For more than 50 years, Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod has been a privately owned, independent practice. We aren't part of a corporate group, and that shows in how we work. Decisions are made here, by people who know our patients, our clients, and each other by name. As an AAHA-accredited hospital, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of care, and we believe that starts with a team that feels supported.
*Practice at the top of your license*
At VACC, our technicians are trusted, skilled partners in medicine, not just extra hands. You'll be relied on for your judgment and expertise across a wide range of advanced care:
* Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for general and soft tissue surgery
* Assisting with minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedures; we were the first hospital on Cape Cod to offer them
* Fear Free dentistry, including dental cleanings and dental radiographs
* Diagnostic imaging support, including ultrasound, echocardiograms, and GlobalFAST scans
* Internal medicine cases, including endoscopy
* Running our in-house laboratory, from wellness screenings to urgent diagnostics
* Same-day urgent care triage, client education, and patient advocacy
*Room to grow, with no strings attached*
We've mentored high school interns all the way to becoming veterinarians, and we've supported team members through CVT certification. Whether you want to deepen your skills in anesthesia, dentistry, or imaging, pursue a VTS, or step into a leadership role, we'll help you get there. We offer support for continuing education and certifications because investing in your growth is investing in our patients.
*A culture you can feel*
Our team is made up of passionate animal lovers who treat one another with the same compassion and respect we give our patients. As our director Dr. Tom Burns puts it: _"We treat people how we'd want to be treated."_ We value collaboration over competition, and we genuinely have fun together. Think staff appreciation weeks, goat yoga, dunk tanks, and yes, margaritas.
*What we offer*
* 4-day work week for full-time staff
* Support for continuing education and certifications
* Generous pet benefits
* Health insurance / dental / 401(k) / PTO / uniform allowance
* A modern hospital, advanced equipment, and a team that has your back
*What you bring*
* Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician credential
* Solid anesthesia and nursing skills, with enthusiasm to keep learning
* A collaborative, client-focused approach to relationship-driven care
* A desire to be part of something local, authentic, and meaningful
*Ready to join us?*

The Gu Lab is an interdisciplinary laboratory studying how cells control protein homeostasis. We combine discovery-driven approaches including genetic screening and proteomics with mechanistic biochemistry and structural biology as well as in vivo animal models to uncover and characterize previously unknown cellular pathways. Our goal is to understand these mechanisms from the molecular level to their physiological functions and relevance to human disease.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
We are particularly interested in recruiting postdoctoral fellows with expertise that expands the experimental capabilities of our group in one of two broad areas:
Mouse in vivo biology, including researchers trained in neuroscience, immunology, developmental biology, cancer biology, or related disciplines; or
Biochemistry and structural biology, particularly researchers with expertise in protein biochemistry, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), or cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET).
Candidates do not need prior experience studying protein degradation. We are especially interested in scientists who bring complementary expertise and want to apply their training to new mechanistic questions. The successful candidate will have substantial intellectual freedom to develop research directions within the broader interests of the laboratory and will benefit from the highly collaborative research environments of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, and the broader Boston biomedical community.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead an independent research project addressing fundamental questions in cell biology and physiology. Depending on the candidate's expertise and interests, projects may include:
Developing mouse models to determine the physiological functions of newly discovered cellular pathways in vivo.
Applying mouse genetics, tissue analysis, primary cell approaches, viral delivery, imaging, or other in vivo techniques to mechanistic questions emerging from the laboratory.
Investigating the functions of cellular pathways in the nervous system, immune system, development, cancer, or other physiological contexts.
Reconstituting cellular processes using purified proteins and other biochemical systems, followed by determining molecular mechanisms and structures using cryo-EM, cryo-ET, and complementary biochemical approaches.
Integrating in vivo, genetic, cell biological, biochemical, and structural approaches to connect molecular mechanisms with physiological function.
The fellow will design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, communicate findings through presentations and publications, and contribute to the laboratory's collaborative scientific environment.

The Knowledge Systems Group (KSG) builds systems for precision oncology at Dana-Farber, including MatchMiner for clinical trial matching and the cBioPortal for exploration of cancer clinico-genomic data.
These systems draw on standard analytical outputs as well as supplemental genomic, transcriptomic and clinical biomarkers generated by KSG. This role focuses on generating those supplemental biomarkers, contributing the genomics, transcriptomics and bioinformatics expertise to support it.
In this role, you will work with DFCI faculty to understand their requests and translate those into clear specifications that the engineering team can build. The Scientist II works directly with oncologists, pathologists, and researchers to prioritize biomarker selection, establish requirements, select computational methods, develop quality control metrics, prototype data visualization and delivery mechanisms, and transform these scientific decisions into technical specifications which engineers can readily implement. Much of the current work centers on genomic and transcriptomic profiling data: targeted cancer gene panel, whole exome DNA (WES), and RNA sequencing. Those data get turned into clinical biomarkers for trial matching and captured in cBioPortal for research exploration.
This is a multi-omics literate role that faces outward. The Scientist II has to be fluent enough in cancer genomics and transcriptomics to earn a researcher's trust, and comfortable enough with software to keep several concurrent builds organized and on track.
- Biomarker definition and prioritization. Identify the clinical biomarkers DFCI faculty need, and decide how each is computed, interpreted, and displayed.
- Genomics analysis and quality. Work hands-on with WES and RNAseq data, write bioinformatics pipelines, validate biomarker outputs, and keep current with the relevant cancer genomics methods and literature.
- Clinical biomarker reporting. Work with KSG's genomics team to surface clinical biomarkers derived from NGS molecular profiling for use in clinical trial matching.
- Genomics data in cBioPortal. Work with KSG’s cBioPortal team to capture the relevant clinical biomarkers and genomic data, especially RNAseq-derived results.
- Scientific direction for the engineering team. Provide engineers well-defined software and bioinformatics workflow specifications, review the approach for scientific correctness, keep the scope honest, and mentor junior team members.
- Faculty and researcher partnership. Meet with oncologists, pathologists, and researchers; capture requirements; keep requests organized; and be able to assert when the data will not support a request.
- Data quality and reproducibility. Keep biomarker definitions documented, versioned, and reproducible so results can be trusted and rebuilt.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Cancer-omics depth (required). Hands on familiarity with cancer genomics and transcriptomics data (targeted gene panels, WES, and RNA sequencing) and a thorough understanding of the biology and analysis associated with those assays.
- Researcher facing judgment (required). Comfortable taking requirements directly from researchers and clinicians, and capable of discerning and asserting what the data supports.
- Software fluency and direction setting (required). Enough exposure to software projects to set scientific direction with engineers, review approach and scope, and keep a build on track.
- Scientific and product judgment. Able to define a biomarker or data element, decide how it should be reported and visualized, and prioritize across competing clinical and research requests.
- Highly organized. Keeps multiple requests, definitions, and deliverables moving without dropping threads.
- Technical leadership and mentoring. Comfortable guiding a small group of engineers on the science: setting direction, reviewing work, and providing the team opportunities to learn and grow in their understanding.
- Communication. Explain genomic and transcriptomic methods and their limitations to both technical and clinical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Able to work effectively as part of a team, and with individuals spanning clinical, research and technical roles.
Minimum job qualifications
- Education: PhD in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field required.
- Cancer genomics experience (required): Demonstrated hands-on experience with cancer-omics data and direct work with genomics/transcriptomic researchers or clinicians.
- Software project experience (required): Some experience with software projects and coordinating with engineers, enough to set scientific direction and keep a build on scope.
- 6 to 9 years of relevant experience post undergraduate (1 to 2 years post advanced degree), with progressively increasing scope and complexity.
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.
