- Performs Physical Therapy evaluations according to departmental policy and the needs of the individual patient.
- Establishes appropriate measurable goals in patient treatment and develops an appropriate treatment plan.
- Administers an appropriate and effective physical therapy treatment program.
- Performs discharge planning responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
- Performs all documentation responsibilities pertinent to patient care legibly and in compliance with departmental policy.

SUMMARY: Administer and evaluate a wide variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of primary pulmonary disease and other medical problems that may affect a patient’s pulmonary status. Perform other related duties as required. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs according to the Respiratory Services Policy & Procedures Manual (204-211) a variety of therapeutic procedures, including:- Intermittent positive pressure breathing- Chest physiotherapy- Postural drainage- Nebulizererosol therapy- Incentive Spirometry- Breathing exercises- Tracheal irrigation and aspirationAdministers all inhalant medications with a scientific understanding of actions, expected responses, and adverse reactions to include:- Bronchodilators - Mucolytics - Antibiotics - Wetting agents- Steriods- Chromalin drugs- Anti-fungal agentsSets-up and performs CPAP, Bi-Pap and non-invasive ventilation.Provides and monitors continuous oxygen and humification therapy. Instructs patient on the use of equipment and monitor equipment function, proper use of equipment, and compliance with written physician’s orders.Initiates, monitors, and provides respiratory care to all patients dependent on mechanical ventilation for life support (P&P Manual, Section 301-310).- Adult mechanical ventilation- Neonatal/pediatric ventilationPerforms equipment check-out procedures prior to use to ensure proper function, adjusts all ventilatory parameters, initiates and monitors mechanical ventilation, and makes adjustment to coordinate the ventilator with the patient.Demonstrates knowledge of all ventilator modes.Nebulizes fluids, irrigates airway, and performs deep tracheal suction and cuff care as needed.Monitors oxygen concentration, ventilatory volumes, muscular strength, humification, ventilating pressures, sputum collection and characteristics, breath sounds, and changes in respiratory/pulmonary condition and ability.Monitors equipment for proper function.Demonstrates ability to properly perform arterial blood gas analysis, as indicated, when authorized by the physician (P&P Manual, Section 401-407).- Adult arterial blood gases- Infants/children arterial blood gases- Blood Gas Lab Safety- Call physician with critical values- Calibration- Preventive maintenance- Quality control proceduresDemonstrates ability to accurately transcribe ABG results and correlates results with the clinical situation. Makes arrangements to improve oxygenation and acid-base balance.Interprets and executes all orders prescribed by a physician.Demonstrates ability to review history and physical, lab, and X-ray reports, and interdisciplinary progress notes to assess patient’s condition and ability, therapeutic needs, or contraindications to ordered therapy.Consistently works within the physician’s order to deliver the therapy appropriate for the patient’s condition.Demonstrates ability to determine best methods for therapy such as appropriate pressure and flow rates for intermittent positive pressure breathing, positions required for chest physiotherapy/postural drainage, types of breathing exercises, sensitivity, flow rates, pressure limits/control, ventilatory waveforms, and need for suctionrrigation for patients on mechanical ventilation.Responds to hazards of therapies in an appropriate manner, including life threatening situations.Instructs patient on rationale and proper procedures for all therapies.Monitors pulmonary and cardiac response and results of all therapies.Performs accurate and complete documentation of all findings to physician via medical record.Demonstrates ability to evaluate changes in patient’s condition and determines if current therapy is successful in meeting therapeutic objectives.Accepts verbal/telephone orders from physicians when appropriate and transcribes accurately in the medical record (see P & P Manual, Section 106A).Demonstrates ability to perform Respiratory Therapy Protocols/Consults upon certification (P & P Manual, Section 220). Obtains respiratory history and performs patient assessment, including inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation, and review of diagnostic data such as PFTs, ABGs, EKGs, reports, X-rays, and blood work.For Respiratory Protocols/Consults, provides assessment of the need for therapyntervention and develops a Respiratory Care Plan. Demonstrates ability to properly perform patient assessments daily and alters, as necessary, the specific mode and frequency of therapy.Demonstrates knowledge of proper use of manual resuscitators:- Adult and child manual resuscitators- Infant resuscitatorsDemonstrates ability to accurately perform diagnostic procedures including:- Bedside pulmonary function screening- EKGs- Oximetry- End tidal carbon dioxide measurements and obtain sputum by inducing, if necessary, for laboratory studies.Initiates and maintains life saving measures in emergency situations, assists physician with intubation, auscultates chest to evaluate endotracheal tube position.Demonstrates understanding of proper use of all cardio-respiratory equipment including:- EKG machines- Oxygen delivery devices- Ohio pediatric tents- Oxygen analyzers- Blenders- Spirometers- NIF (negative inspiratory force meters)- Incentive spirometers- Air compressors- Liquid oxygen systems- Cuff pressure manometers- Heated/cool nebulizers Obtains special certifications at Newport Hospital for performance of:- Arterial Blood Gases- Respiratory Therapy Protocols/ConsultsAs requested, accompanies patient during ambulance transport from Newport Hospital to another facility, performing respiratory care as needed.Demonstrates the ability to assess patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify patient’s requirement relative to his/her age-specific or special needs, and to provide care needed as described in department policies and procedures for neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and general patients.Handles and stores medical gases in a safe manner.Prepares and delivers report on patient’s condition, progress and effects of therapy to Respiratory Care Practitioners coming on duty.Communicates regularly with physicians regarding any abnormal effects of therapy, abnormal diagnostic exams, or any other respiratory/pulmonary concerns.Acts as in-house resource for staff members, physicians, and patients requiring respiratory/pulmonary assistance.Sets clinical priorities daily per policy and procedure.Assists Cardiopulmonary Services Director in the orientation and training of new staff and students assigned to Newport Hospital.Participates in applicable off-site activities including health fairs and school career days.If applicable, perform esophageal studies including PH Ambulatory, Motility, or Bravo Capsule procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications:Rhode Island Respiratory Care Practitioner license (RCP), CRT required, RRT preferred. Associate degree from Cardio-Respiratory Care Program. Current CPR certification.

