The Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop and validate an adaptive proton therapy workflow for upright proton treatment.
This project will focus on integrating upright CT imaging with an upright proton therapy system to support anatomical assessment, dose recalculation, dose accumulation, adaptive decision-making, and plan adaptation throughout the course of treatment. The goal is to create an accurate, reproducible, and clinically efficient adaptive workflow for both pediatric and adult patients.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate an adaptive proton therapy workflow for upright treatment
- Conduct phantom, volunteer, and potentially patient-based studies
- Evaluate upright positioning and anatomical changes over the course of treatment
- Develop automated tools for:
- image registration
- dose evaluation
- adaptive planning
- quality assurance
- Perform end-to-end validation of the full adaptive workflow
- Establish quantitative criteria for determining when plan adaptation should be triggered
- Support development of a clinically efficient workflow for adaptive upright proton therapy
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of:
- medical physicists
- radiation oncologists
- imaging scientists
- engineers
- industry collaborators
- Present findings at major scientific meetings
- Lead and contribute to peer-reviewed publications resulting from the project
Qualifications
- PhD in Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Radiation therapy
- Medical imaging
- Image registration
- Treatment planning
- Proton therapy
- Programming
- Workflow automation

Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred – Associate’s degree
Work Experience
Required – One year of related hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, front line registration, financial counseling, banking, hotel retail and/or customer service related experience
Certifications
Preferred - Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Strong interpersonal skills.

Job Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members.
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Ensures all required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate.
- Efficiently and accurately gathers and inputs patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explains insurance benefits and collects co-pays, deductibles and self-pay portions due.
- Performs financial analysis of each case and informs patient of financial responsibility
- Balances Cash drawer daily, prepares deposit slips and follow closing cash drawer process at the end of each shift.
- Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The Radiation Therapy Assistant PRN assists Radiation Therapists in the care of patients for Radiation Therapy treatments. The Radiation Therapy Assistant also helps with transferring/transporting and observing patients. CORE FUNCTIONS

2. Generate templated reports specific to quality assurance measurements to indicate both quality assurance completion and adherence with predetermined departmental standards, with responsible and timely reporting of any issues or non-adherence.
3. Assist Radiation Oncology staff with machine quality assurance directly related to morning warm up procedures to ready the clinic for the workday.
4. Assist Radiation Oncology personnel with distribution of supplies for radiation therapy treatment, quality assurance tasks and beam calibration activities as needed.
5. Participate and assist in monthly, bi-annual, and annual beam collecting activities under the guidance of Radiation Oncology Physics staff, assist with data reporting and preparation as directed by physics.
6. Assist with setup procedures as directed and under the supervision on Radiation Therapy staff.
7. Participate in Radiation Oncology meetings/projects as directed by Radiation Oncology personnel, including but not limited to department chart rounds, service line meetings, section meetings, directed department teaching by faculty, or individual instruction assigned by Radiation Oncology staff to further understanding in the field.
8. Assist with routine calibration of Radiation Oncology equipment under the supervision of Radiation Oncology staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Must be detail oriented and understand the important of the technical procedures related to QA. They must be willing to learn new skills and then be able to demonstrate capability of performing those tasks unassisted.

The Radiation Therapy Assistant assists Radiation Therapists in the care of patients for Radiation Therapy treatments. - Attends to patient’s comfort during transport and in the Radiation Oncology department. Reports condition changes during transport to Radiation Therapist/nurse or physician.
- Performs daily work assignments in an efficient, organized manner and with accuracy, such as assisting with inpatient/outpatient schedule coordination of patients.
- Provides education to patients, patient families, and nursing units regarding radiation therapy procedures.
- Retrieves and/or creates patients’ electronic folders and accesses reports and other patient or exam data via O2 and ARIA

- Coordinates and manages all resources necessary to provide optimal nursing care, including availability of staff resources, patient care supplies and automated patient care systems. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant or a physical therapist program
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- One (1) year of experience preferred
- Demonstrates leadership skills in either operational functions or clinical program
- Occasional/frequent lifting up to 75/100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting
- Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary
- The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position
Principal Accountabilities
- Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient. Implements a physical therapy treatment program as described by a physical therapist’s written plan of care.
- Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of the PT, and treatments are modified only as allowed by the plan of care. Is able to demonstrate physical therapy skills competently.
- May screen patients for possible PT services under the direction of a PT.
- Monitors patient’s condition and progress towards treatment goals.
- Supervises rehabilitation technicians and others with regard to patient care.
- Motivates and instructs patient/caregiver using appropriate method.
- Communicates effectively with the supervising physical therapist, patient/caregiver and other professional colleagues to include physician and insurance companies.
- Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical record and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently.
- Serves as a clinical resource to colleagues, other health care professionals or to the community in general. Serves as Clinical Instructor for PTA interns.
- Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
- May serve as a clinical instructor for PTA Interns.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Work Shift:
Day - 8 Hour (United States of America)As Needed BasisSchedules appointments for new and established patients and serves as the primary point of care for these patients and their families. As a Radiation Therapist Technician, you will provide prescribed radiation therapy to patients of all age groups.
You will deliver the doses of radiation therapy, position patients, explain the procedure, and answer any questions.
