Join the Continuous Monitoring Unit (CMU) as a Telemetry Monitor Technician! Located at 79 Plain Street in Providence, RI, this day position is full-time at 36 hours per week.
The Telemetry Monitor Technician at Brown University Health is responsible for the continuous observation, analysis, and interpretation of cardiac rhythms. Collaborates with health care team to initiate, monitor, and communicate findings during telemetry monitoring patients at risk of harm due to medical conditions. This role supports high-quality, patient-centered care by promptly recognizing and identifying changes in cardiac rhythms or patient status and communicating the changes to the clinical team. Initiates code and rapid response teams for patients at risk of death or serious harm. The telemetry monitor technician ensures patient safety and operational excellence. The Telemetry Monitor Technician maintains accurate documentation, contributes to efficient workflows, and maintains inventory of equipment including storage, cleaning, troubleshooting and associated telemetry needs. The Monitor Technician demonstrates a commitment to patient centered care, safety, quality, and service excellence. The role collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams and contributes to a culture of accountability, respect and teamwork.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for understanding patient information related to current cardiac rhythm status and applicable vital signs, optimal cardiac rhythm status and vital signs, and prior variances/alarms.
Maintain awareness of assigned patients’ medical history, medications, and code status to support accurate monitoring and escalation.
Continuously monitors patient telemetry including cardiac rhythms, blood pressure, SpO2 reading, respiratory rate, Co2 level and additional vital signs depending on acuity level.
Obtains, interprets, and accurately documents rhythm strips as determined by policy, orders, or the healthcare team and with changes in patient condition.
Recognizes, documents, and communicates changes or abnormalities promptly to healthcare team including cardiac rhythms and/or applicable vital signs being monitored.
Provide timely communication of monitoring data and summaries to the healthcare team
Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of monitoring equipment to ensure reliability and performance.
Perform all responsibilities in alignment with organizational values, policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care.
Admits, transfers, and discharges patients and enters all required information in the telemetry monitoring system.
Acts as preceptor and mentor to new monitor technicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Works in a clinical environment requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Requires strong visual acuity, including color differentiation, and auditory ability for monitoring interpretation.
Demonstrates manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for equipment use.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of ECG interpretation training or equivalent on-the-job competency validation.
Demonstrated ability to recognize critical rhythms and abnormalities.
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a clinical monitoring or patient care setting.
Additional healthcare-related education or certification preferred.

- Follows established Blood Bank protocols perform tests including the most complex for an assigned area and prepares component blood products for transfusion. The Sterile Processing (SP) Technician performs decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, sterilization and storage of re-usable surgical instrumentation.
Saint Alphonsus Health System offers a full range ofsurgical services, including both inpatient and outpatient surgery serving in communities fromSouthwest Idaho to Southeast Oregon.
What You Will Do:
Clean, inspect, and package surgical instruments, specialty sets and other re-usable instruments following all surgical procedures following regulations established by OSHA, The Joint Commission, and Saint Alphonsus.
Operate sterilization equipment including cart washer, washer disinfectors, steam sterilizers, other sterilizers, heat sealers, and Sterris machines.
Prepare surgical case carts and respond to requests for instrumentation and /or supplies for surgical procedures.
Order and restock the surgery department with supplies and instruments.
An ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and is a quick learner. You will also have an opportunity to work on your CRCST or CSPDT national certification.
Work Schedule:
8/40 - 8-hour shifts, Mondays - Fridays with occasional weekends.
Day shifts: 6:45 AM
Evening shift: 3:00 PM
Nigh Shift: 9:00 PM
Evening shift, night shift, and weekends receive an additional pay differential!
Minimum Qualifications:

SUMMARY:
The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) will monitor, recognize and report cardiac arrhythmias to the RN caring for the patient. The TMT will also observe a group of patients remotely using continuous tele-visual monitoring to assure patient safety. In addition, the TMT will perform other various duties related to patient monitoring and equipment maintenance in the central station and on the patient care units.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
· Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms for a group of patients assigned to the Central Monitoring Area.
· Monitors a group of patients using continuous tele-visual monitoring to assure patient safety including patients at risk for falls, elopement, or other safety issues as identified by the nurse.
· Documents cardiac rhythms on the Cardiac Monitor Flow Sheet and patient behaviors/interventions on the Patient Monitoring Log.
· Prints cardiac rhythm strips and calculates P-R, QRS, and QT intervals once a shift and as needed or utilizes E-calipers and documents on Cardiac Monitoring Flow Sheet.
· Delivers rhythm strips and other patient care documentation to the patient care units as needed.
· Notifies RN of alarms or changes in rhythm or heart rate.
· Verbally redirects patients to promote patient safety including reminding patient to stay in bed, not pull at tubes, etc. When patient does not respond to verbal redirection, communicates with assigned unit caregivers to provide patient assistance.
· Collaborates with nursing leadership to prioritize/allocate use of monitoring resources such as telemetry and continuous visual monitoring cameras.
· Delivers telemetry and/or other monitoring equipment to floor, then nursing staff performs monitor hook up, patient preparation and teaching related to cardiac monitor.
· Disconnects, cleans and returns monitors and video cameras to the Central Monitoring Area upon completion of use.
· Troubleshoots equipment, assisting with battery replacement and leads off as needed.
· Maintains equipment and supplies.
· Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.
· Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
· Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience:
- Must be able to read and write English at a high school level.
- Ability to perform some arithmetic calculations to calculate cardiac intervals.
- Previous experience reading monitors or EKGs required.
- Must successfully complete a basic arrhythmia class and receive a passing score within first 30 days of employment.
- Must complete an arrhythmia competency test and receive a passing score during the annual CMT Blitz education.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with various health care team members.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work under stressful situations, remain calm, work at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy in work.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time, watching computer screens and also be able to walk long distances.
- Adequate visual acuity to observe cardiac monitors for long periods of time and to analyze monitor strips.

Essential Functions
Adheres to safety standards. Transports and handles soiled items and sterile items with appropriate traffic flow.
Identifies, responds & reports malfunctions and/or alarms.
Performs efficacy and quality testing for all processes and equipment.
Identifies manual and/or mechanical cleaning according to the manufacturer's IFU for all general, laparoscopic, robotic, orthopedic, neuro, cardiovascular, ophthalmologic, power, instrumentation.
Performs flexible scope processing utilizing High Level Disinfection (HLD).
Determines, prepares, and uses supplies required in the assembly process.
Identifies, inspects, assembles general and specialty instruments checking for cleanliness & functionality utilizing count sheets.
Packages and labels instrumentation following standards.
Safely determines sterilization equipment functionality, operation, monitoring, and maintenance with verification and documentation of sterilization process.
Performs high temperature (steam) and low temperature (gas plasma, ethylene oxide, liquid chemical) sterilization.
Physical Requirements
Works in-patient care areas independently under stressful conditions.
Continuous standing and walking; bending and/or stooping; reaching and/or stretching; pushing and/or pulling heavy loads.

Education, Experience and Certifications.
