Full time 3rd shift 1100PM - 0730AM w/weekends and Holidays rotaqtion
Pay Range:
$20.80 - $31.20- Processes and maintains proper care of all surgical instruments and equipment, scopes and powered surgical instruments which includes inspection, evaluation of proper function, cleaning disinfecting and sterilization. Maintains quality control and documentation records of the sterilization process. Distributes designated supplies and equipment to all areas of the medical center.
- Receives soiled and contaminated items in decontamination area. Sorts equipment, rinses as needed, places equipment through sonic tanks and washers, reassembles trays, performs safety checks, hangs and sorts instruments, wraps sets according to set policy, and wraps towels and basins appropriately.
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment using the aerator, gas sterilizer or steam sterilizer and operates glass dryer. Packages items in steri/peel as required. Performs quality assurance testing for all methods of sterilization to ensure sterility of supplies. Hand cleans miscellaneous instruments (Baxter pump, hypothermo units, etc.) and operates the cart cleaner.
- Ensures proper care and handling of high cost instrumentation and equipment to include items requiring special handling, laser instrumentation, orthopedic implants, cardiac assist devices, endoscopic and microscopic instrumentation.
- May build case carts according to procedure and physician preference as specified. File case cart sheets and requisitions, responds to Code 4s with defibrillator and back up supplies, maintains CPR annies, tests autoclaves with the tests according to procedure, and changes graphs as necessary.
- Checks incoming trays and follows up with departments as to missing instruments or parts.
- Takes immediate and appropriate action if a question of sterilizer failure occurs.
- Receives and records orders for supplies as requested by departments. Records accurate product number and assures all forms are correctly completed for proper billing. Marks, dates and stocks equipment, which may include returning to appropriate department on a timely basis.
- Opens and unpacks supply boxes, checking for damaged goods and number of items received. Reports any discrepancies to the supervisor. Performs credits for unused products returned, checks stock levels, copies supply sheets, checks carts for outdated supplies, and performs general cleaning of shelves.
- May performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

$20.80 - $31.20- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Six months of related experience preferred.
- LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current BLS certification required. Complete high-level disinfection (HLD) training with first three months of employment with annual renewal.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Operates all department equipment in designated decontamination areas and promptly reports issues to the Assistant Nurse Manager of Endoscopy. 2. Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of scopes and other instruments. 3. Inspects scopes and instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality. 4. Assembles scopes and instruments into proper carrying containers according to procedure room needs. 5. Packages special instruments according to manufacturer's instructions. 6. Performs required decontamination and verifies adequacy of the process. 7. Maintains documentation of decontamination processes utilizing Endora system. 8. Stores scopes and other instruments in identified location. 9. Collects instruments for special sterilization, delivers to the specific areas for sterilization, and picks up instruments post sterilization process for storage or immediate use in the Endoscopy unit. 10. Participates in the department's monthly meetings and educational training opportunities. 11. Assists other team members as needed, such as delivery of specimen to the pathology laboratory area and other errands assisting workflow and patient throughput. 12. Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases. 13. Exhibits competency in assisting general endoscopic procedures within the Endoscopy unit, at the patient?s bedside in critical care, and in OR such as EGD, colonoscopy, specimen collection, snares, biopsy forceps, and dilations.
- SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Proficient communication skills Ability to operate equipment such as Endora tracking system, Medivators, Dri-scope, Veriscan, Scope Buddy, and other devices related to scope decontamination and disinfecting of other instruments Knowledge of instrument IFU?s, care/disposal of solutions in use in the decontamination room, and scope/scope cabinet cleaning schedules Ability to show competency in scope handling during general GI procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, use of snares and biopsy forceps, dilation procedures, and assistance in doing travel GI cases in critical care and OR

Performs laboratory testing of biological specimens in an acute setting in any/all specialty areas using manual or automated techniques. Uses independent judgment and cognitive skills to report timely and accurate laboratory results.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated. Monitors workflow and makes necessary adjustments to complete work in an appropriate timeframe.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Performs and documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Performs and documents quality control; evaluates quality control results and takes corrective action when indicated.
- Recognizes indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and makes basic corrections by using prescribed strategies, or notifies the Medical Technologist, site coordinator or supervisor. Performs internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
- Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Ascertains specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
- Provides technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
- Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes. Ensures compliance with all accrediting agency standards, supporting CAP Regulatory requirements in an acute setting,
- Performs all internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
- Performs specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry. Supports the disease specific accreditations of an institution by meeting turn- around time goals.
- Provides direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments such as the ED, ICU and OR during a high acuity patient event. This includes transfusion services, attending codes, performing testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding and gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) needs to be obtained within 1 year, or
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) needs to be obtained within 1 year.
Education Required:
- Associate's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician or related field.
Experience Preferred:
- 1 to 2 years experience