The CV Invasive Specialist I performs duties necessary for cardiac catheterization procedures at a technical and professional level requiring some proctoring and supervision of technical detail. The CV Invasive Specialist I assumes responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required. Follows Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals (ACVP) Scope of Practice or for Electrophysiology the NASPE Standards of Professional Practice for the Allied Professional in Pacing and Electrophysiology.
An RN will be present to supervise the care of patients during moderate sedation.

- Participate in procedure room preparation and post procedure turn around.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides clinical assessment and psychotherapy services for defined patient population. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides assessment and direct psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups. Coordinates all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge, interacting with the physician and other members of the clinical treatment team to provide quality patient care.Must be independently licensed in Arizona to bill out appropriate CPT codes for independently license clinicians.
2. Provides education and orientation for patients, families and others to assigned treatment program to aid in therapeutic process. 3. Monitors patients on an ongoing basis to continually assess needs and facilitate treatment and interventions. Documents clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan, diagnostic summaries, and progress charting in a timely manner to assure comprehensive and quality patient care.
4. Actively participates as member of the multidisciplinary treatment team and maintains effective working relationships with physicians and peers.

This position is accountable for documentation of all components of pharmaceutical care they deliver to patients. Oversees the activities of pharmacy technicians and interns, coordinating workflow and approving medications prior to being dispensed. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served. Must assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements and provide pharmaceutical care based on those needs. Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile or non-sterile compounded medications, in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with company policies and procedures and established regulatory requirements. 6. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, which may include management of technology, inventory management, and accurate record keeping. Supervises and directs the work of pharmacy technicians, interns, and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires unrestricted Pharmacist licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
If not licensed in the state of practice, must have completed the Board of Pharmacy application process within 30 days of job offer. Must be licensed within 90 days of hire unless the delay is due to the State Board of Pharmacy.

