Job Description:
The Surgical Technologist performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Surgical Technologist will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.
Schedule and Shift
This position is part time at 32 hours per week. The schedule for this position is Tuesday -Friday from 7AM - 3:30PMwith some variation. Call is required and will be one night per week and one weekend per month.
Essential Functions
- The Surgical Technologist has accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
- Maintains the sterile field and a safe environment.
- Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
- Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure.
- May assist with sterile processing.
- Will assist the surgeon(s) during the procedure but stays within the ORT scope of practice.
- Identifies emergency situations and exercise judgement when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies.
- On completion of the procedure, the tech will assist with room turnover, cleaning, and prepare for the next procedure.
- Has a pathway opportunity identified for advancement to ORT II, III and IV.

This position could be filled as a Surgical Tech II or Surgical Tech III depending on experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications (Level I)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program, or:Graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months (not eligible for Tech in Surgery exam), orTwo years of scrub tech experience in hospital/military surgical services within the last three years, orInternational training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Competent in basic procedures or one or more specialty areas/facility case mix.
- Able to take assigned call.
In addition to meeting Level I requirements, to qualify for a Level II/III role, you must also meet the following requirements:
Minimum Qualifications (Level II)
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Competent in Basic Procedures or 1 or more specialty areas and/or facility case mix
- Able to take assigned call
- Must be in good standing.
Minimum Qualifications (Level III)
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Competent in Basic Procedures and 2 or more specialty areas such as (Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants) and/or facility case mix.
- Able to take assigned call
- Must be in good standing
- Prior approval from the Surgical Services Director Council must be obtained before caregivers are moved into this role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Surgical Technologist with 1+ years of experience.
- Surgical Technologist with proficiency scrubbing into Ortho, Robotics, General Surgery, GYN, ENT, and Urology cases.
- Active National Certification as an OR Tech in Surgery or Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification is expected within the timeframe outlined below.
- Certification is required after hire as follows:Surgical Technologists who graduated from an accredited program must certify within one year of hire (may use either NBSTSA or NCCT certification).Surgical Technologists who have graduated from non-accredited programs or completed on-the-job or military training, need to certify as soon as possible. This can be done upon graduation or, according to the NCCT requirements, take beyond one year in order to meet worked hours (>6000) and case tracking requirements. Managers will need to meet with new hires and determine certification course, projected certification window, and track progress
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

3. Performs a full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging and/or treatment procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.
4. Plans and performs imaging procedures to produce medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
5. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies.
6. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification using identified communication mechanism to ensure the performance of radiology services.
7. Assesses patients’ needs related to comfort, hygiene and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
8. Performs as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy and procedure.

This position is responsible for independently implementing preventive maintenance, electrical safety and performance verification, bench and field service repairs on most medical electronic equipment. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Assists with and may coordinate equipment installations and project work involving patient care and medical communications technology, and clinical application networks. Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s recommendations.
2. Installs, repairs, and calibrates a wide variety of complex patient care equipment, medical communications equipment, PCs, and clinical applications networks to board/module level and occasionally component level through an understanding of electronics theory and applications and fundamentals of LAN networking. Reads detailed electronic schematics. Troubleshoots equipment, instrumentation, and systems utilizing applicable test equipment.
3. Performs scheduled/preventive maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and quality assurance on all patient care equipment in a timely manner consistent with regulatory standards. Monitors and oversees the work of external contractors/vendors engaged in repair work.
4. Provides customer relations and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible. Maintains communication with customers regarding the status of equipment repairs. Proactively solves technology issues when appropriate. Coordinates/schedules service (self, vendor and, when appropriate, other technicians) via management of customer expectations. Performs device investigations related to regulations and/or incident reporting.
5. Identifies the need for patient care equipment education and provides user (physician, nursing, other allied health staff) education on medical equipment.
6. Trains field technicians with less expertise in preventative maintenance and repair of medical equipment, and service delivery methods.
7. Documents all work performed, maintains parts, supplies, tools, test equipment and technical literature by completing service reports and supplemental productivity documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains an accurate and current parts inventory. Assists manager in maintaining a comprehensive library of technical literature.
8.This position has a service responsibility in several departments in multiple facilities: regionally and system wide. Customers are internal and external (including physicians, nurses, other hospital and HMO personnel, veterinary clinics, surgery centers, walk-in customers, etc.). This position receives direction from the Senior Biomedical Technician or the department leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a strong knowledge of electronics as normally obtained through the completion of an Associate’s degree in electronics or related field or equivalent training. Must have five years of progressively responsible work experience with applicable specialty equipment.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
Must be proficient at reading and analyzing schematic diagrams, including analog and digital circuits and possess a working knowledge of electrical and electronic fundamentals, including DC and AC circuits, semiconductor theory, digital circuit theory and microprocessor theory. Must also be proficient in Windows PC and network operating systems, PC repair, and have fundamental knowledge in Local Area Network configuration and troubleshooting. Must be knowledgeable in applicable accreditation and regulatory standards for the Environment of Care. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is preferred.

