher acuity, such as the Step-Down Unit.

Essential Functions
- Evaluates patients, selects and administers assessment techniques, synthesizes information to establish appropriate patient care plan to include necessary modalities, procedures, exercise programs, therapeutic groups and patient education as warranted by a holistic view of the patient's diagnosis, condition, age, and discharge needs.
- Gathers and interprets appropriate data from the medical record, physician reports, patient, and/or family as evidenced by documentation.
- Establishes functional goals in conjunction with the patient and provides evidenced based intervention to work towards meeting these goals with ongoing assessment to adjust the plan of care as needed .
- Documents evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges as needed.
- Communicates patient's evaluation and subsequent progress to physician, referral sources, and other clinical staff, coordinates patient's schedule and treatment programs, and discharge planning.
- Provides supervision of PTA's and Rehab Tech/Aide as required for licensure.
Physical Requirements
Hearing (corrected) adequate for oral/aural communication. Vision (corrected) adequate for reading. Intelligible speech and adequate language/cognitive skills to perform job duties. Sitting, standing, and walking required throughout the day. Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion, crouching, crawling and reaching overhead. Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Able to laterally transfer patients 100 pounds rarely. Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to patients/caregivers. Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks are sometimes required due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids. Work is in a fast-paced clinical environment. The work environment is primarily indoors but occasionally outdoors.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy program required. applicable state license for Physical Therapy required. BLS required per policy guidelines.

Our collaborative team of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs works closely with ABMC physicians and other supportive subspecialities to provide the highest quality care for our patients.

6. Develops departmental budget for personnel, material and services. Operates organization in accordance with approved budget.
7. Prepares business plans to support new programs or expansion of existing programs and seeks grant funding opportunities as appropriate to supplement program operations.
8. Represents the organization within community, professional, and governmental networks; develops collaborative partnerships; promotes behavioral health services through outreach and educational activities; and supports program growth, referral development, and census management.
9. Collaborates with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.
10. Oversees all licensure, accreditation, regulatory, and compliance requirements for the organization, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, confidentiality laws, and accreditation standards. Serves as the primary liaison with regulatory and state agencies and coordinates audits, surveys, inspections, and official communications.
11. Leads the Facilities Management team to include maintenance, housekeeping, lease management and facility oversight.
12. Provides direct operational and clinical support during staffing shortages, emergencies, or other circumstances requiring leadership intervention to ensure continuity of services.
13. Assist in maintaining census in all programs through presentation at conferences, EAPs and referral sources and to include reducing AMAs and providing transition planning to all clients.
14. Directs organizational quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, including clinical record review, incident reporting, risk assessment, regulatory reporting, outcome measurement, and continuous process improvement to enhance quality, safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.

6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to the radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
8. Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires national certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensure by the state regulatory agency as applicable. Advance certification by accrediting body in Mammography required within 18 months of hire. BLS certification required.
Roles supporting mobile medical unit require travel within local community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CDL preferred for roles supporting mobile medical unit.

This job is considered a leader in the provision of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses and Scope & Standards of Practice. Effectively delegates, directs and assists licensed and ancillary team members. Assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes, exhibits sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and religious diversity in all interactions, and maintains involvement in activities aimed toward the achievement of unit and the department’s strategic goals and objectives. Demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice and supports the company's philosophy of nursing.Education
Required - Registered nurse diploma.
Preferred - associate or bachelor's degree in nursing.
Work Experience
Required -None.
Certifications
Required - Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification.
Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.
Preferred -Certification in clinical specialty area.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
Good organizational skills.
Good time management skills and ability to be self-directed.
Ability to demonstrate good judgement.
Good interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
Effectively uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care.
Assesses learning needs and implement teaching strategies appropriate for the diverse needs of the patient, family and other groups or disciplines.
Communicates, delegates and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) properly and serves as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team.
Utilizes data, information and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
