This position performs assigned tasks to aid in the provisions of patient care and daily operation of the Nursing Unit in accordance with established nursing policies and procedures. Provides patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Pennsylvania Department of Health Nursing Assistant Certification
EXPERIENCE:
1. One (1) year recent experience in a clinical setting providing Direct Patient Care or completion of or current enrollment in a health-related program that has provided the ability to perform Nursing Care Assistant skills; i.e. vitals, intake and output, feeding, and bathing.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provides and assists with patient care including basic hygiene, comfort, support and safety measures, nutrition and elimination needs, simple treatments and procedures, vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring and mobility utilizing proper tools and body mechanics appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
2. Receives and communicates patient information accurately; recognizes when to call or report information to the nurse.
3. Orients patient/significant other to the unit and the patient room upon admission and ongoing.
4. Answers call lights and performs purposeful rounding timely and appropriately ensuring patient/family needs are being met.
5. Documents assigned tasks according to policy and procedures of the unit
6. Cleans all patient equipment as per policy, tags defective equipment and notifies appropriate department for repair.
7. Performs efficiently in emergency situations i.e. Code 68, Code Yellow
8. Prepares and/or transports patients and performs courier duties for the department. (i.e. interunit transfers)
9. Restocks and ensures adequate supplies for patient care such as isolation supplies, linen, etc. per unit.
10. Monitors and records temperature logs according to unit.
11. Maintains a neat and orderly nursing unit, hallway and utility room.
12. Other duties as assigned.

This job performs various laboratory functions which support the department which may include phlebotomy; specimen receiving and processing into the LIS; centrifugation; aliquoting, labeling and distribution of specimens to the appropriate test sites. Performs waived and moderately complex procedures; maintain and monitor equipment; and perform appropriate quality control.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Work Experience
Required - Experience working in a controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Preferred - 1 year hospital based phlebotomy experience
Certifications
Required - Current License as a Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee in the state of practice
The Laboratory Assistant Trainee license will only be valid for this position during the first 180 days from the date of hire. Louisiana License as a Laboratory Assistant must be acquired and submitted to laboratory management within 180 days from date of hire
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.

Major Responsibilities:

- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
- Provides basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care.
- Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services.
- Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
- Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
- Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy - butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, etc., with demonstrated competency and under clinical supervision.
- Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
- Participates in patient centered initiatives, care management, performance and quality improvement activities.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Must perform and be proficient with all of the following procedures if performed at assigned facility which include scrub CT guided invasive procedures, angiography, cardiac, cyber-knife, venography, cerebral, PET/CT, and 3D reformatting including cardiac, vascular and neurological.
- Obtains medical history from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
- Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
- Prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assists in the proper scanning techniques. Provides measurements and additional slices for accurate interpretation with direction from the Radiologist.
- Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
- Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
- Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.
- Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.

Join our collaborative progressive care unit nursing team at Aurora Medical Center Grafton. Our progressive care unit is a 16-bed unit caring for our cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) patient population-lobe resections, esophagectomy, etc. Cardiac overflow patients, stroke, increase monitoring capabilities, cardiac drips, insulin drips, overflow patients needing higher acuity of care. This unit offers an excellent learning environment for both newly licensed and experienced RNs.

Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing

Working with the department manager, the RN Charge Nurse provides leadership and clinical expertise on their respective shift and department. Minimum Qualifications
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Unit Specific Certification as required (i.e., ACLS, PALS, etc.).

The Critical Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner in the Critical Care and Emergency Department settings.
