Job Description:
The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement. The Registered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion and more. These scientists act as technical experts to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting.

Essential Functions:
- Performing Laboratory Tests: Conducting a variety of tests on blood, tissue, and other body fluids to help diagnose medical conditions.
- Analyzing Test Results: Interpreting and analyzing test results to provide accurate and reliable data for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Operating and maintaining Laboratory equipment: Using and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring they are properly calibrated and functioning correctly.
- Quality control and Assurance: Implementing and monitoring quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Preparing samples: collecting, preparing, and handling biological samples following proper protocols to avoid contamination and degradation.
- Recording and Reporting Data: Accurately recording test results and preparing detailed reports for healthcare providers.
- Maintaining Laboratory Safety: Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe and sterile laboratory environment.

Qualifications:
Registered Medical Lab Scientist - $35.60-$54.93 based on experience
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology science or chemical, physical, biological, or equivalent. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Applicants with chemical, physical, biological science or equivalent bachelor’s degree will be subject to education verification which may include transcript/credit evaluation by Laboratory Services Quality Assurance leadership, Required.
- OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role, Required.
- Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist ASCP certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job, Required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call, Required.
- Montana applicants must have state licensure or temporary state licensure, Required.
- Foreign applicants must submit a foreign transcript evaluation by an acceptable agency approved by Laboratory Quality Assurance, Required.
- Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers at sites that require certification, Required.
Registered Medical Lab Technician - $26.74-$41.28 based on experience
- Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of an accredited MLT program along with national certification, MLT (ASCP or approved accrediting agency), or equivalent (military) certification as determined by Manager. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified, Required.
- OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLT program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role, Required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights, Required.
- Montana Sites must have Montana State License: Can apply for temporary state license if waiting to sit for BOC., Required.
- Experience with laboratory information systems, Preferred.
- Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory, Preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Preferred.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person, Preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Under general supervision, prepares and processes flexible scopes for high level disinfection in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations and infection control standards. Transports patients to and from the Operating Room Suite, PACU, and Out-Patient Surgery; performs various basic care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patients.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High School Graduate or equivalent.
2. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.

1.Complete an on-the-job training program for specific tasks involving patient care and equipment.

1. Performs and/or assists with decontamination and distribution of flexible endoscopes and related items.
2. Transports surgical patients safely to and from nursing units or PACU as directed, assists with surgical room set up using Aseptic Technique
3. Maintains clinical scope equipment under the responsibility of perioperative services.
4. Assists with Post-OP tear down of surgery suite as needed and directed
5. Helps with OR/Endoscopy preparation: including but not limited to the gathering and opening of supplies, surgery supply orders from CS, collecting load cards, and etc.
6. Cleans, decontaminates, and processes reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, endoscope, and accessories according to manufacturer’s instructions (IFU’s). Follows departmental policies and procedures, infection control standards, and state/federal regulations. Discerns and distinguishes colors to identify bio burden on instruments, scopes, and equipment.
7. Restocks accurately work areas with scopes, accessories, and supplies. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of disinfectants and scope cleaning solutions utilized in work areas. Plans scope turn around needs according to schedule
8. Places or returns scopes, instrumentation, supplies, or equipment to designated storage locations. Maintains egress corridors.
9. Cleans and disinfects equipment, scope containers, and transport bins
10. Reports and records missing and/or damaged scopes/accessories to leadership team. Handles inventory including repairs and loaners
11. Transports linens, trash, and bio hazardous materials according to established policies wearing PPE and ensuring correct signage is in place prior to transport.
12. Performs designated daily, weekly, and/or monthly cleaning tasks including transport devices, storerooms, procedural rooms, computers, monitors, warmers, carts, etc.
13. Assists in routine unit operations as directed/needed to assure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. When needed, courteously answers telephone and pages in a timely manner, identifying self and unit at all times. Relays accurate telephone, visitor, patient, and healthcare provider messages to appropriate persons in a timely manner
14. Daily maintains work area in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion. Cleans work area prior to end of shift in preparation for the oncoming shift
15. Complies with all Hospital safety-related standards

