$24.10 - $36.15MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assures the smooth operation of all gross room function, all Anatomic Pathology is cleaned, disinfected and maintained according to CAP and OSHA standards.
- Ensures that in-house specimen deliveries are received and noted on schedule. Ensures that incoming slides by couriers are promptly distributed to pathologists.
- Orders supplies according to standard operating procedures.  Monitors supply usage. Ensures adequate levels of supplies and timely placement of orders. Works with supply chain management to resolve any quality issues.
- Oversees filing and storage of specimen blocks and slides;Â Performs, teaches and assures filing and documentation procedures are followed for specimen blocks and slides; Assures accurate record-keeping and filing of all specimens and slides. Organizes and appropriately stores specimens from other sites. Maintains necessary records and disposes specimens in accordance with CAP regulations.
- Ensures accuracy of tissue part type and that work is completed is a safe and efficient manner. Ensures that specimens in cassettes are sent to IL Central Lab (ICL) and slide specimens are received by courier from ICL and all documentation complete and accurate.
- Assures accurate and timely retrieval of slides for patients, conferences and send-outs. Assures accurate and detailed chain of custody documentation.
- Documents problems and takes corrective action relating to specimens, equipment or complaints. Reports unresolved or unusual situations or problems to the supervisor. Utilizes principles of Continuous Quality Improvement.
- Under the direction of the laboratory supervisor, coordinates work assignments in autopsy, FNA, gross room, filing slide distribution and billing. Communicates and escalates concerns that occur during the scheduled shift to supervisor for appropriate resolution.
- Performs, teaches and trains all facets of gross room techniques, frozen sections and fine needle aspirations to associates, residents and new pathologists. Serves as technical resource to staff, as appropriate.
- In conjunction with supervisor and director, updates and maintains department policies and procedures.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
License/Registration/Certification Required: None Required
Education Required: Associate’s Degree in Science Related field
Experience Required: Typically requires 5 years of related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of human anatomy.
- Demonstrated knowledge of biologic sciences and medical terminology.
- Must know how to safely handle sharp instruments.
- Must be detail oriented and have good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment and on-call for autopsies.
- Keyboarding and typing skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job.
- Frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. Occasionally required to move up to 200 lbs.
- Sits, stands and walks the majority of the workday as well as lifts, squats, bends and twists throughout.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive and infectious agents therefore, must wear protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, gloves, gowns and eye and face protection )as needed.
- Will be exposed to human blood, body fluids, tissues and cadavers therefore, must wear protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, gloves, gowns and eye and face protection) as needed.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute's Interventional and Structural Heart Program is seeking a Full-time advanced practice provider (APP) to join our growing team.
This position is occupied by board certified physician assistants and/or acute care nurse practitioners trained and proficient in providing cardiac services.
 *Sign-On Bonus Eligible*
The APP in this position will function at the top of their license in the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic-based setting in collaboration with a supervising physician and other members of a multidisciplinary team.
This role will be an integral component of a high functioning multidisciplinary team of providers including cardiology APPs, interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and imaging cardiologists.
The APP is responsible for inpatient daily rounds, consultations, admissions, and discharges, along with clinic appointments.
The APP is competent inpatient examinations, medication management, and ordering laboratory/radiologic testing and interpretation of results, including ECGs.
Position Responsibilities
This is a medical cardiology role. APP is not expected to perform procedures but will manage patients pre and post procedurally.
APP is expected to perform admission, rounding, consult and discharge notes on patients in the inpatient and ED setting, along with same day procedure setting. APP is also expected to adequately perform clinic visits in the outpatient setting.
Full time day shift, 40-hour work week, 4 x 10-hour shifts. No call or night shift.
Setting that they will be working – Hybrid (inpatient/outpatient). APP is expected to see 14 outpatients on a full day of clinic.
Opportunity to participate in committees, teaching – Opportunities to participate in committees, especially those around improving care for individual service line. APP is expected to participate in education of APP fellows, MD students, residents, or in onboarding of new APPs.
Work independently and work well with a team. He or she will be responsible for the management of patients undergoing catheter-based interventions for coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease, along with providing general cardiology care and heart failure management in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
Position Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS/ACLS Certified.
Nurse practitioners with Master's degree of Doctorate of Nursing Practice. ACNP, AGACNP required based on population served.
Nurse practitioners are required to have Acute Care Certification
Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.

- Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.

