Job Description:
Provides nutrition services to patients utilizing standardized guidelines. This position interacts with clinical caregivers, patients, and patient’s family members to explain the meal process and modify meal selections according to provider orders.
Posting Specifics
Pay Rate:Based on Experience
Shift Details: Part-time (20 hrs/wk) Primarily Afternoon /Evenings shifts. Sundays and Fridays off each week. Will be required to work at least 2 holidays per year.
Located at Intermountain Medical Center Culinary Services
Additional Details:This position is based in our call center environment and requires frequent interaction with patients to assist with menu selection and meal ordering. Responsibilities also include delivering meals to patient rooms and supporting food tray assembly and service line operations.
Qualifications
- Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Certification is required by first day of work (required ONLY in the states of Utah and Idaho). Remote and off-site caregivers are exempt.
- Demonstrated ability to work with modified diets (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service (preferred)
Essential Functions
- Takes patient meal selections and modifies them using system standards to meet provider orders.
- Checks trays for accuracy during meal assembly.
- Communicates clearly to both clinical and culinary caregivers.
- Collects and inputs nutrition screening information
- May complete calorie count and nutrition analysis as dictated by facility
- Utilizes a computer to run reports and take orders.
- Delivers and presents trays to patients using the standard process.
- Performs food preparation functions according to system standards (following standard recipe, assembling ingredients) for example, prepares salads, sandwiches, vegetables, and fruit.
- Follows standardized practices relating to Nutrition Services (e.g. dining experience, meal delivery and maintaining required stock levels)

Job Description:
Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the selected candidate will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.
Posting Specifics
- Level I Pay Range: $26.74 - $41.28/hour (depending on experience)
- Level II Pay Range: $29.43 - $45.39/hour (depending on experience)
- Level III Pay Range: $32.34 - $49.94/hour (depending on experience)
- Benefits Eligible: Yes (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), and many more benefits)
- Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. 4x10s. Monday - Friday, variable. 6:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. On-call shifts required, including weekends
- Location:Operating Room - St. Joseph Hospital (Denver, CO)
This position could be filled as a Surgical Tech II or Surgical Tech III depending on experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications (Level I)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program (ORT)
- Or graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months, but not currently eligible to sit for Tech in Surgery exam (NCCT)
- Or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years.
- Or hired for on-the-job training in a rural hospital
- Or International training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Competent in basic procedures or one or more specialty areas/facility case mix
- Able to take assigned call
- Colorado Surgical Technologists must be registered to practice as a Surgical Technologists with the State of Colorado.
In addition to meeting Level I requirements (above), to qualify for a Level II/III role, you must also meet the following requirements:

Qualifications:
Registered Medical Lab Scientist ($35.60-$54.93 based on experience)
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology science or chemical, physical, biological, or equivalent. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Applicants with chemical, physical, biological science or equivalent bachelor’s degree will be subject to education verification which may include transcript/credit evaluation by Laboratory Services Quality Assurance leadership, Required.
- OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role, Required.
- Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist ASCP certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job, Required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call, Required.
- Montana applicants must have state licensure or temporary state licensure, Required.

- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology science, or chemical, physical, biological, or equivalent. Education will be verified with transcript/credit evaluation by laboratory services quality assurance leadership. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified, required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call, Required.
- Bachelor’s degree within 30 days of hire. Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing, required.
- Montana applicants must have state licensure, required.

Physical Requirements:

1. Understands and practices the principles of aseptic technique. Ensures proper disposal of one-time use items. Sets up and spikes IV manufacturer made maintenance fluids (does not include patient specific compound bags from pharmacy). May set up disposable supplies for sterile anesthesia field.
2. Evaluates equipment needs of patients being transferred from critical care units to the OR and OR to Phase I Recovery. Assists with connection of the proper monitoring equipment for patients after the surgical procedure.
3. Ensures basic anesthesia equipment is available in each anesthetic location including emergency airway equipment (i.e.bags, working blades, etc.). Assists anesthesia providers with intubations and other procedures by acquiring supplies, instruments, and lines. Responsible for storage, use and safe handling of bulk and cylinder gases.
4. Assists with line placement by aiding inserter.
5. Checks for expiration dates on disposable supplies. Ensures malignant hyperthermia supplies are available in assigned location.
6. Cleans up a hazardous spill ensuring SDS sheets are followed. Completes required incident documentation.
7. Sets up disposable supplies and assists with all therapeutic pain management applications (Blocks, Bier Blocks, Stellate Ganglion Blocks, Epidural Blocks, Intercostal Blocks, Trigger Point Blocks, etc.).
8. Sets up suction devices. Switches out anesthesia machine tanks and recording paper when needed. Confirms anesthesia equipment is available for CRNA/resident/MD including confirming power/gas sources & electrical cords are in proper working order; notifying Biomed & hands-on provider of concerns related to equipment & patient safety (i.e. loose sockets); and ensuring anesthesia equipment is properly cleaned prior to patient care & appropriately connected to emergency power outlets.
9. Provides Anesthesia support during all emergency situations (difficult intubation, latex allergy patient episodes, cardiac crisis, malignant hyperthermia, etc.) and routine case turnover including anesthesia post case cleaning. At end of day terminally cleans and dusts anesthesia equipment and prepares for next day use.
10. Anticipates anesthesia requirements for scheduled and emergent procedures and has equipment set up without requests from the MD/CRNA. Assumes responsibility for answering anesthesia pages during workday.
11. Sets up IVs, fluid warmers, and pressure transducers. Acquires computer pumps.
12. Monitors the inventory of consumable supplies. Ensures that the anesthesia carts are stocked and the anesthesia area is clean and uncluttered. May transport mobile cart’s medication tray to and from Pharmacy. Reprocesses reusable supplies.
13. Drains and reconnects hoses. Checks and changes soda sorb and tubing’s. Ensures the rotation of stock and the proper storage of electrical equipment.
14. Informs appropriate persons of equipment issues and potential problems. Recognizes need for repair and initiates repair actions. Maintains an equipment repair log and equipment loaner book.
15. Stocks IV bins and utilizes anesthesia exchange carts to stock anesthesia blue bells.
16. May perform Point of Care testing within role scope of practice. Performs all quality controls for Point of Care testing devices.
17. Provides information for budget preparation regarding needed equipment and supplies. Provides input on cost-initiatives and facilitates those components relative to the Department of Anesthesia.
18. Selects and prepares difficult airway equipment and instruments according to patient needs.
19. Assists within scope of role/practice anesthesiologist, resident, or CRNA with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Performs, as needed, all core duties of anesthesia care assistant. May function in charge role as assigned.
20. Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) may have limited access to medications including transport of non-controlled substances and MH kit at the request of a licensed care provider.
21. Partnering with new hire and role modeling scope of practice, assists with an orientee’s duties’ training.

SUMMARY:
The Un-Registered Medical Technologist, under general supervision performs a wide variety of routine and specialized studies on blood, urine and body fluids samples as requisitioned by a physician, to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, following established standards and practices. Recognize instrument malfunction and out-of-control test results and take corrective action.
Assist in teaching and training of new employees. .

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Twelve months of clinical education/training in a school of Medical Technology or its equivalent.
Requires three months on-the-job training to become familiar with the hospital's policies and procedures and to become proficient in all phases of the job requirements.
EDUCATION:
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related science.
If degree is in a related science, requires at least 5 years (full time) acceptable clinical experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology within the last 10 years. At least two years must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist.
A Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology ASCP eligible, such as a recent graduate that is awaiting taking the MT test.
ASCP eligible or other acceptable Certification agency.