Interprets physician referrals, as appropriate, and completes musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations utilizing appropriate methods. Demonstrates advanced evaluation, assessment and treatment skills with complex patients or specific diagnosis or program area.
Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results, functional goals and by utilizing appropriate techniques. Monitors and evaluates outcomes and appropriately adjusts the individualized treatment plan based on the patient's response to treatment and provides status updates to physicians and other teammates, as necessary for patient care. Identifies factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort and attends to these needs. Recognizes potential issues and the need to advocate for patient by working with the physician and/or key professionals. Acts as a department and system wide resource within area of Clinical Specialization for treatment plans and outcomes.
Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, transition planning within the continuum of care and ordering equipment as indicated/appropriate. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to assist in achieving optimum care for the patient.
Completes all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards with appropriate co- signatures to record patient care and progress of each patient assigned: including patient evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries as appropriate. Completes daily statistics, billing and scheduling per department policy. Applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. Responsible for maintaining site/department established productivity standards. Serves as a role model in documentation. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all billing and documentation policies, procedures and timelines.
Responsible for cleaning up after patient treatment, putting away equipment, and keeping area neat and orderly. Performs various manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Demonstrates skill in use of modalities, exercise equipment and other devices that are available in area worked per department orientation checklist. Demonstrates knowledge of indications and contraindications of modalities and exercise. Promotes patient safety by participating in safety initiatives as requested and appropriately follows all safety and infection control measures pertaining to the general working environment.
Acts as a clinical resource for the department and the system and acts as liaison to physicians/program leadership in area of expertise. Establishes and maintains liaisons with physicians to promote programs and address any physician questions/concerns. Mentors and facilitates clinical problem solving with other staff. Develops training and/or clinical guidelines, implements staff orientation, competency and educational activities in area of expertise. Promotes and develops rehabilitation programs, leads program or referral development projects, and develops and presents educational programs to the community (i.e. industry, schools, etc.). Collaborates effectively with leadership in developing and upgrading existing programs and services at the site and/or system level.
Participates in performance improvement activities designed to identify and resolve problems affecting patient care outcomes and to improve quality of care. Manages assigned caseload, informing site leadership of coverage needs and ability to cover; assists with coverage, based on department needs and regional needs.
Pursues professional growth through participation in continuing education courses, department in-services, and reading professional literature and consistently introduces new ideas for consideration and implementation. Orients new staff to clinical and department policies as requested. Participates in the evaluation process of co-workers by providing verbal or written feedback as requested.
May supervise physical therapy assistants following all applicable state and local compliance requirements. Includes delegating patients to assistive personnel while providing direction, recommendations regarding treatment and ongoing supervision while maintaining responsibility for patient plan of care and goals. May supervise physical therapy extenders (rehab aides/techs) in administering treatments to patients and will teach them appropriate techniques to perform with specific patients. Supports the student clinical education program by monitoring, observing and providing work direction to a minimum of one student per year unless students are unavailable.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school or educational requirements commensurate with the date of graduation. Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by applicable state professional standards.
Certification / Registration / License
Licensed Physical Therapist in the State upon which you work. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (obtained within 90 days unless department leader has determined is not required) by the American Heart Association (AHA).
The senior level clinician should have certification within an area that directly impacts their scope of practice within 18 months, or advanced knowledge, as determined by the advancement application approved by Rehab Leadership.
Certifications must be provided by a professional association, certifying body or institution authorized to award the industry accepted certification within the practitioner’s field of specialization.
Work Experience
Requires 5 years of experience with preferred 7 years of experience in physical therapy, as determined by the Rehab leadership. Physical Therapist position at a hospital, outpatient, or other relevant setting. Clinical expertise in specific area of rehabilitation; specialized area/skill noted by advance certification as determined by the Rehab leadership.
