Under the general supervision of the area Section Heads and Laboratory Supervisor and according to established policies and procedures performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients. May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology. No supervision is required for specimen processing or reporting of patient test results.Major Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Hematology II Section. Performs coagulation testing, urinalysis, rapid strep, Sofia flu, Strep. Pneumoniae, Legionella Ag, wet prep., HCG qualitative and OCC blood testing and all other HEM II tasks.
- Ensures that test results correlate properly and takes appropriate follow-up action for all questionable results.
- Ensures the proper working order of all equipment and that there are adequate supplies and reagents for use. Restocks work bench.
- Processes specimens as outlined in Specimen Collection manual.
- Operates and maintains instrumentation. Fills out all maintenance, daily temperature and other appropriate logs.
- Performs appropriate start-up procedures at the beginning of each shift.
- Promptly and accurately performs assigned procedures and conducts routine quality control, calibrations and instrument checks. Takes appropriate follow-up action, as needed.
- Demonstrates autonomy, initiative, professionalism and an ability and willingness to problem-solve.
- May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Chemistry I Section. Operates the AU680, AU480, and Access2 instruments and all other CHEM I duties.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Chemistry II Section. Operates the Triage meter, creates manifests and site batches for send-out testing and all other CHEM II tasks.
- No supervision is required for specimen processing or reporting of patient test results.

- Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
Preferred:
- ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Three years of related experience.
Preferred:
- LIS experience a plus.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
- Must Qualify as a General Supervisor under the CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1461 with either a bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution, PLUS 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing.
- Also acceptable is an associate degree in a laboratory science or MLT from an accredited institution, with at least 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high complexity testing. Performs low, moderate and/or high complexity testing as required.
- Performs all testing and work assignments with a positive sense of urgency meeting all established turnaround times and deadlines.
- Follows established Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank protocols perform tests including the most complex for an assigned area and prepares component blood products for transfusion.
- Provides guidance and consultation to lower-level technologists, technicians and others in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results and in the performance of standard operating Blood Bank procedures.
- Processes blood donor specimens for outside shipment and testing. Sends specimens and blood products between campuses and various sites using appropriate packaging and transport methods.
- Performs assigned duties to ensure an adequate inventory of supplies for the assigned area. Monitors inventory levels and stores equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. Utilizes first-in/first-out (FIFO) inventory management practices.
- Rotates to Marlboro Campus Lab- Medical Center Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support
- The float requirements only apply to UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley's newly hired staff

Under the general supervision of the area Section Heads and Laboratory Supervisor and according to established policies and procedures performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients. May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology. No supervision is required for specimen processing or reporting of patient test results.Major Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Hematology II Section. Performs coagulation testing, urinalysis, rapid strep, Sofia flu, Strep. Pneumoniae, Legionella Ag, wet prep., HCG qualitative and OCC blood testing and all other HEM II tasks.
- Ensures that test results correlate properly and takes appropriate follow-up action for all questionable results.
- Ensures the proper working order of all equipment and that there are adequate supplies and reagents for use. Restocks work bench.
- Processes specimens as outlined in Specimen Collection manual.
- Operates and maintains instrumentation. Fills out all maintenance, daily temperature and other appropriate logs.
- Performs appropriate start-up procedures at the beginning of each shift.
- Promptly and accurately performs assigned procedures and conducts routine quality control, calibrations and instrument checks. Takes appropriate follow-up action, as needed.
- Demonstrates autonomy, initiative, professionalism and an ability and willingness to problem-solve.

Also acceptable is an associate degree in a laboratory science or MLT from an accredited institution, with at least 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high complexity testing.
- Performs low, moderate and/or high complexity testing as required.
- Performs all testing and work assignments with a positive sense of urgency meeting all established turnaround times and deadlines.
- Follows established Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank protocols perform tests including the most complex for an assigned area and prepares component blood products for transfusion. Provides guidance and consultation to lower-level technologists, technicians and others in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results and in the performance of standard operating Blood Bank procedures.
- Processes blood donor specimens for outside shipment and testing. Sends specimens and blood products between campuses and various sites using appropriate packaging and transport methods.
- Performs assigned duties to ensure an adequate inventory of supplies for the assigned area. Monitors inventory levels and stores equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. Utilizes first-in/first-out (FIFO) inventory management practices.

- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.

- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs moderately complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
- May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.