Job Description:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Technician I (ET I) supports basic, diagnostic and/or therapeutic endoscopic procedures at rural, community, large and trauma facilities. This entry-level role ensures safe and effective care during procedures such as Colonoscopy, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Tracheostomy/Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Placement, Enteroscopy, basic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT), Food Impaction Removal, Bravo Capsule Placement, and EndoFLIP. Interventions may include polypectomy, biopsy, dilation, cauterization, variceal banding, stent placement, overtube use, foreign body removal, and Hemospray application for GI bleeding.
The ET I may be required to take independent call and assist with urgent or emergent cases.
This role contributes to system-wide Surgical Services initiatives and actively participates in the Endoscopy Team Safety Plan.

This position demonstrates accountability for operating room readiness ensuring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies are complete and ready for a procedure prior to the preceding patient leaving the operating room. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instrumentation including the cleaning, decontamination, disassemble/reassemble, quality assurance, instrument identification, set assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation for PeriOp Services, hospital departments, and clinics.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides decontamination and sterile processing support to PeriOp Services, ED, ICU, hospital wide departments, clinics both on and off campus, and ambulatory surgery centers. Provides various levels of service for the management of sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable patient care supplies. Support may-or-may-not include, decontamination of surgical instruments, assembly/sterilization, sterile instrument storage, partial or complete case cart support, OR core tech support and high-level disinfection.
2. Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, and packaging of surgical instruments following established protocols, instructions for use (IFU) as well as performs required quality assurance, repairs, reassembly, documentation, sterility handling, and storage of specialized surgical instruments. Maintains required sterilization logs and quality assurance records relating to all equipment associated for the purpose of decontamination, HLD disinfection, and sterilization.
3. Ability to interpret the surgical schedule and medical terminology as it pertains to scheduled procedures requiring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies needed. Able to address and communicate special needs to minimize delays to surgery. Responds to emergent calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigation. Determines priority level of instrumentation requests and other hospital needs. Directs services in a competent and professional manner while assuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner.
4. Able to differentiate surgical instrumentation that is surgery owned, consignment/loaner, hospital depart, surgeon, ambulatory surgery center, and clinics both on and off campus. Completes necessary tracking of surgical instruments with a paper log sheet or computer process for instrumentation leaving the area. Reports needed replacement of surgical instruments to maintain the inventory and support readiness of sets.
5. Utilizes specialized equipment for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation according to the device and equipment manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy. Operates steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers of various sizes with the potential of operating ethylene oxide sterilizers where available. Operates automated surgical instrument washers, ultrasonics, flush pumps, and cart washers to include high-level disinfectors where supported.
6. Operates various quality assurance testing equipment associated to flexible endoscopic scopes, transesophageal ultrasound probes, and electro-surgical insulation defect detector for laparoscopic and energy provided surgical instrumentation. Utilizes heat detection devices to allow steam sterilized surgical instrumentation to be released for use without risking burns to staff and patients. Operates demagnetizers of stainless-steel instruments for ophthalmic and delicate cardiac surgical instrumentation for safe use on patients. Utilizes various borescope devices to inspect inner channels of lumened surgical instrumentation and flexible scopes.
7. Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices. Staff follow protocols for proper donning of personnel protective equipment (PPE) while completing the decontamination process referencing IFU’s supplied by the manufacturers.
8. Maintain flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed, maintain a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals, and departures, maintain professional appearance appropriate to position and function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Must have mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate and reassemble, problem solve incomplete trays and missing instrumentation and have effective organizational, communication and human relation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Complete national certification as an SPD Technician within two years of hire.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

What you’ll do:

Job Description:
The Surgical Technologist performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Surgical Technologist, will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.
Schedule and Shift
This position is full time at 40 hours per week. The schedule for this position is typically four-10s Monday-Friday, 7AM - 5:30PM with a rotating day off. There will be odd shift(1100-2300, 1900-0700, weekends) requirements once out of orientation. 3-6 shifts in an 8-week schedule period.
Essential Functions
- The Surgical Technologist has accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
- Maintains the sterile field and a safe environment.
- Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
- Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure.
- May assist with sterile processing.
- Will assist the surgeon(s) during the procedure but stays within the ORT scope of practice.

- Certification is required after hire as follows:Surgical Technologists who graduated from an accredited program must certify within one year of hire (may use either NBSTSA or NCCT certification).Surgical Technologists who have graduated from non-accredited programs or completed on-the-job or military training, need to certify as soon as possible. The Registered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion and more.
