Where You Will Work:
The Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit is a state-of-the-art, 24-bed facility dedicated to the treatment of patients recovering from complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, as well as those requiring post-operative neurosurgical care. State of the art Comprehensive Stroke Center Certified. Recognized as the top 10% in the country for Neurology & Neurosurgery and Stroke care by U.S. News & World Report. Within this unit, highly skilled clinical professionals from various disciplines provide continuous, comprehensive care to patients following intricate neurosurgical procedures or facing life-threatening neurological disorders. We employ a patient-centered approach, offering extensive neurological services that support seamless continuity of care.
Patient-centered care in the Neuro ICU is achieved through effective teamwork, compassion, innovation, education, and research. Our nursing staff are proficient in operating diverse ICU equipment, such as tubes, lines, drains, invasive hemodynamic monitoring devices, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Specialized interventions include management of EVD and SEPS drains, post-thrombolytic care, and post-interventional radiology care.
Expectations We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS are required within 6 months of hire

• As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.

Job Description:
Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.
Shifts and Scheduling
Full-time, 40 hours/week. Day shifts. 6:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. or 6:45 a.m. - 7:15 p.m. On-call required with 30-minute response time. Variable weekends required
Job Essentials
- Ensures room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
- Maintains sterile field and safe environment.
- Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
- Prepares room and instruments for surgical procedure. May assist with sterile processing.
- Assists the surgical staff during the procedure, within the scope of practice.
- After procedure, cleans room and prepares for next procedure.
- Identifies emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies.

This position could be filled as a Surgical Tech II or Surgical Tech III depending on experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications (Level I)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program (ORT)
- Or graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months, but not currently eligible to sit for Tech in Surgery exam (NCCT)
- Or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years.
- Or hired for on-the-job training in a rural hospital
- Or International training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Competent in basic procedures or one or more specialty areas/facility case mix
- Able to take assigned call
- Registered through DORA in the state of Colorado
In addition to meeting Level I requirements (above), to qualify for a Level II/III role, you must also meet the following requirements:

- Registered through DORA in the state of Colorado
- Prior approval from the Surgical Services Director Council must be obtained before caregivers are moved into this role.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Our 32-bed Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Unit specializes in providing comprehensive care to children with cancer, hematologic disorders, and those undergoing bone marrow transplants. Our patients range from infancy to young adults. In this fast-paced and high acuity environment, our nurses administer many IV medications and blood products. Because of this acuity, our ratios are 2-3 patients per nurse.
To support our nurses’ professional growth, we spread out learning and skill development over two years, starting with chemotherapy certification and advancing through tiered bone marrow transplant education. This structured approach ensures our team delivers the highest standard of care while continuously building expertise in oncology and hematology nursing.

Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results.
Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. On request, records contrast type and amount.

7. After training and skills testing may perform assigned and/or all ordered POCT tests and maintain quality control testing and logs.
8. Schedules additional ancillary testing as needed. Assists providers when possible in completing requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
9. Act as chaperone during medical examinations.
10. Ensure medical records and test results are available for visit, including those from referring physicians. Inspect/review medical records to maintain correct order and completeness.
11. Monitors nurse call system and relays information to appropriate staff telephone calls and transmits information to appropriate staff.
12. Provides assistance and information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
13. Participates in Quality Assurance Program to assure quality patient services are provided.
14. Generate required patient charge data according to WVU Medicine outpatient procedures.
15. Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment for patient care needs by preparing orders and reporting needs to supervisor. Demonstrate knowledge of use and care of all equipment including printers, embossers, and computers.
16. Assist with maintenance of inventory and equipment on assigned outpatient unit.
17. May schedule and coordinate new and return appointments using computerized system according to WVU Medicine outpatient clinic policy and procedures. Schedule and coordinate diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
18. May assure registration of patients. Collect vital information for purposes of patient identification and billing purposes and enter data into computer. Obtain charts and fee sheets necessary for patient visits. Obtain signatures from release of information and consent to treatment.
19. May assist Registration Specialist with deposit of money and with late night coverage. May assist Manager/Supervisor with unit correspondence using computer software.
20. May process and mail letters to patients.

Job Description:
This position is responsible for transporting patients, focusing on quality, safety, and customer service, while providing care and compassion to patients, families, visitors and staff.

Essential Functions
- Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner.
- Uses appropriate and approved transport pathways to ensure confidentiality.
- Uses appropriate methods of travel and equipment as directed.
- Uses Safe Patient Handling equipment as indicated.
- Uses isolation precautions and/or standard precautions appropriately.
- Places soiled linen in designated areas. Dresses carts and wheelchairs with linen per procedure.
- Cleans transport equipment before and after every single patient and returns to appropriate storage areas.
- Knows location of fire extinguishers and fire pull boxes.
- Notifies patient nurse when taking or returning patient to/from room and notifies test site staff when patient arrives for test.
- Utilizes written Patient Handoff Form and ensures that handoff form is filled out prior to initiating transport and signs and turns in form immediately after completion of transport.
- Writes test location on the whiteboard in patient room when leaving with patient.
- Notifies patient nurse or test site staff of any problems that occurred during transport concerning patient condition or safety.
- Responds to pager or other communication device in a timely and effective manner.
- Communicates openly with operators and with other staff members.
- Informs test sites and operators of any delays and clears transports when completed.

- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