Major Responsibilities: Inventory Management 7)Remove all empty supply / inventory bins left in place by clinical staff on the wire racks of any 2-Bin inventory system within a respective inventory location, pulling the rear supply / inventory bin forward on the rack. 9)Be responsible for managing all expedite requests for any supply / inventory items. Review any request for expedite with the Supply Chain Manager prior to placing a requisition for any such orders. An expedited order is defined as any supply / inventory being requested for order for delivery in any manner other than standard delivery. 10)Review the analytics associated with non-conforming supply items on a weekly basis, reviewing supply items by inventory location and by SKU for the purpose of determining the root cause and corrective action necessary to mitigate the re-occurence of a non-conforming supply item. Review all proposed corrective actions with the Manager Supply Chain prior to implementation. 6)Put away all supplies / inventory in the appropriate and designated inventory location on a daily, or as required, basis, placing all inventory / supplies in their proper storage location in a first expired, first out (FEFO) order. Rotate all inventory supply items accordingly. Conduct a 100% inspection of all inventory / supply items in each inventory location and in each respective bin or holding location on a regular basis. Remove any non-conforming supply / inventory items detected and place them in the respective non-conforming green supply bin. At least once per week, or sooner if required, gather all non-conforming supply items and transport them to the General Stores. Register and log each non-conforming supply item in the Advocate Non-Conforming Supply portal, including all pertinent information, unless the Supervisor reassigns this responsibility to a different associate. 8)Be responsible for visually inspecting each inventory location assigned for the purpose of performing housekeeping duties, including, but not limited to, straightening all supply / inventory bins, removing all non-standard supply / inventory items or other incorrect products left in each respective inventory location, remove all debris, trash, cardboard or other clutter and ensure all 2-Bin racks are aligned, neat and orderly. 1)Manage all specialty supply inventory within specialty departments (including but not limited to surgical areas, Cath lab, I/R/ E.P) via the 2-Bin inventory management process, including all stock, non-stock, suture, endo-mechanical and anesthesia supply items; Support all clinical requirements for inventory in relation to the provision of patient and clinical care within the Surgical OR, and other non-Surgical OR inventory locations as assigned. 2)Review, manage and adjust, as necessary, all 2-Bin inventory locations at a frequency as established within DemandTrack, or as otherwise required. 3)Remove all empty bins from designated inventory locations and scan the empty bins via the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain provided scanner; Be responsible on a daily basis for maintaining, charging and securing the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Scanner so as to protect against theft, loss or damage. 4)Pick and pack all replenishment supplies / inventory from the General Stores on a regular basis, in accordance with work schedule assignment, as required according to the 2-Bin process. 5)Transport all supplies / inventory from the point of pick / pack to the respective inventory location at the associated point-of-care location. POSITION PURPOSE
Provides Planned Maintenance (PM), safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, routine and emergency service to general diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment, as assigned by the Clinical Engineering (CE) Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision and core values of Trinity Health and the Ministry Organization in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.
Performs PM procedures on multiple types of general and specialized clinical equipment.
Performs PM procedures using manufacturers' recommendations, standards or code requirements, as well as industry acceptable processes as guidelines.
Performs Corrective Maintenance (CM) procedures including diagnosing problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or other related sciences and documents results of activities performed to comply with all regulatory and standards requirements.
Notifies equipment users and Clinical Engineering Management of repair status and delays as necessary.
Interacts with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems in scheduling and completing PM procedures while minimizing interference to hospital departments.
Determines need for replacement parts and supplies, selects the most cost effective source, and submits properly completed parts request using established policies and guidelines.
Completes corrective and planned maintenance work order documentation.
Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, works to accomplish team objectives and projects, and solicits feedback about one's effectiveness as a team member.
Continually improves processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste.
Has authority (based on department guidelines) to order parts and supplies required for emergency service or repair of medical equipment. Recommends test equipment and spare equipment parts to the CE Manager or Lead Technician.
Provides on-call service coverage after normal business hours on a rotating basis, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested by CE Manager.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of an Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in related field of medical electronics, electronic technology or equivalent military related training required.
One to two-years experience or equivalent, performing corrective and planned maintenance on medical equipment per policy.
Must have a basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Working knowledge and ability to use basic hand tools and test equipment specific to the field. Ability to train CE associates on use and application of select test equipment.
Must have knowledge and understanding of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, EOC, FDA and other specific regulations and standards pertaining to clinical equipment service and repair.
Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Trinity Health, Ministry Organizations, and Clinical Engineering.
Must have basic understanding of personal computer operation, applications, and ability to input data using keyboard. Technician must be able to follow complex written instructions, perform tasks and document actions taken.
Ability to operate complex test equipment, analyze and interpret information provided by equipment and clinical staff to determine equipment operational condition.
Strong customer service and communications skills are required to interact with hospital personnel and vendors to achieve positive outcomes.
Ability to provide or coordinate in-service training to clinical/professional staff on medical device basic operational and safety functions.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be physically able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, twist, and walk.
Possess ability to mentally concentrate while being subject to stress, interruptions and changing work priorities.
Must be able to work and follow OSHA guidelines while in a hazardous environment(s) such as electrocution potentials, mechanical energies, bloodborne/airborne pathogens, dust and inclement weather, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, radiation, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices.
Must be able to hear speech, distinguish sounds, and speak.
Must have near vision, far vision, depth perception, and be able to distinguish colors.
Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors.
Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely (50% of the time) and on occasion (5% of the time) up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to push or pull over 100 pounds frequently (20% of the time).
Maintains safe working environment for self, other associates, patients, visitors, and medical staff in accordance with applicable standards and procedures relevant to job duties.
Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities.
Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health, Ministry Organizations, subsidiaries, and/or training facilities.
Compensation:
Pay Range: $24.53 - 36.79 per hour
Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.

Works with considerable independence to perform and interpret various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Is fully proficient in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:
- Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
- Must Qualify as a General Supervisor under the CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1461 with either a bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution, PLUS 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing. Also acceptable is an associate degree in a laboratory science or MLT from an accredited institution, with at least 2 years of laboratory training/experience in high complexity testing.
- Performs low, moderate and/or high complexity testing as required.
- Performs all testing and work assignments with a positive sense of urgency meeting all established turnaround times and deadlines.
- Follows established Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank protocols perform tests including the most complex for an assigned area and prepares component blood products for transfusion. Provides guidance and consultation to lower-level technologists, technicians and others in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results and in the performance of standard operating Blood Bank procedures.
- Processes blood donor specimens for outside shipment and testing. Sends specimens and blood products between campuses and various sites using appropriate packaging and transport methods.
- Performs assigned duties to ensure an adequate inventory of supplies for the assigned area. Monitors inventory levels and stores equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. Utilizes first-in/first-out (FIFO) inventory management practices.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and metrics system
