This position supervises the operation of laboratory services in assigned areas by supervising personnel and overseeing day-to-day workflow.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Histotechnology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field

Associate’s Degree in Medical(Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field
2. Current licensure as required by the state in which services will be provided:
WV: Licensed in one of the following:
High Complexity Testing Personnel (HCTP) License
Cytotechnologist
Histotechnologist
PA: No State License requirement
OH: No State License requirement
MD: No State License requirement
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years’experienceas a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assist the Managers in the supervision of all lab areas to assure appropriate personnel coverage. Assist with ensuring adequate staffing and appropriate staff in support of the hospital’s mission of patient care.
2. Participates in the orientation of new staff. Provides input for staff’s annual performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and terminations, based on documented performance within time frames established by the institution.
3. Coordinates and ensures all Reference Laboratory specimens are sent to appropriate reference laboratory and results are received within specified time frame.
4. In conjunction with LIS personnel and technical staff coordinates all computer downtime activities in accordance with standard operating procedures.
5. Operates and supervises the operation of laboratory equipment consistent with standard operating procedure and promptly prepares patient specimens in accordance with standard operating policies.
6. Solicits and provides input for the development and/or revision of standard operating procedures and department policies.
7. Maintains working knowledge of current hospital and lab administrative and safety policies/ procedures as well as the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) if applicable, and applies these policies consistently and seeks management guidance when needed.
8. Responds, researches, and answers to customer inquiries and performs as variety of duties related to customer service in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. Monitors customer service activities and day-to-day Specimen Processing and/or Phlebotomy activities to identify potential problems and provide possible solutions.
9. Requests input and direction, as needed, from the Medical Director(s), Administrative Director, and/or Manager(s) regarding medical and technical issues, employee training, quality assurance and quality control procedures.
10. Organizes time, materials and resources in an economical manner, prioritizing laboratory requests by assessing and adjusting workload and staffing to provide for optimal patient care and efficiency.
11. Participates in various activities (i.e., staff meetings, in-services, etc.) to disseminate information to laboratory staff, allied health personnel, Medical Director(s), physicians and nurses by written and/or verbal means.
12. Maintains laboratory communication and ensures that information concerning new policies and procedures is available to staff in a timely manner and is incorporated into routine policies and procedures.
13. Reviews and evaluates, as needed, quality control records and test results to determine analytical errors, shifts and trends and correlates data to assure quality patient test results.
14. Assists in organizing time, materials and resources in an economical manner, and prioritizing laboratory requests by assessing and arranging workload throughout all laboratory sections within the division to provide for optimal patient care and efficiency.
15. Assures daily completeness of all workload within established turnaround times by flexing organization of work according to test ordering status (e.g., routine, STAT, ASAP, emergency), and by reviewing pending test results (e.g., daily monitoring, turnaround studies).
16. Initiates effective communication with supervisory personnel and all other laboratory personnel, other hospital departments and patient/public, as necessary to assure dissemination of information and the identification/resolution of problems in support of the hospital’s mission of patient care.
17. May participate in the technical and theoretical instruction, supervision and evaluation of residents and students of the School of Medicine, as established by laboratory policies (e.g., laboratory objectives, evaluation forms).

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Knowledge of ECG rhythms, as well as knowledge of the monitoring system and the ability to review trends and alarms.
Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged and/or extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
Principal Accountabilities
Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic central monitoring station, documenting per established procedure; interprets ECG rhythms, recognizes significant ECG events.
Escalates significant or life-threatening changes immediately, utilizing appropriate ECG algorithm, to a Registered Nurse, as appropriate; communicates information in a clear, concise and accurate manner to the responsible individual within established timeframe.
Obtains rhythm strips per hospital cardiac telemetry procedure; operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system; accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
Provides and ensures the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
Successfully completes MHHS dysrhythmia examination.
Performs other duties as assigned, within scope of responsibility and clinical competency.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Staff Nurse provides direct patient care to the endoscopy patient. Assists the endoscopy team with/by positioning patients, assisting endoscopy team with procedures, preparing and cleaning instruments and restocking of room and cart supplies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Staff Nurse with all aspects of the nursing process including, but not limited to, assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data, following the nursing management plan, and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions.
Prepares Endoscopy room in a timely manner with all anticipated supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Assists with endoscopy procedures; anticipates physician needs, passes instruments, removes polyps, obtains specimens and all endoscopic biopsies, assists with and operates cautery and other equipment used to control bleeding, assists with all methods of dilating procedures, assists with and operates advanced endoscopic procedure tools.
Maintains strict aseptic technique and a safe environment for patients and staff.
Checks all equipment and instruments for proper functioning prior to each procedure.
Demonstrates competence in care of specimens; follows procedure for care and handling of specimens.
Sets up cleaning room to perform activities.
According to established instructions and aseptic techniques, performs high-level disinfection to clean and disinfect endoscopes and accessories.
Performs basic maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting minor problems as appropriate, referring more complex repairs to the appropriate internal/external sources.
Tests disinfecting solutions daily to ensure effectiveness; adds or changes solutions as necessary.
Prepare and maintain equipment information for regulatory readiness,
Assists in obtaining vital signs, point-of-care testing, ambulation, positioning of patients, and pre/post procedure care according to department procedure.
Cleans and prepares room between cases and after the last case; restocks as needed.
Cleans and prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization. Maintains cleanliness of work area, including ensuring refrigerator is maintained clean and free from spills.
Assists in the transport of patients to and from Endoscopy.
Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department policy and procedure.
Assists in the overall function of the Endoscopy unit under the direction of the Staff Nurse.
Ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Prepares and maintains records and reports related to activities including equipment use for tracking, equipment sent for repair and sterilization; solution testing/changing, etc.
Participates in hospital/department quality improvement activities.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current certification in Basic Life Support required.
Current RI registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant or experience as an Endoscopy, Surgical or other relevant technical role preferred.
Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) Program also preferred. GI Technical Specialist certification expected to be completed within one year of date of hire.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months ' related experience in an outpatient procedural setting preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job Description:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Technician I (ET I) supports basic, diagnostic and/or therapeutic endoscopic procedures at rural, community, large and trauma facilities. This entry-level role ensures safe and effective care during procedures such as Colonoscopy, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Tracheostomy/Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Placement, Enteroscopy, basic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT), Food Impaction Removal, Bravo Capsule Placement, and EndoFLIP. Interventions may include polypectomy, biopsy, dilation, cauterization, variceal banding, stent placement, overtube use, foreign body removal, and Hemospray application for GI bleeding.
The ET I may be required to take independent call and assist with urgent or emergent cases.
This role contributes to system-wide Surgical Services initiatives and actively participates in the Endoscopy Team Safety Plan.

