We conduct a Family Medicine Residency, Internal Medicine Residency, Cardiology Fellowship, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and a School of Radiologic Technology. As a Outpatient Specialty Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will accept responsibility and accountability for the delivery of care through the use of the nursing process. Directs and guides patient and family education. Cares for all types of oncology/hematology and related patients in Medical Oncology while maintaining professional nursing standards. Practices nursing within the Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa professional nursing practice plan
Schedule:
- Full time 40 hours a week
- M-F 8:00a-4:30p
General Requirements:
- Demonstrates customer service to others as a number one priority and accomplishes this by integrating Service Excellence into all aspects of the work day, taking responsibility for service recovery and working for outcomes that delight the customer.
- Evaluates patient/family response to nursing interventions. Acts as a resource for the nursing interventions. Acts as a resource for the nursing process to other clinical nurses.
- Assesses patients and identifies common physical and psychosocial needs. Develops ability to identify unusual, complex physical and psychosocial needs.
- Guides and directs patient care activities for above indicated population, by utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills and evidence based practice. Triages patient phone calls and assesses for level of care needed, referring to physicians or providing nursing intervention as assessment indicates.
- Assists the physicians/midlevel provider in patient care activities (consultations, exams, procedures, follow-ups, treatments.)
- Provides or facilitates learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of the patient and family by assessing the learning needs and by formulating and initiating a teaching plan to meet those needs.
Serves as an educator to patients and families regarding management of parental and oral antineoplastic therapy administration, safe-handling, medical adherence, and sideeffect management of said therapy.
- Collaborates with members of the inter-disciplinary health care team to achieve desired patient care outcomes.
- Adapts positively to the ever-changing health care environment by supporting technology and process changes. Willing to learn new things, is open to change and maintains a calm positive manner under stressful conditions.
- Identifies, participates and takes action in activities, which solve problems, promotes better patient care, nursing development and professional growth, and supports process improvement teams, which influence customer satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and financial stability.
- Promotes and maintains positive working relationships in a collegial manner with coworkers, medical staff and personnel of other departments and demonstrates effective communication skills. Assists others needing help as necessary and displays flexibility in job responsibilities.
- Participates in achieving the department budget by managing own work hours, flexing and staffing to volumes, keeping OT to a minimum, utilizing supplies appropriately and by continually applying process improvement techniques to eliminate waste in work flows.
- Participates in the application of process improvement principles by assisting in development and data collection. Participates in the department’s Culture of Safety/Engagement Action Plan.
- Attends and participates in department staff and committee meetings.
- Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. (if applicable)
- Communicates with and performs duties following MercyOne – North Iowa Guiding Behaviors.
- Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
- Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Mercy One – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy.
- Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Director/Supervisor.
- Participates in activities, which promote better patient care, nursing development, and professional growth.
- Develops/reviews departmental policies and procedures, nursing standards of care and practice, etc.
- Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
- Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
- Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
- Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne –North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values,and Cultural Beliefs.

Education:
- Current RN license in the state of Iowa.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate from an RN program required
- Must complete and successfully pass Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) courses:
- Cancer Basics and Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration courses after 9 months of employment, must successfully complete the ONS/ONCC
- Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate course, and renew every 2 years.
- Strongly preferred OCN certification within 2 years of employment.
- Prefer minimum of 4 years of experience in a health care setting, inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice or clinic experience, all possess transferable skills or knowledge valuable to the Cancer Center

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN License in state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.
- Current driver’s license, insured and reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within 4 years of their start date.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
Note: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as of April 27, 2025. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date will follow the requirements in place at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years working as an RN
- Previous experience in an Acute Care, Home Health, or Hospice setting
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:

Major Responsibilities:
Oversees pharmaceutical care, including retrieving and evaluating biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens
Uses effective patient education techniques to provide counseling to patients and caregivers, including information on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and medication administration
Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens based on relevant biomedical literature. Implements recommendations effectively and utilizes policies and procedures and documents in the appropriate format.
Reviews and accurately interprets medication orders and prescriptions
Participates in the management of medical emergencies when applicable
Actively supports department medication safety and quality improvement activities, including the reporting of events through appropriate channels

Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.

- Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy - butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, etc., with demonstrated competency and under clinical supervision.
- Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
- Participates in patient centered initiatives, care management, performance and quality improvement activities.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

The Banner Compounding Pharmacy is a state of the art facility that utilizes technology for inventory management, storage, verification of products, and standardization of procedures for quality control. This includes a Trulla drug ordering system and automated TPN compounders. The Banner Compounding Pharmacy specializes in custom-made, sterile preparations. This is an exciting new venture for the Banner System, and on the cutting edge of regulatory compliance. We are going above and beyond to meet regulations and working with the State Board of Pharmacy on regulatory changes to assure top quality and patient safety. This is NOT a hospital clean room or traditional compounding pharmacy.
We are looking for a full-time Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Chandler, AZ! Our site's hours of operation are 8AM - 7PM. This position is 40 hours per week, four 10-hour shifts, 9AM- 7:30PM including every other weekend.
Banner Pharmacy Services is a recognized leader in healthcare and trusted partner in proactively providing innovative pharmacy services through excellence in integration, care coordination, medication management and services to make a difference in people's lives. Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for the management of the Banner formulary, development of standardized system wide clinical pharmacy services, and management of adverse drug event preventions. Clinical Pharmacy Services provides collaborative drug therapy management and educational interventions in patient care to optimize medication therapy, improve outcomes, promote wellness, and disease prevention. As a division, Banner Pharmacy services provides excellent patient care across our entire continuum through convenient access, improved medication outcomes and innovative pharmacy practices.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist. Performs routine duties in packaging, distribution and record keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Assists in preparing compounded and intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and hazardous or chemotherapeutic agents. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. May educate, train, and oversee the activities of the Pharmacy Technician, Technician Externs and Volunteers. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Selects and/or prepares medications, under direct supervision, as indicated by policy and procedures and batch orders. Places medications in designated area for pharmacist to check, prepares medication orders for delivery to facilities as required. May also maintain databases and troubleshoot automated technology malfunctions.
2. Understands all regulatory requirements for receiving, compounding, repackaging, distribution, and documentation as a manufacture for controlled substances. Consistently adheres to all storage and inventory movement documentation requirements for controlled substances. Understands and can demonstrate the process for compounding and waste management of controlled substances.
3. Understands the delivery system and packing requirements (ice blankets, locks, invoice). Attends to customers and answers telephones in a courteous and timely manner. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist.
4. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Understand all processes for ordering of supplies and for the fulfillment of orders. Understands and utilizes inventory management technology. Monitors for inventory needs. Monitor for outdated/unusable product for all areas in pharmacy (racks, refrigerators, holding areas). Appropriately rotate inventory and release of holding batches. Appropriately dispose of pharmaceutical waste. Receives and restocks medications ordered through wholesaler and other vendors. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.
5. Non-Sterile compounding: Understand and appropriately follows all product worksheets/recipes for documentation and check processes. 8. Performs and passes all quality control activities such as media-fill and gloved-fingertip. Performs and understands environmental cleaning and testing requirements. Coordinates and assists in supervising the work flow of the Pharmacy. Assists with training and ensures adherence to departmental policies and procedures. 9. Participates in the following aspects of medication use: selection, procurement and storage, and dispensing. Internal customers may include Patients, Nurses, Licensed Independent Practitioners, Nursing Directors, Department Directors, Administrators and other health care team members for the purpose of integrating services, improving patient care and ensuring effective communication systems. External customers may include local, state, and national pharmacy organizations, Joint commission, state Board of Pharmacy, colleagues and peers, educational institutions and pharmaceutical representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice. Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
One to two years of relative experience. Must possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must have good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Functions
- Oversees the development and implementation of the procedure for calibration of radiation therapy equipment in accordance with the current standards of the American Association of Physicist in Medicine (AAPM) and state and federally governed agencies and formulates and oversees all aspects of brachytherapy within the department and those procedures performed in other departments in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to maintain safety standards.
- Assumes responsibility for providing performing calibrations and quality control in compliance with state regulations and in accordance with the standards of AAPM on all therapeutic radiation machines as required by the Division of Radiation Control and commissions new or upgraded equipment to achieve compatibility with existing machines.
- Coordinates with the Chief Therapist the technical functions in the department in order to ensure that physician's instructions for simulation and treatment of patients are carried out as prescribed and intended, and directs, coordinates and performs all aspects of treatment planning, preparation of beam shaping devices, etc.
- Actively works as a Medical physicist and provides routine clinical radiation therapy physicist services, consults with oncologists on the physical aspects of patient's treatment, and assists in the development of radiation treatment plans.
- Coordinates the radioactive Materials Licenses issued by the NRC and state agencies pertaining to brachytherapy sources with the RSO, reports all variances to administrative staff and the Radiation Safety Officer, researches new equipment developments and techniques, assess the impact on and reviews existing local standards, advises on procurement of new equipment and compiles reports to initiate changes.
- Schedules rotations as appropriate between facilities, acts as an advocate for new and advanced technology, participates in the development and implementation of department Quality Improvement Plan and ensures the delivery of high quality health care.

