Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
The position of Pulmonary Function Technician has an educational background in respiratory therapy with specialized training in pulmonary function diagnostics. Performs routine and specialized pulmonary function tests, calibrates and maintains equipment to manufacturer and department standards, and cleans and disinfects equipment and surfaces to hospital and department standards.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Perform pulmonary function tests (spirometry, lung volumes, lung diffusing capacity, arterial blood gas draws, six-minute walk test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, and other tests as specified) according to ATS and department standards.
- Perform user maintenance on equipment and perform calibrations on equipment according to manufacturer and department procedures. Trouble-shoot equipment malfunction and take appropriate action to bring equipment back to operational standards.
- Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes cardiopulmonary equipment according to hospital and department standards for infection control.
- Performs regular administrated tasks of the pulmonary function lab including patient scheduling, registration, and telephone support.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited college or university OR equivalent military training program
Preferred Education and Experience
- 2 or more years experience in respiratory therapy or completed practicum in pulmonary function testing as part of respiratory therapy curriculum OR
- 1 or more years experience in full-service pulmonary function lab
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - State Board of Healing Arts from the state of Kansas or Missouri upon Hire
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 1 Year
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 Days

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, the Sterile Processing Technician processes the instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Technician Program, Student Manager and Faculty, those accepted into Sterile Processing Technician Program as a student is an unlicensed staff member, who is accountable to/completes delegated assignments and tasks as assigned by Manager, Faculty, Leadership or Preceptor, the Sterile Processing Technician tasked to guide students during clinicals, in a caring and culturally sensitive manner with excellent customer service at all times. Students are expected to demonstrate competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills related to delegated tasks and task areas (Decontamination, Preparation and Packaging, Sterilization, and Sterile Storage). During clinical rotation, students, developing and learning skills, assist their Preceptors in the processing of instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. Tasks may include (but are not limited to): decontamination of instrumentation, assembly of trays, inventory of instruments, transport of instrumentation, assembly of peel-packed instrumentation, and other duties as tasked. - Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
- Decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards.

REI - Embryology Lab DirectorThe University of Kansas Health System, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is seeking a full-time Embryology Lab Director who will join the team and support the departmental mission of delivering the highest quality of care, as well as satisfying teaching, research, and academic responsibilities at the region's quaternary referral center.
The Embryology/ART Laboratory Director will provide leadership and oversight of the operational, technical and scientific functions of the embryology, andrology and phlebotomy laboratories. The Director will assume responsibility for and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and institutional standards. As a member of the clinical faculty, the director participates in education and supports the ongoing research and academic mission of the University of Kansas Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Director is expected to work in a highly collaborative manner with all clinical, educational and research partners.

Job Duties:
- Provide overall operational, administrative, technical, and scientific leadership for the ART laboratory and advise Division leadership regarding qualified laboratory personnel.
- Establish, implement, and oversee laboratory policies, protocols, standards, and procedures in collaboration with the Medical Director and applicable leadership.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations and perform laboratory procedures and testing as needed to support patient care and operational needs.
- Ensure laboratory testing and treatment methods are scientifically valid, clinically relevant, and appropriate to patient and program needs.
- Develop and oversee the laboratory’s quality management and quality assurance programs, including quality control, proficiency testing, quality improvement, corrective actions, and annual program review.
- Monitor laboratory performance and ensure accurate, timely, and medically reliable results, documentation, and communication of laboratory data.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements, including timely reporting of federally mandated ART data to SART and CDC.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate laboratory personnel; ensure staff maintain required competency, licensure, certification, and continuing education. Oversee the training and professional development of embryologists.
- Provide consultation to physicians and other clinical staff regarding laboratory aspects of patient treatment and management.
- Oversee selection and evaluation of laboratory equipment, methods, reagents, reference laboratories, and other resources to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure laboratory facilities, equipment, environmental conditions, and information and record-management systems meet applicable safety, confidentiality, regulatory, and institutional requirements.
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory and accreditation inspections and self-assessments; review findings and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Support education and research activities related to reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) and participate in educational programs for medical and laboratory staff.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution OR
- Hold an earned doctoral degree; and
- Have at least 16 semester hours of doctoral level coursework in biology, chemistry, medical technology (MT), clinical laboratory science (CLS), or medical laboratory science (MLS); or

- Assists in the development, implementation and employee/supervisory training on new and updated HR and other hospital policies. Conducts employee relations training in new hire orientation and follow-up for supervisors and managers, physicians, etc.
- Assists with the coordination of employee events/activities. Administers the service award and retirement programs. Serves on hospital and other committees as requested.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the labor agreements and effectively coaches both supervisors and employees as to labor agreement language and application. Works with management, union stewards and business agents to investigate and resolve employee grievances and coordinates the hospital’s timely response to concerns/issues/grievances.
- Effectively administers unemployment claims and represents the hospital in related hearings.
- Effectively partners with other HR teams to manage overlapping employee and other issues.
- Partners with internal and external resources to manage employee needs through effective day to day administration of ADA Accommodations, the Reasonable Suspicion Process, The Employee Assistance Program, The Kansas Nurse Assistance Program, etc.
- Partners with legal counsel and risk management to manage EEOC claims and lawsuits. Says abreast of current local, state and federal legislative changes and changes in employment laws, so as to administer effectively. Maintains HR Certification.
- Supports management through effective recommendations and administration of the corrective action process and provides guidance to management concerning employee performance improvement measures. Provides ongoing education, coaching and training. Partners with managers and directors to facilitate departmental restructures.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in related field of study from an accredited college or university. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- 4 or more years of previous experience as a fully functioning HR Generalist or in Employee Relations, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Heavy focus on workplace investigations and recommendation/administration of corrective action, performance improvement plans, preferably in a health care/hospital Human Resources department.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Human Resources or similar discipline.
- Prefer Labor Relations experience including handling grievances and working with union stewards and facilitating labor agreements.
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) - Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) - Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI)