7. Sets up disposable supplies and assists with all therapeutic pain management applications (Blocks, Bier Blocks, Stellate Ganglion Blocks, Epidural Blocks, Intercostal Blocks, Trigger Point Blocks, etc.).
8. Sets up suction devices. Switches out anesthesia machine tanks and recording paper when needed. Confirms anesthesia equipment is available for CRNA/resident/MD including confirming power/gas sources & electrical cords are in proper working order; notifying Biomed & hands-on provider of concerns related to equipment & patient safety (i.e. loose sockets); and ensuring anesthesia equipment is properly cleaned prior to patient care & appropriately connected to emergency power outlets.
9. Provides Anesthesia support during all emergency situations (difficult intubation, latex allergy patient episodes, cardiac crisis, malignant hyperthermia, etc.) and routine case turnover including anesthesia post case cleaning. At end of day terminally cleans and dusts anesthesia equipment and prepares for next day use.
10. Anticipates anesthesia requirements for scheduled and emergent procedures and has equipment set up without requests from the MD/CRNA. Assumes responsibility for answering anesthesia pages during workday.
11. Sets up IVs, fluid warmers, and pressure transducers. Acquires computer pumps.
12. Monitors the inventory of consumable supplies. Ensures that the anesthesia carts are stocked and the anesthesia area is clean and uncluttered. May transport mobile cart’s medication tray to and from Pharmacy. Reprocesses reusable supplies.
13. Drains and reconnects hoses. Checks and changes soda sorb and tubing’s. Ensures the rotation of stock and the proper storage of electrical equipment.
14. Informs appropriate persons of equipment issues and potential problems. Recognizes need for repair and initiates repair actions. Maintains an equipment repair log and equipment loaner book.
15. Stocks IV bins and utilizes anesthesia exchange carts to stock anesthesia blue bells.

As a Monitor Technician, you will be part of a team in charge of all patient's requiring cardiac monitoring within the facility. You will be required to watch between 40 and 60 patients cardiac rhythms for abnormalities and alarms. You are also responsible for escalating changes and recognizing dangerous rhythms and notifying the healthcare team.
Schedule: Full-time (3-12 hour) Night shift, 7:00pm to 7:30am.
This will include weekends and holidays on rotation.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for continuous observation of patients’ monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors, and for reporting pertinent changes and abnormalities to the appropriate clinical staff. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients. Must be aware of pertinent medical history, medications and code status for each of their assigned patients. Alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.
2. Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards. Documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.

5. May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Current BLS certification may be required in certain departments.
Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.
Depending on department assignment, completion of unit approved basic electrocardiogram -OR- electroencephalographic interpretation course or on the job training – and - a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG -OR- EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias - OR - epileptiform activity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the primary representative/liaison of Sterile Processing department through a collaborative working relationship with Operating Room (OR) staff to identify process improvement needs for SPD to share with management. Assumes charge responsibility in the absence of the SPD Coordinator.
- Demonstrates teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance. Collaborates to foster healthy work relationships in the work environment. Seeks guidance from interprofessional health care team, when needed, and applies feedback to improve workflow outcomes.
- Works collaboratively with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts, where applicable, based on previously identified needs, demonstrating consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing. Drives recommendations for improvement of department scores for employee engagement.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the content expert by performing decontamination and assembling of complex surgical trays, individual and potentially customized instrumentation and equipment utilizing established count sheets. Consistently wraps or contains items appropriately according to size and type of instrument or equipment.
- Performs, documents, and maintains all immediate use steam sterilization cycles ran within the OR suite.
- Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function, i.e., Steam, ETO and Low Temperature Hydrogen Peroxide.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Implements effective workflow with staff from the interprofessional health care team concerning patient safety to improve outcomes and the safe transition of care through effective assignment and shift handoffs and uses a structured format for regular communication with staff members and physicians, as appropriate.
- Ensures the effectiveness of the sterilization process by using internal, external and biological monitoring systems appropriately utilizing established department protocols and sterilizer manufacturers’ instructions for use.
- Utilizes appropriate cleaning detergents and agents by reading directions and MSDS sheets. Utilizes all department equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions for use and departmental policies and protocols.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes department resources, i.e., tracking system, to ensure completeness of trays, instruments, and equipment according to count sheets. Provides a daily location point of sterilized items ready for OR use.
- Serves as primary contact for identified items needing repaired by OR staff. Communicates with instrument repair technician and/or coordinator responsible for repairs to ensure needed service in complete or in process.
- Collaborates with OR preference card team or account sheets to identify changes needed to preference cards, preventing unnecessary items from being processed.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Presents areas of innovation, efficiency and improvement in patient care or unit operations using manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFUs) to the Sterile Processing team, in collaboration with SPD educator, as applicable.
- Serves as the key resource for understanding and implementing the surgical equipment requirements of the applicable service line.
- Represents the OR by supplying SPD-related information to Shared Governance Committee and department management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.