Essential Functions
- Performs all aspects of patient care for entry-level, diagnostic, and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, adhering strictly to safety protocols and organizational policies.
- Assembles, prepares, and sets up equipment and supplies according to procedure type and provider-specific requirements; accurately navigates ProVation for image capture and documentation.
- Assists with procedure room turnover and ensures emergent equipment is either sent to sterile processing or appropriately reprocessed in-room for subsequent use.
- Maintains procedural safety by managing supplies and equipment and ensures proper handling and safeguarding of tissue and specimen samples.
- Responsible for sharps and specimen safety; actively participates in time-outs and all safety protocols, consistently applying Zero Harm error prevention techniques.
- Practices strict infection prevention and high-level disinfection standards, including point-of-use cleaning; may assist with sterile processing of instruments and scopes per manufacturer guidelines.
- Operates specialized equipment and mobile towers proficiently in various procedural settings, including ICU and OR.
- Anticipates the needs of the provider, RN, and patient, demonstrating initiative and responsiveness within the scope of endoscopy technician practice.
- Prepares equipment and supplies urgently and efficiently for emergent procedures and assists with post-procedure room clean-up.

8. Completes all necessary forms and requests pertaining to the procedure.
9. Preps patient skin according to policy and procedure to ensure the best possible recording.
10. Removes holter monitor at scheduled time, completes necessary paper work and computer work.
11. Ability to access the computer system to retrieve and reproduce completed holter monitor exams.
12. Performs a variety of clerical duties coordinating patient testing demand with clerical responsibilities in order to ensure proper document flow and storage for ECG area of the Heart and Vascular Imaging Services Department.
13. Answers the ECG lab’s phones within five rings in a professional and courteous manner identifying self and unit at all times.
14. Type relevant information onto the ECG tracing and stress tests ensuring accuracy and exhibiting basic computer skills.
15. Files and retrieves ECG’s and related reports according to established guidelines.

Summary:
Assists licensed anesthesia provider with duties related to the care and monitoring of equipment.
Responsibilities:
Assists Anesthesiologist with the placement of the A-line / Central-line and maintaining sterility of the room.Floats to other departments as required, e.g., L&D, Cath Lab, MRI, etc., in performing the duties described herein.Assists anesthesia provider in the preparation of supplies and maintenance of equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before/during/after anesthesia.Cleans and sets up all types of anesthesia equipment.Provides daily maintenance of all equipment and troubleshoots all equipment malfunctions including, but not limited to: monitors, anesthesia machines, ultrasound equipment. Notifies ABM to initiate service/repair as appropriate.Processes laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, and glide scopes in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations.Performs other related duties as may be assigned.Maintains a sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies, ensuring stock is rotated to prevent expired supplies and to insure all equipment is functional.

Essential Functions:
- Collects and/or processes patient blood obtained by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture timely and accurate.
- Processes nonblood patient specimens in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Assists in specimen preparation, receipt, and transport of patient specimens.
- Performs patient registration.
- Provides phone support for patient care areas in a polite and supportive manner.
- Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems as needed to perform job duties.
- Trains new team members and/or students in the department including any standard work processes applicable to the work area.
- Receives lab orders from providers, prepares necessary documentation, and performs all routine laboratory tests.
- Maintains necessary documentation for all tests according to standards and labeling all specimens following set standards. Maintains knowledge of specimen collection devices and tubes.
- Maintains equipment, keeps area clean, stocks supplies and keeps work space organized.
- Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
- Performs minor laboratory procedures accurately, precisely, and efficiently under minimal supervision including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunology.
- Perform phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture following established procedures in accordance with age specific considerations of patients. Observes strict principles of antisepsis to prevent infection of patient and contamination of specimens.
- Receives and collects urine specimens to perform all routine tests.
- Performs specimen preparation for all procedures/tests.
- Maintains supplies inventory communicating needs to supervisor.
- Reports varying in-house test results in addition to all abnormal findings to clinical staff.
- Complies with all policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
- Follows general safety procedures and utilizes PPE appropriately.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification in phlebotomy preferred for facilities where phlebotomy is an assigned duty.
