Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies.
- Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
- Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
- Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
- Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
- Acts as a preceptor new employees.
- Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.

- Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.

- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressings.
- Compiles preliminary histories on new patients.
- Records new problems, including all current medications, on return patients on EMR charting.
- Scribes in electronic medical record as dictated by physician.
- Tests visual acuity, near and distant, and intraocular pressures.
- Administers dilating agents for ophthalmic fundus examination upon successful completion of ophthalmic pharmacology exam.
- Escorts patients to waiting area.
- Performs ophthalmic testing, visual field testing, air tension testing, color vision testing, color sensitivity testing, automatic refractors, Retinomax, Keratometry, lensometry, Intraocular lens measurements, pachymetry, optical coherencetomography testing, photographic imaging and corneal topography.
- Assists physician with minor clinic surgery, special procedures, ophthalmic lavage, and preoperative preparation of patients.
- Provides postoperative instructions when indicated.
- Assists with and sets up laser treatments, including Argon, Krypton, and YAG lasers, ultrasound testing and cryopexy surgery.
- Performs ultrasound for measuring intraocular lens.
- Completes calculations of findings and obtains Keratometer readings.

Maintains strict aseptic technique and a safe environment for patients and staff.

Sets up cleaning room to perform activities. According to established instructions and aseptic techniques, performs high-level disinfection to clean and disinfect endoscopes and accessories. Performs basic maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting minor problems as appropriate, referring more complex repairs to the appropriate internal/external sources.
Tests disinfecting solutions daily to ensure effectiveness; adds or changes solutions as necessary.
Prepare and maintain equipment information for regulatory readiness
Assists in obtaining vital signs, point-of-care testing, ambulation, positioning of patients, and pre/post procedure care according to department procedure.
Cleans and prepares room between cases and after the last case; restocks as needed. Cleans and prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization. Maintains cleanliness of work area, including ensuring refrigerator is maintained clean and free from spills.
Assists in the transport of patients to and from Endoscopy.
Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department policy and procedure.
Assists in the overall function of the Endoscopy unit under the direction of the Staff Nurse.
Ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Prepares and maintains records and reports related to activities including equipment use for tracking, equipment sent for repair and sterilization; solution testing/changing, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:/br
High school diploma or equivalent. Current certification in Basic Life Support required. Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) Program also preferred. SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Specialist, Manager, or Director performs various complex clinical laboratory tests in one or more of the laboratory sections of the Pathology Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives specimens, confirms patient's identification, validates the appropriateness of physician's orders and labels, exercising care to avoid contamination of specimen.
Prepares and determines suitability of solutions, reagents and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures; confirming expiration dates. Datesnitials reagents and QC materials appropriately once opened.
Follows established departmental procedures, performs complex clinical tests using a variety of methodologies including EIA, IFA, Chemiluminesence, RIA, Electrophoresis, Immunoassay and Colorimetry.

Performs quality control checks on equipment and reagents, records values and uses results to identify potential problems.
Performs new tests and procedures during developmental stages and makes recommendations for modification and establishment of new tests and procedures.
Monitors, sets up and calibrates equipment, troubleshoots operational problems and performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs involving the manufacturer's Hot Line as needed.
Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, work benches, etc.
Helps to maintain inventory control in the lab, to include stocking of supplies to maintain laboratory readiness.
Participates in quality Assurance and Improvement programs, as needed
Maintains RI State CLS License, requiring a minimum of 15 hours/year in continuing education, and current knowledge of clinical laboratory theories and technologies.
Complies with all QA, Safety, Infection Control, and HIPAA guidelines in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a lab science such as chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or closely related field or equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA standards.
CREDENTIALS:
National certification by ASCP or equivalent in any of the offered categories such as Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, or any other recognized categorical certifications.

Eligible for national certification with laboratory training including completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS

Previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist as defined by CLIA standards for testing personnel.

Summary:
Under general supervision, understands and provides technical knowledge and the ability to test, repair and maintain mid-level/complex medical devices. Equipment also includes electronic test equipment and various types of medical equipment. Testing will be done in our facility and will involve staff interaction. Supports and maintains Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) safe Environment of Care.
Responsibilities:
Provide training and mentoring to Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) I staff.Serve as project manager for low complexity projects.Maintains appropriate equipment inventories and equipment sterilization.Thoroughly documents preventive maintenance and equipment repairs into the CMMS system in a timely and consistent manner. Analyzes data and processes for opportunities for improvement. Works in cross departmental teams to identify opportunities for improvement in practice and policy.Writes, reviews, and executes testing procedures on medical devices, ensuring compliance to codes and following manufacturer’s instructions.Repairs and maintains mid-level/complex medical devices by adjusting, calibrating, testing and documenting equipment performance.

Under the direction of the sterile processing leadership Team, an SPD Technician I will decontaminate, inspect, assemble, high-level disinfect (HLD), sterilize, store, and distribute instruments, devices, and medical equipment throughout the UMass Memorial Medical Center, along with other associated tasks. I. Major Responsibilities:

i. Collects, receives, and records soiled instrumentation, equipment, and devices for the decontamination process and associated tasks as outlined by the established policies and processes, guided by industry regulations and recommendations, and manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFUs).
ii. Utilizes equipment, tools, solutions, and personal protective equipment in a prescribed manner while following universal safety precautions.
iii. Maintains a clean, safe and organized workspace.
iv. Other associated tasks.
2. Inspection & Assembly
i. Inspects for cleanliness and performs function testing of instrumentation, equipment, and devices.
ii. Assembles, packages, and records instrumentation, equipment, and devices following the established procedure for each.
iii. Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace.
iv. Other associated tasks.
3. High-Level Disinfection and Sterilization:
i. Records and routes instrumentation, equipment, and devices for proper sterilization or high-level disinfection (HLD) as identified and outlined by manufacturer’s IFUs.

iii. Performs, monitors and records routine safety and efficacy testing of associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and industry standards.

4. Sterile Storage
i. Ensures proper inventory, rotation and distribution of instrumentation, equipment, and carts as observed by supervisors.

III. Position Qualifications:
