Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Leadership Team, an SPD Tech I will perform decontamination, inspection/assembly, high level disinfection(HLD)/sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments, devices and medical equipment throughout the UMass Network, along with other associated tasks, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process while maintaining a clean, safe and organized workspace.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Decontamination
a. Collects, receives and records soiled instruments/equipment/devices for decontamination process and associated tasks as outlined by established policy/process, guided by industry regulations/recommendations and manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU).
b. Utilizes equipment, tools, solutions and personal protective equipment in a prescribed manner while following universal safety precautions.
c. Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
2. Inspection/Assembly
a. Inspects for cleanliness and proper functioning, assembles, packages and records instruments/devices and equipment following the established procedure for each.
b. Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
3. Sterilization/High Level Disinfection (HLD)
a. Records and routes instruments/equipment/devices for proper sterilization or HLD as identified and outlined by manufacturer’s IFU and performs identified process/cycle with appropriate equipment.
b. Performs, monitors and records routine safety/efficacy testing of associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and industry standards.
c. Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
4. Sterile Storage
a. Ensures proper inventory, rotation and distribution of instruments, devices, equipment, supplies and carts as observed by supervisors.
b. Assemble and distribute instruments and supplies according needs of end user.
c. Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of, or enrollment in an accredited Central Sterile Processing Technician program.
3. Certification is required within one year of employment. Failure to obtain certification within one year will result in termination from this position.
Preferred:
1. Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge of sterilization standards/procedures and associated terminology.
2. Proficiency with basic computer functions.

3. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
4. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Utilize bar code scanning technology, as provided, to capture electronic signatures and order delivery / receipt confirmation record. 3)Coordinate reviewing and obtaining all non-compliant product placed into any green bin within any assigned inventory location at a frequency assigned, or no less that once a week of a frequency is not assigned, transporting all such inventory back to General Stores. Enter all such product obtained from the green bins into the standardized on-line database in a timely manner. 4)Be responsible for returning all General Stores equipment used for Distribution to General Stores when such use is complete. 5)Coordinate product returns from assigned requisitioning locations back to the General Stores. Picking 1)Be responsible for picking a minimum of 100 lines per hour, achieving this benchmark within a period of time determined to be acceptable by the Supply Chain Leader, but at no time picking less than 60 lines per hour. NOTE: The lines per hour pick time is intended to be fully inclusive of all the complete replenishment to the respective point-of-use location, thereby taking into account pick time, travel time to the department, and replenishment time. Pick all orders requested by unit department by time basis unless directed by lead in shift. 2)Be responsible at all times for the accuracy of your respective inventory picks. POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of confidential electronic health records. The position performs a variety of HIMS functions, including one or more of the following: record completion, transcription coordination, document imaging, release of information, and/or providing services and information to physicians and staff. 4. Performs the document imaging function as required, including scanning, Quality Control and Validation, to ensure scanned images are uploaded into the correct electronic health record visit and meet minimum productivity standards as defined.
5. Perform current and retrospective review of scanned documents as needed through the certification process in an effort to maintain the integrity and completeness of the Electronic Medical Record and meet minimum productivity standards as defined.
6. Perform a variety of other support functions including assistance with basic transcription issues and requests, providing training for Dragon/voice recognition applications, assisting patients with completion of portal enrollment, performing merges and combines in the EHR, answering telephones, and other duties as assigned by HIMS leadership.
7. Works under regular supervision using defined processes. Conducts problem solving using a learned expertise in regulations and medical record requirements. Has assigned responsibility within a department or clinic. Customers are physicians and office staff, nursing and ancillary staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires the knowledge of health information practices and principles as normally demonstrated through completion of one or more years of post-high school education in medical records and information systems OR high school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge or one or more years of experience working with medical records and/or health information management.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats; requires ability to inspect, read, and analyze written material. Must be able to perform and work on multiple tasks and organize and prioritize work. Requires good judgment, initiative and problem-solving abilities, along with effective teamwork skills.
Requires strong technical skills in the use of software applications and databases. Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Is knowledgeable and proficient in accessing and utilizing all applicable EHR systems as well as other applications utilized by the HIMS department.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current enrollment in the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Program. A background in the use of medical terminology for the assigned area is preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

- Receives, triages, orders, labels and transports specimens for laboratory testing. Handles STAT samples expeditiously. Assists pathologist and/or other laboratory personnel with specimen grossing as needed.
