Job Description:
A Medical assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs. A Medical Assistant will be responsible for communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
Shift Details: 40 hours/week, Full Time. Monday- Friday 7:30am-5:30pm with a rotating day off during the week.

As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:
- Providing Patient Care: Under the direction of the Clinician, providing care to patients by assisting the provider to gather information that is relative to the patient’s visit and condition.
- Effective Communication: Communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
- Team Collaboration: Working with cross functional teams to collaborate on patient care. Attention to detail and follow-through are key components in helping to provide the care that is needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- This position requires one of the following:Proof of completion of a Medical Assistant programORat least one year of Medical Assistant work experienceORcurrent active and in good standing RN/LPN license to practice nursing in the state of Utah
- Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date
- Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
- Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
- Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
- Utah Only:If certified with less than one year of MA experience, caregivers may attend a yearlong MA residency program
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
- Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
- Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

1. Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.

3. Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of PTAs, Rehab Techs, students, and volunteers.
4. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital’s organization's goals and objectives.
5. Supervision of physical therapy students and volunteers. Will provide supervision of therapy assistants in accordance with regulatory standards.
6. Submits accurate charges for services rendered for patients, according to departmental policies and procedures utilizing the billing system via the patient’s EMR.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Performs laboratory testing of biological specimens in an acute setting in any/all specialty areas using manual or automated techniques. Uses independent judgment and cognitive skills to report timely and accurate laboratory results.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated. Monitors workflow and makes necessary adjustments to complete work in an appropriate timeframe.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Performs and documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Performs and documents quality control; evaluates quality control results and takes corrective action when indicated.

- Provides direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments such as the ED, ICU and OR during a high acuity patient event. This includes transfusion services, attending codes, performing testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding and gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree required. This aligns with current professional entry standards, as the DPT has been the recognized entry-level credential for all new graduates since 2016; prior bachelor’s or master’s-level degrees may be accepted only where consistent with applicable licensure requirements. Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by applicable state professional standards.
Certification / Registration / License
Physical Therapy License in the State of applicable state or South Carolina must be licensed in the state upon which you work. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required.

Work Experience
- 1-year experience as a licensed PT in a clinical care setting or home health preferred.
- Pediatric setting – 1 year pediatric experience within the past 5 years preferred or education and training may be provided by Advocate Health At Home.

Performs administrative, information, technical and clerical functions required to facilitate the workflow and efficient operations of the department. Major Responsibilities:
Serves as first point of contact for potential biorepository donors. Includes obtaining informed consent of participants, tagging the patient’s chart as research tissue donor, initiating collection form, delivering required blood specimens to the lab, identifying the date and time of surgical procedure, and communicating with OR and pathology staff.
Utilizes effective communication skills to discuss informed consent with potential biorepository participant. Maintains a positive working relationship with the staff of ancillary areas, such as pre-anesthesia testing, laboratory/pathology, physician offices and tumor registry.
Manages supplies/equipment in Cancer Life Center. Orders supplies for research department and orders and maintains necessary supplies for biorepository.
Participates in the biorepository process by reviewing surgery schedule with research nurse to identify potential participants and reviews pre-anesthesia testing schedule to identify time to meet patients. Tags patient chart as a potential tissue donor. Meets with patient to obtain informed consent, ensuring that original consent is placed in patient chart and that copies go to patient and research office. Ensures that blood specimens are picked up and delivered to pathology in a timely manner. Initiates blood and tissue collection forms. Maintains communication with surgeon’s office, operating room, and pathology staff. Prepares thank you letter for director of pathology signature and mails to biorepository participants.
Manages data through manual entry and utilization of multiple computer programs. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Cerner, etc.). Creates appropriate data bases as needed as well as reports. Schedules any room reservations as needed for meetings. Picks up and distributes mail. Assists Oncology Research Supervisor with printing, copying and delivery requirements. Maintains electronic biorepository log. Obtains copy of biorepository patient’s pathology report through Cerner. Prepares and delivers biorepository shipping log to pathology department to accompany specimen samples when shipped to main repository. - Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
- Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:

Under the direction of a Sports Medicine Physician, the Athletic Trainer will assist in evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries and sports related injuries.
Join our orthopedic team as a Clinic Athletic Trainer supporting our Hand & Wrist Surgery specialists. In this collaborative outpatient setting, you'll work closely with surgeons, therapists, and other caregivers to provide patient education, clinical support, care coordination, and rehabilitation guidance throughout the treatment journey. - Practices as physician extender under a directing physician in accordance with state practice act.