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Manager, Medical Imaging, performs the routine clinical studies and the daily supportive work necessary to facilitate Nuclear Medicine patient studies and assists the Radiology physicians or Nuclear Cardiologists in the daily operations of the Nuclear Medicine Program. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Verifies images in PACS system for radiologist review. Properly bills patients for supplies. Ensures that the correct codes and the correct number of codes are applied to the patient’s account. Performs daily quality assurance on imaging and monitoring instruments according to department procedures. Notifies Nuclear Medicine Manager of any irregularities.Performs daily wipe tests on incoming radiopharmaceuticals; unpacks and logs incoming packages according to department procedures; prepares radiopharmaceutical kits for patient studies.Dispenses, calibrates and administers radioactive dosages while maintaining accurate records of clinical radiopharmaceutical acquisition usage. Orders daily radiopharmaceuticals. Practices good radiation safety as prescribed in Radiation Safety Manual.Performs proper disposal of decayed radioactive material and keeps accurate records as to its destination and activity.May be responsible for: informing Service Representative of equipment problems and following up on repairs, ordering department supplies, performing mandatory camera quality control tests, including but not limited to C.O.R., uniformity, resolution and sensitivity floods at their proper time intervals established by the department, assisting with department accreditation process.May perform quarterly linearity tests on the dose calibrator and other state-required tests.Performs weekly department area wipe tests.Transports patients to and from the department, as needed.Performs housekeeping duties in hot lab, procedure rooms and injection rooms, as needed.May be responsible for training new staff and students. Performs other related duties appropriate to the department's goals, as assigned by the Nuclear Medicine Manager as well as maintaining established hospital/department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Maintains level of knowledge of and expertise in the professional disciplines and educational methodologies by continuing professional development and participating in ongoing independent study, education-related professional activities and affiliations.Performs other duties, as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Completion of formal training in an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology. Maintains current license to practice in the State of Rhode Island. What you’ll do:
The Cardiac Monitor Tech provides surveillance of patient cardiac rhythm status as well as other telemetry indicators. Notifies physician and/ or registered nurse of any changes in the basic electrocardiographic pattern.
PATIENT CARE - Monitors multiple patient's continuous ECG, including measurement of PR interval, QRS duration, QT interval, heart rate and rhythm.
DOCUMENTATION - Obtains relevant patient background information and accurate documents in files.

Leadership Behaviors 1)Assists with adjustment in daily work assignments to compensate for fluctuation to work flow in absence of SPD supervisor. 2)Observes employee activities throughout the shift to ensure that established procedures are being followed for quality control. 3)Monitors the activities of employees and other personnel in SPD, on weekends and holidays having responsibility for an effective and efficient operation. 4)Notifies SPD Manager of any problems that occur during the shift. 5)Communicates ideas for revision of policy and/or procedure. 6)Assists in ensuring that equipment is properly functioning by communicating equipment malfunctions to manager and/or Engineering/Biomed and filling out appropriate work orders. 7)Acts as liaison between SPD and other departments to interpret problems that occur and communicate back to them in a courteous and professional manner. 8)Assists in maintaining SPD inventory by periodically ordering and receiving supplies and maintaining the appropriate paperwork. 9)Demonstrates positive role model and works independently to assure surgical patients needs are met. Decontamination of General and Specialty instruments and sets 1)Demonstrates independent function in ensuring that soiled instrumentation of any surgical specialty is decontaminated in a manner that prevents cross-contamination. 2)Wears proper protective attire when performing decontamination. 3)Follows established procedures to ensure decontamination completion and correct. 4)Sets up decontamination equipment for operation and ensures proper function and continuous work flow throughout the shift. 5)Maintains a neat and clean work area at all times. 6)Reports improper equipment operation to person in charge. 7)Handles infectious waste according to established hospital procedure. Progressive Care is a 16 bed unit, sometimes referred to as a “Step-Down Unit” for patients who are recovering from critical conditions but still require close monitoring and more frequent assessments than a standard unit can offer. Our Progressive Care is dedicated in providing patient and family centered care, while collaborating with the healthcare team, including physicians/providers, specialists, case management, respiratory therapists, and more to ensure each patient receives the most complete care. Our low nurse to patient ratio, multiple nurse aides, and out of staffing charge nurse ensures quality care, frequent monitoring, and exceptional customer service.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Successful completion of an approved dysrhythmia course during first week of hire and must pass dysrhythmia test during first week of orientation.

- Ensures continuous telemetry monitoring is established and documentation is maintained.
- Ensures monitoring equipment is functioning correctly.
- Ensures dysrhythmias or rhythm changes are communicated timely.
- Maintains knowledge and skills related to dysrhythmia monitoring.
- Participates in quality improvement projects.
- Supports provision of age/developmental appropriate care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the age groups served.
- Promotes efficient use of fiscal resources.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of various dysrhythmias