$30.70 - $46.05Major Responsibilities:- Performs culturally responsive psychosocial screening and assessment to identify social, psychological, behavioral, economic, and environmental needs of outpatients and their families. May include family needs assessment, assessment of safety and environment risk, and assessment of resource needs.
- Develops goals related to the social, psychological, behavioral, economic, and environmental needs of the patient and family, and in alignment with the patient’s overall health goals. Identifies potential risks and barriers to positive health outcomes. Identifies other necessary resources and services both within the health care system and the community which may include safety planning.
- Provides appropriate social work and therapeutic interventions to facilitate the execution of the social care plan. Includes psychosocial and supportive counseling, health behavior coaching, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation and health literacy, case management, and crisis intervention services.

This position assists a nurse manager in managing daily nursing activities within a nursing department. Essential Functions:
- This role encompasses a range of responsibilities that supports a nurse manager. This role is characterized by a higher level of accountability, which includes conducting employee evaluations, participating in the hiring process, and managing budgetary responsibilities.
- Assists and supports the nurse manager in the creation or maintenance of an environment in which clinical nursing is practiced.

Minimum Qualifications:

Job Duties:
May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
- Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include but is not limited to advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV.
- May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- May perform daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas.
- Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
- Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards. Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.

PCTs that are performing unit secretary duties, telemetry monitoring, remote video monitoring, or are working in the Emergency Department, ICU, Dialysis, Spine Procedure Room, Endoscopy, Neurointerventional Radiology, Angiography, and Radiology Short Stay, and Harrington Telemetry Certified & Step-Down Unit are eligible for this level.
I. Major Responsibilities:Â
1.   Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2.   Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3.   Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4.   Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment. Â
5.   Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6.   Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7.   Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry).  Measures and records patients’ height and weight.Â
8.   Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards.  Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to lab. Â
9.   Phlebotomy in certain locations.Â
10.   Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships. Â
11.   Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
12.   Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
13.   Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake.  Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed.  Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems.  Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.  Â
14.   Answers telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette.  Takes and relays messages.  Utilizes intra-department communication systems, such as pagers and intercom.
15.   Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16.   Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
The PCT III must fit into one of these specialties:
Unit Secretary
Functions as unit secretary assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months. Â Has administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, maintaining logs, organizing patient care charts for admission/discharge/transfer and maintenance of medical records. Â Enters data or retrieves medical information from the electronic medical record systems. Â
Remote Video Monitoring
Continuously observes multiple patients utilizing the remote video monitoring system. Â
Emergency Department, Step Down Unit, ICU, Dialysis, Spine Procedure Room, Endoscopy, Neurointerventional Radiology, Angiography, and Radiology Short Stay.
Telemetry Certified & Step-Down Unit  - Harrington
PCT IIIs are cross trained in phlebotomy and telemetry competencies, as well as the unit clerk position. Â PCT IIIs will also be assigned to areas of higher acuity, such as the Step-Down Unit.

Supervises and utilizes all available performance management information to monitor and measure the performance of the operational unit as a team as well as the individual performance of team members.
Ensures that the appropriate internal controls, backups, and policy guidelines are communicated to department leaders so that immediate testing is completed prior to implementing any new processes as to minimize the calculated risks associated with the new process.
Develops unit specific systems to ensure an environment that emphasizes patient courtesy and responsive service delivery.
Supervises and resolves patient complaints and requests for service immediately and courteously.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides instruction to pathology residents, fellows and pathology assistant students in surgical and autopsy pathology, acting as a resource and mentor.
- Collaborates with interprofessional team members to provide clinical expertise, providing appropriate clinical judgment and support interprofessional health care team.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs gross dissection of large and small surgical specimens, using standard dissection protocols, identifying and submitting pathologic tissues for histological processing and evaluation. Dictates accurate and precise gross descriptions for each specimen.
- Assists wit dissection and tissue sampling of specimens sent for intra-operative consultation.
- Photographs specimens for documentation and for use in presentations and publications. Maintains digital photography database.
- Completes overflow cases from other peripheral hospitals as needed. Available to provide coverage at other Houston Methodist laboratory entities as needed.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews all frozen section reports on a monthly basis for quality assurance, with final review and assessment by pathologists.
- Collects cases for quality assurance retrospective review.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and adherence to safety procedures.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement providing recommendations impacting quality and safety targets, collaborating with the interprofessional team. Contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes all available work time by assisting others and performing additional tasks as appropriate.
- Works in conjunction with department to reduce any waste of resources and materials and perpetuate financial stewardship and growth.
