The professional registered nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The Registered Nurse accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.The Registered Nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at the advanced beginner level necessary to provide care that is relevant to the patient(s) under their care, as well as apply principles of growth and development over the life span. The Registered Nurse also must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. This role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse.

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:
1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms.
2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.
3. Visual acuity must be within normal range.
4. Hearing within normal range is required (i.e. to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.)

The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program (clinical ladder) to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality nursing, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses.
To apply for the next level, the CAPE nurse must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of nursing experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level. In addition, nurses who are approved for levels 3, 4, 5, or 6 must complete and submit five competencies on an annual basis to maintain their current level.
Level 1
- No experience required
- All graduate nurses with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher
Level 2
- Meets requirements for previous level
- One year of experience.
Level 3
- Meets requirements for previous levels
- Two years of experience, plus one specialty certification
- Certification is Preferred but not required

Level 4

POSITION SUMMARY: The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of sports medicine patients, (including biological, social and psychological assessments). The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, peri-operative services, and coordinates discharge planning (as applicable). What you will do:
Assess and prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing medical history and administering preoperative medications. Monitor patients in the Pre-Op area, ensuring they are stable and ready for surgery.
Provide immediate post-anesthesia care, monitoring vital signs and assessing for complications.
Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Performs venipuncture and collects other specimens form newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Collaborates with patient care regarding difficult venipunctures.
- Receives and sorts lab specimens. Packages and tracks specimens for transport. Processes specimens for testing including centrifuging, aliquoting, and storing samples. Loads instruments while maintaining proper specimen identification.
- Performs limited testing under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), 1988 guidelines according to established policies and procedures. Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system.
- May assists physicians with patient procedures and prepare basic histology stains and uses special handling and knowledge to process pathology send-outs and referrals. Uses specialized knowledge for cleaning and routine general maintenance for histology equipment (cryostat, grossing station). Completes the needed requirements for CAP histology checklist.
- May support histology and/or cytology services. Accessions and tracks surgical specimens in Pathology computer system.
- May perform skin puncture and port access functions to obtain specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol, priority and scheduled draw times. Maintains current knowledge and skills necessary to insert and remove port access devices.

Major Responsibilities

Office location is Oak Brook, IL with a focus on Advocate Health facilities in the NORTH CHICAGO area where this manager's staff of medical interpreters will serve patients, families and healthcare providers.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and assumes accountability for the development and implementation of system-wide translation and interpretation systems. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and organizational policy.
- Participates in strategic planning related to the provision of language services throughout system.
- Provides leadership and accountability for quality monitoring and improvement initiatives related to provision of translation and interpretation services.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with management, employees and medical staff to develop their abilities to work with and understand the services available to LEP (Limited English Proficient) and the deaf/hard of hearing.
- Designs activities to improve, promote and publicize Translation and Interpretation Services within the health system.
- Develops capital and operating budgets in conjunction with the director.
- Monitors budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action.
- Manages activities of employees. Facilitates training and continuing education of employees. Provides direction and support to subordinate employees to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

Education Required:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration OR Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or equivalent knowledge).
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in a medical environment performing medical verbal and written interpretation and translation, leading and prioritizing staff work, and acting as a resource to staff on complex cases.
- Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in a medical environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Possesses professional command of bilingual medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models.
- Possesses knowledge concerning the ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC).

Position Title

Sunday - Tuesday 7pm - 7amThe University of Kansas Health System Phlebotomist is a position within the clinical laboratory that is responsible for interpreting orders for lab work from providers within The University of Kansas Health System which are entered in the Hospital Information System and orders from outside providers that are presented as a manual order. The Phlebotomist must be able to interpret these orders and accurately identify the correct tube type for each test.
The Phlebotomist follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures, and performs positive patient identification for each patient prior to blood draw and confirming patient identification after labeling the tubes. In the ambulatory setting, the Phlebotomist presents labeled tubes to the patient to confirm proper labeling. In the in-patient setting, the Phlebotomist matches the labeled tubes with the patient's wristband.
The Phlebotomist understands the importance of all pre-analytical variables such as positive patient identification, correct tube types, specimen conditions and integrity and how they affect laboratory results, and participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. The Phlebotomist releases orders out of the Hospital Information System (HIS) and receives specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); and processes specimens to include centrifugation, aliquoting urine and pouring off plasma or serum if necessary for testing.
The Phlebotomist is considered the "face" of the clinical laboratory and is expected to represent the laboratory and themselves in a professional, respectful and courteous manner at all times. The Phlebotomist follows AIDET guidelines for customer service and patient satisfaction.
Additionally, the Phlebotomist working in the ambulatory setting must prepare specimens for transport by scanning the bar-coded sample onto a LIS packing list. The Phlebotomist must be able to troubleshoot difficult orders and assist with troubleshooting missing specimens when indicated. This position performs some data entry functions, manages requisitions and answers telephones to assist Laboratory customers. The Phlebotomist must be patient focused and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety and quality specimen collection.
- Performs specimen collection using appropriate techniques and adhering to requirements. Provides patients and/or care providers with instructions and necessary materials for specimen collection
- Provides immediate patient care if patient exhibits sign of a post-venipuncture reaction, typically vaso-vagal.
- Pro-actively assesses patient presentation and escorts patient to draw room with recliner if patient is an adolescent or young adult or states that they typically have a reaction to having their blood drawn.
- Performs data entry in applicable information systems in compliance with departmental and organizational policies
- Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection techniques and requirements.
- Ensures proper container type, centrifugation, and transport conditions for specimens. Able to determine appropriateness of specimens for add-on testing.
- Releases orders on ambulatory health system patients with orders in HIS
- Receives samples in LIS, prints bar code labels and affixes labels to specimens. Enters outside orders in LIS when copy of outside order is scanned into HIS.
- Consults Phlebotomy Coordinator, Supervisor or Lab Leadership when appropriate if situation requires assistance
- Provides assistance to nursing staff when requested.
- Performs specimen processing duties such as aliquoting urine and separating blood samples when required for testing.
- Understands pre-analytical variables that can impact test results: Container Type, Time, Temperature, Centrifugation, labeling. Able to determine appropriateness of specimens for addon testing
- Responds to telephone inquiries and provides customer service to the end caller by addressing their needs and troubleshooting.
- Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, patients and other health care providers as applicable.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies
- Other duties as assigned which may include NP, oral, or nasal swab collections with appropriate PPE.
- May be expected to provide coverage at alternate locations to help meet critical staffing level needs, as requested by management.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