Minimum Qualifications

- Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
- Provides basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position manages a complex caseload of patients by providing comprehensive nutritional assessments and nutrition-focused physical exams, developing and managing all aspects of appropriate nutrition care plans and monitoring outcomes of plans. Provides patient and family nutrition counseling and education. Develops Nutrition Standards of Practice and Education material in collaboration with peers. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary Health Care team providing input into patient care policies, programs, quality improvement activities and provides in-service education in areas of expertise.

1. Provides comprehensive nutrition assessment of patients' nutritional needs, to include nutrition-focused physical exams as appropriate. Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards and established practice guidelines.
2. Demonstrates and maintains competency in enteral and parenteral clinical practice protocols and oral nutrition management standard of practice as demonstrated by successful completion of initial competency exams and ongoing evaluation.
3. Initiates and manages the nutrition care, writing orders if applicable per state regulations, for all assigned patients including those receiving nutrition support (parenteral and enteral nutrition) per protocols.
4. Evaluates effectiveness of the care plan and communicates effectively to the other members of the healthcare team to provide optimal nutrition outcomes. Provides pertinent information in the medical records, patient plans of care and/or clinical pathways while meeting requirements of regulatory agencies (i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, State and Local Agencies).
5. Provides nutrition education to patients, families, staff and other health care team professionals through the development of effective teaching materials and in-service programs; Evaluates patient and/or family response to education.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs respiratory care to include but not limited to: arterial blood gas and analysis, pulse oximetry, spirometry and flow volume loops, lung volume determination, airway resistance measurement, breath diffusion capacity, bronchoprovocation testing, maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures, bronchodilator administration, diagnostic radiology procedures. Prepares, administers and monitors treatment modalities and medication delivery. Implements, monitors and evaluates ventilator support.
- Performs other procedures and tests as needed and if assigned, such as Electrocardiograms, Holter’s, and Arterial Blood Gas.
- Provides care for the physical needs of patients by executing various respiratory care concepts to maximize performance, which includes positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired results and recognizes complications / limitations associated with certain procedures. Proactively identifies how to address these for optimum outcomes.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoots, calibrates and performs preventive maintenance and quality control on all equipment and analyzers per department guidelines, documenting activities. Assembles, prepares, cleans and operates bronchoscopy equipment, monitoring equipment and accessories in accordance with manufacturing recommendations and department guidelines. Reports malfunctions.
- Provides direct assistance to physicians, performing tests as ordered, assessing and assuring quality, acceptability and reliability of results; takes corrective action and involves others as needed toward achievement of this end.
- Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities and to meet department and hospital targets for quality and safety, focusing on the task at hand and reporting near misses, and inputting errors promptly into Patient Safety Net to improve processes and identify trends.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Accurately documents all patient care and respiratory-related activities and procedures in the appropriate documentation system. Enters charges at the time service is delivered.
- Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritize daily tasks.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in practice projects focused on innovation, efficiency or improvement in patient care and activities. Embraces and enacts new care pathways or service line implementation to improve service to the community.
- Identifies own learning needs, consults with healthcare team experts and seeks continuing education opportunities to meet those needs to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute, critical and chronic patients illness and diseases within both an outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital setting.
- Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations and assesses and determines differential diagnosis. Prescribes medication, therapy and treatments accordingly.
- Interprets and evaluates patient data for the purpose of determining management and treatment of patients. Performs minor surgeries and routine procedures. Consults with physician as appropriate. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies in the field of clinical specialty trained and determined competent by a physician.
- Adjusts patient care plan by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans. Counsels, instructs and educates patients on physical and mental health including: diet, preventive health measures, health behaviors, self-care skills, disease, treatment options, and normal growth and development.
- Provides care coordination, which includes managing a variety of ancillary services, pre-operative plans, discharge planning, provider referrals and medical devices such as insulin pumps, defibrillators, and pacemakers.
- Prescribes, recommends and regulates pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies across multiple care settings, including controlled medications that are warranted by patient's diagnosis or changing medical condition.
- Prepares, dictates and signs patient care plans and summaries of patient care. Maintains records according to established standards and guidelines.
- Provides clinical direction to nursing staff regarding the continued care of patients. Follows through with nursing staff to ensure patient receives recommended care.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licenses & Certifications
- Physician Assistant license issued by the state in which the caregiver practices.
- Physician Assistant (PA-C) certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

- Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) certification issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or
- Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification issued by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration, and
