Work requires knowledge of anesthesia practices and aseptic technique as well as the daily organization, stocking, set-up and cleaning of anesthesia equipment and supply environments used in patient care according to departmental and regulatory standards. The anesthesia technician performs duties under the supervision of the licensed anesthesia care providers in a variety of clinical settings including the set-up of IV manufacturer made maintenance fluids, fluid warmers and pressure transducers as well as performance of select Point of Care tests.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Associate degree from Anesthesiology Technology Program
OR High School Diploma or Equivalent AND two (2) years’ experience as an Anesthesia Care Assistant or nursing assistant and/or direct patient care.
2. Obtain Certification in BLS within 30 days of hire date.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Understands and practices the principles of aseptic technique. Ensures proper disposal of one-time use items. Sets up and spikes IV manufacturer made maintenance fluids (does not include patient specific compound bags from pharmacy). May set up disposable supplies for sterile anesthesia field.
2. Evaluates equipment needs of patients being transferred from critical care units to the OR and OR to Phase I Recovery. Assists with connection of the proper monitoring equipment for patients after the surgical procedure.
3. Ensures basic anesthesia equipment is available in each anesthetic location including emergency airway equipment (i.e.bags, working blades, etc.). Assists anesthesia providers with intubations and other procedures by acquiring supplies, instruments, and lines. Responsible for storage, use and safe handling of bulk and cylinder gases.
4. Assists with line placement by aiding inserter.
5. Checks for expiration dates on disposable supplies. Ensures malignant hyperthermia supplies are available in assigned location.
6. Cleans up a hazardous spill ensuring SDS sheets are followed. Completes required incident documentation.
7. Sets up disposable supplies and assists with all therapeutic pain management applications (Blocks, Bier Blocks, Stellate Ganglion Blocks, Epidural Blocks, Intercostal Blocks, Trigger Point Blocks, etc.).
8. Sets up suction devices. Switches out anesthesia machine tanks and recording paper when needed. Confirms anesthesia equipment is available for CRNA/resident/MD including confirming power/gas sources & electrical cords are in proper working order; notifying Biomed & hands-on provider of concerns related to equipment & patient safety (i.e. loose sockets); and ensuring anesthesia equipment is properly cleaned prior to patient care & appropriately connected to emergency power outlets.
9. Provides Anesthesia support during all emergency situations (difficult intubation, latex allergy patient episodes, cardiac crisis, malignant hyperthermia, etc.) and routine case turnover including anesthesia post case cleaning. At end of day terminally cleans and dusts anesthesia equipment and prepares for next day use.
10. Anticipates anesthesia requirements for scheduled and emergent procedures and has equipment set up without requests from the MD/CRNA. Assumes responsibility for answering anesthesia pages during workday.
11. Sets up IVs, fluid warmers, and pressure transducers. Acquires computer pumps.
12. Monitors the inventory of consumable supplies. Ensures that the anesthesia carts are stocked and the anesthesia area is clean and uncluttered. May transport mobile cart’s medication tray to and from Pharmacy. Reprocesses reusable supplies.
13. Drains and reconnects hoses. Checks and changes soda sorb and tubing’s. Ensures the rotation of stock and the proper storage of electrical equipment.
14. Informs appropriate persons of equipment issues and potential problems. Recognizes need for repair and initiates repair actions. Maintains an equipment repair log and equipment loaner book.
15. Stocks IV bins and utilizes anesthesia exchange carts to stock anesthesia blue bells.
16. May perform Point of Care testing within role scope of practice. Performs all quality controls for Point of Care testing devices.
17. Provides information for budget preparation regarding needed equipment and supplies. Provides input on cost-initiatives and facilitates those components relative to the Department of Anesthesia.
18. Selects and prepares difficult airway equipment and instruments according to patient needs.
19. Assists within scope of role/practice anesthesiologist, resident, or CRNA with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Performs, as needed, all core duties of anesthesia care assistant. May function in charge role as assigned.
20. Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) may have limited access to medications including transport of non-controlled substances and MH kit at the request of a licensed care provider.
21. Partnering with new hire and role modeling scope of practice, assists with an orientee’s duties’ training.

As a Lead Sterile Processing Technician, you will have a direct impact on the department and the growth of other techs. You will provide services in the decontamination and sterile processing areas whenever monitoring of sterilizers is needed. As the Sterile Processing Lead you will collaborate with OR staff to provide sterile instruments and equipment needed for operative procedures. You will be assisting with ongoing inventory of sterile supplies, equipment, schedule completion and communication for the department. In this role, you will perform duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision. As the Subject Matter Expect, you will have thorough knowledge of instrumentation, equipment and supplies.

This position supports leadership while performing as an integral part of OR team with additional job requirements and limited supervision. Demonstrates accountability for operating room readiness ensuring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies are complete and ready for a procedure prior to the preceding patient leaving the operating room. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instrumentation including the cleaning, decontamination, disassemble/reassembly, quality assurance, instrument identification, set assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation for PeriOp Services, hospital departments, and clinics.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs all duties as a departmental technician. In addition to assigned areas related to a specific service line or associated area with PeriOp/CSPD.
2. Applies judgment in determining the priority level of instrumentation and equipment requests for a specific specialty service line or shift. Recommends scheduling of procedures based on equipment and instrument needs to ensure effective patient flow.
3. Coordinates with department staff in assuring service line priorities are met and completed in a timely manner.
4. Possesses in-depth knowledge of service line/shift and precepts new employees at all levels regarding service line with respect to specific issues, troubleshooting and training to include Competency Achievement Plan signoff
5. Oversees assigned service line in a competent and professional manner. Investigates, proposes solutions, follows through with issues from various department staff such as sterile processing, OR, core support and hospital supported areas to ensure safe effective patient care. Confirms problem resolution and reports to leadership all related staff and service issues.
6.Responsible for reviewing current and future OR schedules, projects future equipment and instrument needs while ensuring instruments will be processed and ready to meet the daily OR schedule.
7. Inventories instrumentation and trays for service line and orders appropriate replacements or additional depending on usage. Collaborates with OR Manager on the number of tray/sets and instruments needed, making recommendations to inventory levels to meet changing demands.
8. Incumbent assists the Operating Room and other areas in the procurement of medical supplies, instruments, and sterile processing issues. Internal customers are other company staff, physicians, patients, visitors, managers, and executives. External customers are vendors, patients, visitors, other facilities, and non-company medical facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Requires national certification as a SPD Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
Requires proficiency level typically acquired with two years of sterile processing experience including knowledge of surgical instrumentation, patient related supplies, materials and equipment, aseptic and sterilization techniques. Must have mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate and reassemble. SUMMARY:
The Un-Registered Medical Technologist, under general supervision performs a wide variety of routine and specialized studies on blood, urine and body fluids samples as requisitioned by a physician, to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, following established standards and practices. EDUCATION:
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related science.
If degree is in a related science, requires at least 5 years (full time) acceptable clinical experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology within the last 10 years. At least two years must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist.
A Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology ASCP eligible, such as a recent graduate that is awaiting taking the MT test.
ASCP eligible or other acceptable Certification agency.

Is expert in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:
- Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory and makes recommendation to Manager.
- Evaluates new hires performance and conducts performance reviews on employees assigned.
- Schedules employees for various lab benches and shifts; reviews all work performed in area to ensure completeness and quality and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Discusses performance issues with employees and recommends disciplinary action to Manager.
- Follows established protocols to perform an all kinds of tests, including the most complex for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of highly complex or unusual test results.
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Develops new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
- Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
- May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
- Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Preferred:
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist.
Experience/Skills:

- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Performs a variety of administrative duties for patients in need of routine and/or urgent appointments, surgical and medical procedures, tests, and associated ancillary services in surgical patient care setting. Coordinates patient flow with the OR and procedural areas. Collaborates with the Resource Nurse to place patients according to needs including lines, vents and precautions. Alerts providers to emergent patient care needs.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. May call patients for the next day’s surgeries. Coordinates patient schedules with the O.R., Front Desk and/or Booking Office. May prepare patient charts, verifies information, and assembles records from Admitting and Pre-Admission Testing. May Prepare O.R. Pre-op paperwork, checklists, and validate patient documentation, bringing discrepancies to the attention of the nurse.
2. At the RN’s request, inquires with patients about needs for ancillary services including Financial Counseling, Social Services/ Case Manager. Arranges for ancillary services including Interpreter Services as needed.
3. Coordinates patient flow with the OR and procedural areas. Collaborates with the Resource Nurse to place patients according to needs including lines, vents and precautions. Arranges a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures with Labs and Radiology according to established guidelines. Prioritizes appointments in a manner that fosters optimum patient care, efficient utilization of physician’s services, as well as equipment and facilities.
4. Constantly maintains the Communication Board with patient name, nurse assigned, physician name and patient destination and bed status. Upon arrival records patient into log book and brings patient OR / procedural records to patient’s bedside. Reports patient’s needs to the Resource Nurse.
5. Handles urgent patient care calls according to department protocol. May answer patient call lights and assists patient by calling nurse to bedside with the needs of the patient or alerts nurse in case of emergency. May alert providers to emergent patient care symptoms and concerns. Connects the patient’s call to the provider or responds to the patient and takes messages as directed. Contacts the Anesthesia Department to notify Anesthesiologist on Duty of all emergency alerts, bedside needs and patient codes.
